Jacob Lang

BEVERLY - Jacob L. “Jake” Lang, 72, of Beverly, died at 12:01 a.m. Monday (Sept. 10, 2007) at Muskingum Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation, Beverly.

He was born July 25, 1935, in Lowell, a son of Charles H. and Frances A. Brooker Lang. He was a salesman for 33 years at Wieser and Cawley Furniture Store, retiring in 1997. He had also worked at Marietta Concrete. He graduated from Lowell High School. He had served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus.

On April 26, 1997, he married Elaine Zwick Lang, who survives.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Russell Lang of Buckhannon, W.Va., and Raymond Lang of Denver, Colo.; one daughter, Deborah DeShelter and husband, Dean, of Seattle, Wash.; two grandchildren, Ani and Max DeShelter; eight stepchildren, Mike Kern and wife, Neva, of Marietta, Doug Kern of Waterford, Diane Zimmerman and husband, Dan, of Lowell, Marilyn Pottmeyer and husband, Eric, of Fleming, Tom Kern and wife, Connie, of Waterford, Dan Kern and wife, Cindy, of Waterford, Beth Branham and husband, Bay, and Cindy Hart and husband, Scott, of Waterford; 14 stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandson; one brother, Martin Lang and wife, Diana, of Barlow; four sisters, Lucille Henry and husband, Gale, of Waterford, Linda Baumgard and husband, Melvin, of Marietta, Bernadette Huck and husband, Gene, of Pataskala, and Norma Miller and husband, Gerald, of Waterford; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Helen Wilson, Irene Barton, and Jane Callihan; and one brother, Walter Lang.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Bernard Catholic Church, Beverly, with Monsignor Robert Kawa officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held at 8:30 p.m. today. Visitation is from 2 to 9 p.m. today at McCurdy Funeral Home, Beverly.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
