In 1920, Alfred Lorey (20) lived with his parents and two of his brothers on the family farm in Manhattan Twp., Riley County, Kansas. Sherman was employed as a laborer for a paving company.
In 1930, George C. Lorey (27) and his wife Barbara A. (20) rented part of a two-family house for $17 a month in Manhattan, Riley Co, Kansas. George worked as a driver for a transfer company. There were no children in the household.
According to the 1930 census, Barbara's mother was a native of Illinois. The census states only that her father was born in the United States.
