Ida Florence Burkhart

Researcher Betty Hartley states that Ida Burkhart was first married to a man named Gallagher, but Ida's obituary does not mention him.

Obituary:
QUAKER CITY - Mrs. Ida F. Watson, 73 of Quaker City Route 3, died at 1 a.m. Monday (July 18, 1966) in Barnesville General Hospital where she had been a patient for a week. Mrs. Watson was born Aug. 5 1892 near Temperanceville, a daughter of Pete and Sarah Jeffers Burkhart and on Aug. 11 1914 was married to Everett Watson, who survives.
Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. C.H. Cater and Mrs. Laurence Gallaher both of Barnesville and Mrs. Clyde DeLong of Woodsfield; two brothers, Clem and Joseph Burkhart both of Barnesville, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The body was taken to Eberle Funeral Home here where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (EST) with Rev. Milford Carey officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery here.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 until 4 and 7 until 9 p.m. today.

Joseph Burkhart

At the time of the 1920 census, Joseph (25) and Elizabeht (21) Burkhart lived in a home owned by Joseph's mother and stepfather (Joseph Slevin) at 505 S. Chestnut St., Barnesville, Belmont County, Ohio. Joseph Burkhart was employed doing pick work in the coal mine.

Obituary (from Betty Hartley):
Joseph Burkhart, 94, of 56888 Temperanceville Highway, Barnesville, died
Sunday in Barnesville Hospital. He was born July 25, 1894 in Temperanceville,
a son of the late Peter and Sara Jeffries Burkhart.
He was a retired coal miner, a Protestant, and a veteran of World War I. He
was also a member of the Barnesville DAV.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clem Burkhart; four sisters, Ida Watson,
Victoria DeLong, Anna Cater, and Emma Gallagher Doudna.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Harper Burkhart; a daughter, Mrs. Homer
(Evelyn) Price of Temperanceville; several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home, Barnesville,
Tuesday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., where services will be hald at 1 p.m. Wednesday
with Rev. Larry Aslow officiating. Burial follows in Friends Cemetery, Quaker
City, with military graveside services.


Elizabeth V. Harper

Obituary (from Betty Hartley):
Elizabeth V. Burkhart, 90, 56888 Temperanceville Highway, Barnesville,
died Thursday morning in Barnesville Hospital. Whe was born October 13,
1898 at Columbus, daughter of the late Jay and Minnie Gates Harper.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; a brother; and three
sisters.Surviving is a daughter, Mrs. homer (Evelyn) Price of Temperanceville.
Friends will be received at the Campbell-Plumly Funeral Home, Barnesville,
2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, where services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday,
with the Rev. Larry Anslow officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery,
Quaker City.


William Clyde Slevin

In 1920, Clyde Slevin (31) and his wife Victoria (22) rented a home at 509 S. Chestnut St. in the 2nd Ward of Barnesville, Belmont County, Ohio. Living with them were their sons, Harry C. (4 yrs 4 mos) and Thaddeus (2 yrs 10 mos), and a 22 year old boarder named Emmet Seldius (?). Clyde was employed as a machine worker (?) in a coal mine.

The house next door to Clyde Slevin in the 1920 census was that of Joseph Slevin (42) and his wife Sarah (47). Sarah was the mother of Victoria Burkhart Slevin. The relationship between the two Slevin men is unknown at this time.

By 1930, the family had purchased the house at 513 S. Chestnut St., which was valued at $5,000. The household consisted of Clyde (42), his wife, Victoria (33), and sons Harry C. (14) and William T. (12). Both boys attended school. Clyde was a foreman in a coal mine.


Victoria Agnes Burkhart

The following article appeared in the Zanesville Signal on 11 June 1931:
ASKS $25,000 IN ALIENATION SUIT
St. Clairsville, Ohio. June 11 - Suite for $25,000 damages,
charging alienation of the affections of Mrs. William Slevin,
Temperanceville, was filed against Fred Fogle, that place, by
William Slevin, in common pleas court. The petition, filed by
Attorney O. B. Nary, charges that since 1929 the defendant has
been winning his wife away from him.

The Zanesville Signal newspaper reported that William and Victoria Slevin divorced a few months later.

Victoria Burkhart Slevin DeLong’s obituary appeared on page 6-B of the Zanesville Times Recorder on 23 Sep 1975:
Mrs. Clyde (Victoria) A. DeLong, 79, of Woodsfield died
at 11 p.m. Monday in Good Samaritan Medical Center.
She was born May 6, 1896, in Belmont County. She was
a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church.
Surviving are her husband, Clyde DeLong, of the home;
two sons, William T. Slevin of Akron and Harry C. of Cadiz;
two sisters, Mrs. Anna Cater and Mrs. Emma Doudna and
two brothers, Joe Burkhart and Clem Burkhart, all of Barnes-
ville; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are at Bauer and Turner funeral home here
are after 1 p.m. today and all day Thursday.
Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Sylvester Church.
Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery here. Rosary will be at 8
p.m. Thursday.


Victoria Agnes Burkhart

The following article appeared in the Zanesville Signal on 11 June 1931:
ASKS $25,000 IN ALIENATION SUIT
St. Clairsville, Ohio. June 11 - Suite for $25,000 damages,

Marjorie Clara Mahoney

Marjorie Clara Burkhart, 92, 128 Brill Street, Barnesville, died Tuesday,
January 5, 1992, in Barnesville Health Care Center. She was born October 12,
1900 in Belmont County, daughter of the late Edward and Ruth Anna Hull
Mahoney.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Clemance Burkhart;
three sons, Robert, Jackie, and William Jennings; one daughter, Mary Frances
Bishop; one brother, Ernest Mahoney; four sisters, May Stephens, Debra
DeHaven, Mary Murphy, and Dencie DeHaven.
Surviving are three sons, Charles, Thomas, and Joseph Burkhart all of
Barnesville; one daughter, Mrs. Francis (Sarah) Milhoan of Talmadge; 13
grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Services were held Friday from the Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral
Home with Rev. Gene Miller officiating. Burial was made in Assumption
Cemetery, Barnesville.


Robert Burkhart

Obituary (from Betty Hartley (Newspaper clipping dated April 1922)
The death of little Robert Burkhart, two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Clem Burkhart occurred at the home on South Chestnut Street Friday afternoon at three o'clock, from pneumonia.
Although permitted to be here but a short time to bless the lives of the fond parents, the baby had won a place in the love and affection, and in going, leaves them sad and lonely. Besides his parents, he is survived by one brother Jennings.
Funeral services were held at the Catholic Church, Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Wm. Robbin. Burial in the Catholic Cemetery.


Charles F. Burkhart

Charles Burkhart's obituary appeared in The Times Leader (Martins Ferry, Ohio) newspaper on May 20, 2007

Charles F. Burkhart, 84, Barnesville, Ohio died at his home. Born Jan. 20, 1923 in Barnesville, Ohio, the son of the late George Clem and Marjorie (Mahoney) Burkhart. A member of Main St. United Methodist Church, he was an Army Veteran of World War II and was retired from General Motors in Mansfield. He was preceded in death by by four brothers: Jennings, Robert, Joseph and Jackie Burkhart; and a sister, Mary Frances Bishop. He is survived by a brother, Thomas (Jean) Burkhart of Zanesville, Ohio; a sister, Sarah Milhoan of Tallmadge and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m., Tuesday at Campbell - Plumly - Milburn Funeral Home, 319 N. Chestnut St., Barnesville with Rev. Tom Detline officiating. Burial in Crestview Cemetery. Military Honors conducted by the Belmont County VFW Council. Memorials may be made to: Barnesville Depot Fund.


Jackie Lee Burkhart

Obituary (from Betty Hartley)
The death of Jackie Lee Burkhart, the three-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Burkhart, occurred Friday night at their home on South Chestnut Street due to intestinal flu. Owing to his weakened condition from a previous attack of pneumonia, he succumbed after a short illness. Besides his parents, he is survived by two sisters and four brothers.
Funeral service was held Monday morning in the Church of the Assumption, Rev. Father Michael Sullivan conducting the ritual. Burial was made in the Catholic Cemetery.
