Philip Burkhart

According to "Genealogy and Biography - History of Allegheny County," Philip enlisted in April 1863, in Battery A. and served in the 1st VA. Artillery for 3 years.(during Civil War).

Around 1870 or 1871, Philip Burkhart moved his family from Ohio to McKees Rocks, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.

In 1900, Phillip Burkhart (53) and his wife Philomena (53) lived on Island Avenue in McKees Rocks. Living with them were their widowed daughter Clara Theiss (30), and their other children Frank (22), Herman (19), Agatha (17), and George (15). According to the census, Phillip was a native of Ohio born to German parents. Philomena and her parents were from Ohio, as was Clara. The other children were born in Pennsylvania. Eight of their ten children were still living in 1900. Phillip worked as a railroad machinist. Phillip's brothers Joseph and Adam were enumerted on the same page of the census.


Harmon M. Burkhart

In 1900, 19 year old Herman Burkhart lived with his parents and siblings in McKees Rocks, Allegheny Co., PA. He was employed as a painter.


Joseph Burkhart

At the time of the 1870 census, Joseph Burkhart lived with his parents and siblings in Woodsfield, Center Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. Joseph worked in his father's shoe shop.

In 1900, 47 year old widower Joseph Burkhart, a native of Ohio, lived with four children in a mortgaged home at 66 Bogmot (?) St. in McKees Rocks, Allegheny County, PA. The children in the home were Elizabeth (16), Edward (12), Winifred (9), and William (4). Edward and Winifred attended school. Elizabeth worked as a housekeeper for the family. Joseph was a teamster. Joseph's brother Phillip was enumerated on the same page of the 1900 census.


Charles Burkhart

Obituary (from Betty Hartley; exact source unknown):
Charles Burkhart, aged and prominent Marietta Street citizen,
died Saturday morning following an extended illness of complica-
tions of disease. Deceased ws one of the directors of the Monroe
County Fair Board for many years and ws widely known through-
out this secion of Ohio. He followed the oil business for several
years.
Surviving are his wife and the following children: Mrs. Ray Foraker
of Gary, Indiana; Prof. Walter Burkhart of Athens, Georgia; Miss
Elizabeth Burkhart of Akron, Clyde Burkhart of Bremen; Miss Freda
Bracy and Dr. A.R. Burkhart of Woodsfield.
Funeral services were conducted from the late home Monday after-
noon in charge of Rev. Otto C. Meyer of St.Paul's Evangelical Church,
the rites being attended by a large number. Burial was made in the Oak-
lawn Cemetery.

According to his death certificate, Charles Burkhart was a retired coal dealer.


Catherine Louise Lang

Obituary (from Betty Hartley; exact source unknown):

Mrs. Catherine Burkhart , aged 83 years, passed away at her home
on East Marietta Street, abvout 8:30 o'clock Friday morning, following
an extedned illness. She was the widow of Charles Burkhart who died
in 1929.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Freda Bracy of the home;
Dr. Raymond Burkhart of Woodsfield; Dr. Walter Burkhart of Athens,
GA; Clyde Burkhart of Somerset, Ohio; Mrs. Ray Foraker of Gary,
Indiana; and Mrs. W. H. Wilkinson of Jacksonville, Florida. One sister,
Charlotte Long of the home also survives together with many more dis-
tant relatives.
Mrs. Burkhrt was a member of St.Paul's Evangelical and Reformed
Church and a charter member of the Senior Guild of that church. She has
scores of friends by whom she will be sadly missed.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the late
home in charge of her pastor, Rev. John H. Hose and burial was made in
Oaklawn Cemetery.


Clem Burkhart

In 1900, 20 year old Clem Burkhart (Oct 1879) lived with his widowed mother and two older sisters on the family farm in Sunsbury Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio.

Clem Burkhart has not been found in the 1910 census.

On 12 Sep 1918, 38 year old Clem Burkhart of 1016 7th St. NE (?), Canton, Ohio registered for the US military draft. He stated that he ws born on October 3rd, 1878. He was employed as a lightrimmer (?) for the Central Power Co. in Canton. Clem was described as being stout with blue eyes and brown hair.

In 1920, Clem Burkhart (41) lived in Canton, Stark Co., Ohio with his wife Edna (41) and children Laura (13) and James (7). Both children attended school. Everyone in the home was a native of Ohio, as were Edna's parents. Clem's parents were from Baden, Germany. Clem worked as a "trouble man" for a power company.

Death certificate for Clem Burkhart that states that he died on 30 Jul 1928 in Perry Twp., Stark Co., Ohio, that his wife’s name was Edna, and his parents were Sebastian Burkhart and Catherine December.

Clem died in a work-related accident. He working as a lineman on a electric light pole at Canton and Bolivar Rd. in Perry Twp. for the Ohio Power Company. While on the pole, 49 year old Clem received an electrical shock, causing him to release his hold and fall, resulting in a broken neck.


Edna Rebecca Jackson

In 1930, 51 year old widow Edna Burkhart owned a home worth $4000 at 1108 14th St. NE in Canton, Ohio. Living with her was her son James (17), married daughter Edna Trillard (23), her husband Emil L. Trillard (25) and their son Emil Jr. (4). Everyone in the house was a native of Ohio, as were their parents. The Burkhart's owned a radio set. James was a laborer at a steel mill and Emil worked as a carpenter for the railroad.

Alphonus George Wahl

Ally Wahl served in World War I. Service details are as follows:

According to his draft registration card (filled out on 5 Jun 1918), Ally George Wahl had gray eyes and dark hair. He worked on his father's farm in Newark, Ohio.

In 1930, Ally G. Wahl (33) rented a home in Newark, Licking Co., Ohio. He lived with his wife Hilda (24) and their son, John (4). Ally was employed as a carpenter. He was a veteran of the World War.


Hilda Rauch

According to the 1930 census, Hilda and her parents were born in Ohio.


John G. Wahl

Dates of birth and death (from Social Security Death Index) have not been confirmed. John Wahl was a widower at the time of his death. The names of his wife and children (if any) are not known. He was a veteran of the US Navy.


Nicholas James Schumacher

On 5 Jan 1917, 24 year old unmarried self-employed farmer Nicholas J. Schumacher of R2, Louisville, Stark County, Ohio registered for the US military draft. He stated that he was born on Sept. 1, 1892 in Woodsfield, O. Nicholas was described as being tall and slender with blue eyes and dark hair.

At the time of the 1930 census, N. J. Schumacher (37) and his wife Stella (32) owned a farm in Louisville, Nimishillen Twp., Stark County, Ohio. Living with them were their children James (5), Loretta (3), and Norbert (1). Everyone in the household was a native of Ohio. Nicholas' older brother Simon lived next door.


Raymond Joseph Wahl

According to Raymond Wahl's draft registration card, he was short with grey eyes and black hair. He worked on his father's farm in Newark, Licking County, Ohio.
