Edith Olevia Burkhart

Obituary:
Edith Olevia Plesia of Westerville, OH, died Thursday,
April 1, 2004. Born on December 4, 1906 in Woodsfield, OH, the
daughter of the late Michael and Olevia Wahl Burkhart. Edith was
a graduate of Woodsfield High School, Class of 1924 and Bliss
Business College in Columbus, OH. She was a legal secretary at
the Henny and Henny Law Firm, a secretary at The Ohio State
University Museum and co-owner of Tri-Co Tractor Sales.
On June 16, 1951 she married John Plesia who survives
her with Edith’s brother, John Burkhart; sisters-in-law and brothers-
in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceded in
death by brothers, Arthur Burkhard, Francis Burkhardt and Michael
Burkhart. Edith was a loving and generous person.
Friends may call at the Moreland Funeral Home , 55 E.
Schrock Road, Westerville, Saturday 4-7 p.m. followed by a prayer
service at 7 p.m. Fr. Mike Nimocks officiating. Service will be held at
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Miltonsburg, OH Monday at
11 a.m., Fr. Tom Hamm and Fr. David Gaydosik, officiating, where
visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment St. John’s Cemetery,
Miltonsburg, OH. The family prefers contributions to St. Sylves-
ter’s Elementary School, 119 Wayne Street, Woodsfield, OH 43793.


Franz Joseph Burkhart

According to researcher Betty Hartley, Franz Joseph Burkhart came to the United States in 1854. He was a naturalized citizen.


Magdelena Nauer

The 1850 census lists the 5 year old female child in the household of George Nauer as "Polly." According to the 1910 census, Magdelene Burkhart gave birth to two children, both of whom were still living in 1910.


Jacob Brubach

At the time of the 1880 census, Jacob Brubaugh (32) and his wife Mary (30) lived on a farm in Center Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. Living with them were their sons Geo N. (9), Charles F. (7), John W. (5), and Andrew C. (1). The oldest three boys attended school. The census states that Jacob and Mary were natives of Bavaria. The children were all born in Ohio.

In 1900, Jacob Brubach (54) and his wife Mary (52) still lived on a farm in Center Twp. with their children Andrew G. (21), Sylvester (16), Wilfrid E. (14) and Jacob O. (10). (The online scanned copy of the census page is very dark and difficult to read.)

The following note appeared in The Zanesville Signal (page 7) on 15 Jan 1927:
WOODSFIELD - Jacob Brubach, highly respected resident,
celebrated his eighty-first birthday January 6. He spends part of his
time with his son, Sylvester, of this place, [and] is very active and
enjoys the best of health. His many friends wish for him many more
birthdays.

In 1930, 84 year old widower Jacob Brubach lived with the family of his son John on their farm in Malaga Twp., Monroe County, Ohio.

Sources conflict on place of birth. The 1880 census states that Jacob Brubach was born in Bavaria. Researcher Charlie Burkhart states that Jacob Brubach was born in Germany. The 1900 and 1930 census indicate he was born in Ohio, as does his death certificate.


Mary Anna Nauer

According to researcher Betty Hartley, Anna Maria Nauer Brubach had eight children. Sources conflict on date of birth:

Andrew G. Brubach

Andrew Brubach has not been found in the indexes for the 1910, 1920 or 1930 US Census.

Obituary from the Zanesville Signal (page 2) 3 May 1938:

TRAGIC DEATH
WOODSFIELD - Andrew Brubach, Conneautville, Pa.,
formerly of Woodsfield, was killed Friday night [29 Apr 1938]
when his car was struck by a freight train. He is survived by his
widow and five children; five brothers, S. S. and Charles Brubach,
Woodsfield; George, Lewisville; O. B., Summerfield and Ed.
Brubach, Canton.
Funeral services were held at Conneautville Monday.
Those attending the funeral were S. S. and Ben Brubach, George,
Lewisville, and O. B. Brubach and son, Clarence, of Summerfield.
The victim was a son of the late Jacob Brubach and
operated a blacksmith shop where the Mowder & Zerger garage
is now located on Sycamore street.


George Nauer Jr.

In 1900, George (45) and Maggie (38) Nauer owned a farm in Summit Twp., Monroe County, Ohio, where they lived with their children Josie D. (15), Hannah A. (11), and Janes C. (7). All three children attended school. The farm next door to the Nauers was owned by 61 year old widow Hannah Brister, a native of West Virginia. The relationship (if any) between Hannah Brister and Maggie Brister Nauer is not known at this time.

Margaret Brister

According to the 1900 census, both of Maggie's parents were born in Germany. Maggie had given birth to four children, three of whom were still living in 1900.

Margaret Nauer's typewritten death certificate gives her parents names as James C. Buster (birthplace unknown) and Hannah Himes (West Virginia). She had been a patient in the Athens State Hospital for almost a year at the time of her death.

No infant's birth and death is recorded in the Nauer Family Bible, according to researcher John Ogden. However, the 1900 census states that Margaret Brister Nauer had four children, one of whom died prior to 1900.


John Yontz

In 1880, farmer 26 year old farmer John Yontz lived in Seneca Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with his wife Hannah (24) and children George W. (2) and Katherine I. (5 mos). Everyone in the household was a native of Ohio, as were Hannah's parents. John's parents were German.

At the time of the 1920 census, John Yountz (64) and his wife Hannah (62) owned a home at 234 Second St. in Byesville in Jackson Twp., Guernsey County, Ohio. Living with them was their unmarried son, George (40). All were born in Ohio. John's parents were German, and Hannah's were from Alsace Lorraine, according to the census. John worked as a carpenter building homes.

The family lived in the same house when the 1930 census was taken. The only members of the household were John (74) and Hannah (72) Yontz. According to the census, both were born in Ohio to German parents. John worked as a carpenter doing odd jobs.

The obituary of John Yontz was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 29 Nov 1940:
YONTZ SERVICES THIS MORNING
BYESVILLE, O. - Funeral services will be conducted for John
Yontz Friday at 9 a.m. at the St. Benedict church by the pastor,
Rev. Father C. C. Crock, assisted by Rev. Father Soukup, Byes-
ville and Rev. Father Lawrence Riley, Dresden.
Burial will be made in Mt. Calvary cemetery near Cambridge.
The body was taken to Herlan funeral home and was removed
to the G. W. Yontz home Thursday.
Mr. Yontz, 85, retired carpenter, died Wednesday at 5 a.m. at
the home of his son, G. W. Yontz. He was a member of the St.
Benedict Catholic Church, Cambridge. His wife died nine years
ago.
He leaves the following children: G. W. and Frank Yontz, Byes-
ville, Edward Yontz, Summerfield, Fred Yontz, Caldwell, John and
Mrs. Belle Mueller, Wheeling, W. Va., and Mrs. Chirstina Herrick of
Proctor, W. Va. Eighteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren
survive.


Johanna Nauer

According to the 1900 census, Hannah Yontz had given birth to eight children, one of whom died prior to 1900. Both of Hannah's parents were natives of Germany.
