Kermit F. Guiler

From the Zanesville Signal, 26 Oct 1957:
Kermit Guiler, 50, of 301 Luck avenue, was charged with improperly backing after
a Meadowgold Dairy truck he was driving backed into a car driven by Louis Kubick, 41,
of 898 Brighton boulevard on Adair avenue.

...and in the same paper three days later:
Kermit Guiler, 50, of 301 Luck avenue, forfeited $15 bond when he failed to appear to
answer a charge of improper backing on Adair avenue.

Obituary:
Kermit F. Guiler, 66, of 301 Luck avenue, a retired employee of Meadow Gold Dairy,
died unexpectedly at 12:55 p.m. Sunday in Good Samaritan Medical Center of an apparent
heart attack suffered earlier.
He was born Sept. 21 1906 in Caldwell, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Guiler. Survivors
include Mrs. Marie Guiler of Placentia, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Dorsella Calihan of
Placentia, Mrs. Kathleen Stemm of 2211 Linden avenue, and Mrs. Sharon Stemm of 90 Va
Sant street; two sons, Robert Patrick and Ferrold, both of the home, two sisters, Mrs. Vera
Hammath of Akron and Miss Jewell Guiler of Columbus; two brothers, Kenneth Guiler of
Caldwell and Mildred Guiler of Moorseville, Ind.; and six grandchildren.
Friends may call at Hillis Funeral Home 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Tuesday.

Obituary:
Services for Kermit F. Guiler, 66, of 301 Luck avenue, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday
at Hillis Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Mark E. Fulkerson. Burial will be in Memorial
Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Russell Stemm, Fred Stemm, Jerry Clark, Kennie Wartenbee, Joe Fitch
and Jay Andre.
Mr. Guiler died Sunday [5 Aug 1973] of an apparent heart attack. Friends may call at the
funeral home 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Administratrix of the estate of Kermit Guiler, deceased, late of Muskingum County, Ohio.
Dated this 21st day of August, 1973.

Kermit Guiler's death certificate indicates that he was divorced at the time of his death.

Guiler operates the Art Beauty Shop, South Fifth street, while Mr. Guiler is employed
in Cleveland.

Frederick Larry Nicklaus, two-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Nicklaus, 1925 Linden avenue, died shortly after two o'clock

Frederick Nicklaus' obituary appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on March 23, 1938. SERVICES THURSDAY FOR NICKLAUS BABY Funeral services for Larry Nicklaus two-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Nicklaus, 1925 Linden avenue, who died after 2 o'clock Tuesday morning at good Samaritan hospital following one month's illness from pneumonia, will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home of the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Louise Nicklaus, 1004 Lee street. Rev. Mr. Pohl will officiate and burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. The child attended the Sunday school class of the Trinity Lutheran church. Surviving besides the parents, are on sister, Kay Louise of the home; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Rupple, 564 Wayne avenue, and the paternal grandmother, at whose home funeral services will be held. The body was removed to the grandmother's home Tuesday afternoon from the Mader-Peoples funeral home.

James Louis Rupple

Dates of birth and death (from Social Security Death Index) have not been proven.

The following caption accompanied a photograph of James L. Rupple that appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on April 4, 1942: James L. Rupple, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Rupple of 1140 Keen street, now
serving in the U.S. Navy, has been promoted from the rank of first class seaman to
petty officer, with a rating of third class gunner's mate. He jhoined the navy on Aug.
21, 1940, his 21st birthday. He has two sisters, Mrs. Marie Guiler, of 602 Carey street,
and Mrs. William Nicklaus, of 1925 Linden avenue.


The following article appeared on pg 8 of the Zanesville Signal on 18 Mar 1944
James L. Rupple, formerly of Zanesville, has been promoted to first class petty
officer according to word received by his sister, Mrs. Kermit Guiler of East Cleveland,
also a former local resident. He enlisted in the navy Aug. 21 1949 on his 21st birthday.
It has been more than two years since he visited his family. Rupple is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Andrew Rupple of Cleveland.

The following wedding announcement appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on July 23, 1945: GUILER-ANDERSON (sic) RITES PERFORMED Mrs. Kermit Guiler, 1140 Keen street, has announced the marriage of her brother,
James L. Rupple, G.M. 1-c USN to Miss virginia K. Anderson, Tideaute, Pa. The
marriage was performed on May 31 in the Methodist parsonage in Washington, D.C. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew rupple, Cleveland, and a brother
of Mrs. William Nicklaus of Cleveland. The bride is the daughter of H. D. Anderson, Tideoute, Pa. Attending the couple were
Mrs. Kermit Guilder and Chief Frank McDonald, USN.


Clay Bryant Jr.

The following article appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on May 12, 1959: CLAY BRYANT, JR., SON OF THE MONTREAL ROYALS manager
of the International League, and a pitcher for Binghamton, N.Y., in the
Eastern League lst season, has decided to call it quits as far as the pro
game is concerned. Young Bryant refused to return to Binghamton this season and was
offered a pitching job in Georgia, but turned that down, too. Clay figures
he didn't move up fast enough in the game and now that he's the father
of two youngsters, he doesn't like the idea of traveling so much. He left last week for Florida to make his home with his family. Bryant
is expecting to take a job with Johnny Walker next fall. Walker is a former
Zanesville resident who operted Centre Cafe for many years after a brief
hitch in the major leagues. He is in the real estate and construction
business.


Kay Louise Nicklaus

The following caption accompanied a picture of 3-year-old Kay Nicklaus that appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on June 6, 1941: KAY NICKLAUS Three year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Nicklaus, of 1925
Linden avenue, has gone to Newark regularly for dancing lessons. She
will be presented in the opening number of Miss Joanne Abel's "Dancing
Parade of 1941" in the recreation center auditorium in Newark at 8:15
o'clock Friday evening.

The following engagement announcement accompanied a picture of the future bride that appeared in The Times Signal (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on December 18, 1955: MISS KAY LOUISE NICKLAUS and Clay Bryant, Jr. are betrothed. The
engagement is announced today by the bride-elect's parents, Mr. and Mrs.
William Nicklaus of 850 Grove avenue. Parents of the prospective bride-
groom are the senior Mr. and Mrs. clay Bryant, 3262 Dresden road. Miss Nicklaus is a senior at Zanesville high school. She is a member of
Trinity Lutheran church. Mr. Bryant is a graduate of Zanesville high school. He attended Georgia
Tech and Ohio State universities. The prospective bridegroom recently returned
from Korea where he served 16 months with the U. S. Army. Mr. Bryan is a
member of First Church of Christ. The wedding date has not been set.

daughter, Dorsella Marie, to Pvt. James Flynn of 845 Western avenue. His father, M.-Sgt.
Glenn Flynn, is stationed at Lakeland Air Force base, San Antonio, Texas.
Miss Guiler is a senior at Zanesville high school where she is a member of the capella
choir, the Senior Ifka group, and the Dramatics club.
Pvt. Flynn attended Zanesville high school and is stationed at Fort Knox, Ky.
