Bernetta A. Crum

Bernetta Crum Hamilton's obituary appeared in The Time Recorder (Zanesville,OH) newspaper on June 26, 1944.
DESPONDENT GIRL ENDS HER LIFE CALDWELL, O -- Mrs. Bernetta Crum Hamilton, 24, wife of
Lieut. James Hamilton of Caldwell died en route to Good Sam-
aritan hospital, Zanesville, after she had shot herself in the
forehead at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Crum, east of Caldwell, shortly after noon Saturday. Ill health and nervousness induced by worry, was the
attributed cause of the tragedy. Mrs. Hamilton was a member of St. Philomena Catholic
church of Caldwell and a graduate of Caldwell high school.
She had been employed in the local M & K store and later at
the Timken Roller Bearing Co. in Canton before becoming
ill several weeks ago. In addition to her husband Lieut Hamilton who is stationed
at Camp Bowie, Texas, she is survived by her parents, Mt. and
Mrs. Edward Crum; two brothers, Herbert Crum, who is with the
army in California, and Gilbert Crum, who is stationed in Massa-
chusetts, and one sister, Mrs. Raymond Kress of the home. Funeral services will be held at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning
from St. Philomena Catholic church with Rev. Fr. L. B. Preston
officiating. Burial will be in Olive cemetery. The body was
removed to the home Sunday evening from the William Estadt
funeral home in Caldwell.

ZANESVILLE MAN DIES IN AUTO CRASH
Ridge Ave Man Fatally Injured at Columbus
David McCarty Dies in Hospital; Auto Struck Pole
A Zanesville man was fatally injured New Years Day
near Columbus and seven other persons, were injured,
one critically, in traffic accidents in and near Zanesville
over the week-end.
Dead is David McCarty, 34 (sic), of 1317 Ridge avenue.
McCarty died at 9:50 o'clock last night at Grant hospital
at Columbus from injuries sustained shortly after 6 a.m.
when his auto rammed into a utility pole on Main street
and Hamilton road, just east of Whitehall.
State police reported that McCarty traveling east lost
control of his machine and rammed the utility pole on the
right side of the road. The car was demolished.
Hospital attaches reported that death was due to a brain
hemmorrage.
McCarty had been employed for the past three months as
a sales man and truck driver for the Gulf Distributing company
here. He had previously been employed at the Mosaic Tile
company.
He was a veteran of World War II having served with the
navy for more than three years. He was discharged in January
1946.
Surviving are his widow, Catherine, an employe in the office
of the Ohio Bell Telephone company here; his mother, Mrs.
Leonard Untied of Newark; a step-sister Ruth Ann Untied of
Newark and the maternal grandmother, Mrs. Gertrude Nico-
wonger, also of Newark.
The body was removed to the Mader-Peoples funeral home.

of Columbus.

Funeral Services for David McCarty, 24, of 1317 Ridge
ave, who died Sunday after he was injured in an auto crash,
will be held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon at Mader-Peoples
funeral home. Rev. Harold E. Doyle of the Christian Union
church in Newark will officiate, and burial will be in Memorial
park.

Crum-McCarty Wedding Was January 18
In a ceremony read Saturday, Jan 18, in St. Nicholas Cath-
olic church, Miss Katherine Elizabeth Crum and David A
McCarty were united in marriage. The bride is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Crum of Thornport and Mr. McCarty is
the son of Mrs. Leonard Untied of Newark. Miss Helen Kocks
of Columbus and Mr. Paul Crum, brother of the bride, attended
the couple.
The former Miss Crum chose a blue wool for her wedding
dress. She wore a hat in matching shade, black accesssories
and a corsage of white roses.
Miss Kocks was attired in a two-tone frock of aqua and
black Her accessories were black and she wore gardenias
in corsage.
The new Mrs. McCarty is a graduate of Summerfield high
school and attended Bliss Business college in Columbus.
She is employed in the district office of the Ohio Bell Telephone
company. Mr. McCarty was graduated from Lash high school
and served with the United States navy in World War II.
Following a brief honeymoon Mr. and Mrs. McCarty have
established their home at 1317 1/2 Ridge avenue.

Living at 132 Eighth St., Zanesville in 1966. According to the Zanesville Times Recorder (14 Jul 1973) a divorce petition was issued by Kathryn Wartenbe of 132 Eighth St. against Raymond Wartenbe of Stockport Route 2 for willful absence.

According to her death certificate, Kathryn Wartenbe was divorced at the time of her death. She was a college graduate.

John Edwin Crum

CRUM-CUNNINGHAM VOWS READ IN CARLISLE CHURCH Miss Linda Cunningham, daughter of Mrs. Gertrude
Passwaters of 722 Hall avenue and C.W. Cunningham
of Louisville, Ky., was married Dec. 27 to John Edwin
Crum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin L. Crum of Caldwell,
Route 1. The ceremony was performed in St. Michael's
Catholic church in Carlisle by Rev. Rudolph Wargo. Mrs. Carol Hayes was her sister's matron of honor,
and bridesmaids were Mrs Audrey Crum, cousin of the
bride, Miss Connie Wise and Mrs. Ann Crum. Roger
Crum was his brother;s best man. Ushers were Kenneth,
James, and Larry Crum, also brothers of the bridegroom. A reception was held in the church parish hall. The bride is a graduate of Summerfield High School
and is a junior in the conservatory of music at Capital
University, Columbus. Mr. Crum, also a graduate of Summerfield High School,
is a junior at Ohio University majoring in chemical engin-
eering. He is a member of the American Institute of Chemical
Engineers. The couple will live in Athens after Feb. 1.

According to his father's obituary, John Crum was living in Parkersburg, WV in 1989. Later, he lived in Washington (Wood Co.,) WV.
