Charles Edward Durant Jr.

The following caption accompanied a photo of Charles E. Durant, Jr. in the Zanesville Signal on 10 Aug 1952:
Charles Edward, Jr. is the seven month old son of
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Durant, Sr. of Dietz lane. Mr. and
Mrs. George N. Baker of Glendale avenue and Mr.
and Mrs. Ed. P. Durant of Lawhead lane are grand-
parents.

Charles and Jane Durant moved to South Carolina in 1974. Charles received a Master's degree in social work from the University of South Carolina in 1976. He attended Xavier University in Cincinnati, where he studied health and hospital administration.


Jane Marie Joseph

MR. DURANT, MISS JOSEPH WED SATURDAY AFTERNOON
Double ring marriage vows were exchanged Saturday by Jane Marie Joseph, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Joseph of 1522 Sharon avenue, and Charles Edward Durant, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Edward Durant of Lawhead lane. The ceremony took place at 1 p.m. in St. Nicholas Catholic church.
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a floor length gown of silk organza embroidered with floral motif on the full skirt. The fitted bodice, accented with eyelet lace, was designed with high neckline and short puffed sleeves cuffed in lace.
Matching eyelet lace formed the headpiece from which her cathedral length veil was arranged. She carried a cascade of white Sweetheart roses, white daisies, purple statice and baby’s breath.
The bride, assisted by her grandmother, Mrs. Carl Arnold, designed and made the dresses worn by her maid of honor, Miss Sandy Hill, and the bridesmaids, Miss Carol Joseph, and Miss Ellen Joseph, her sisters; Miss Kathy Baker, cousin of the bridegroom, and Miss Debbie Longstreth. Miss Beth Ann Joseph, also a sister of the bride, was a junior bridesmaid.
The attendants’ dresses were of lavender crepe with fitted bodice, scoop neckline and full skirt with alternating lavender and purple ruffles above the hemline. The junior bridesmaid’s dress, identical in style, was of purple crepe with alternating ruffles. Each attendant carried a white basket of mixed garden flowers and wore a halo of daisies and baby’s breath with streamers matching her dress.
Steve Durant served as best man for his brother. Ushers were Jeff Hire of Newark, Ron Gildow, Herb Baker, cousin of the bridegroom; David Joseph, brother of the bride, and John Baker, the bridegroom’s uncle.
The wedding reception was held at the Maria Adornetto Restaurant. Assistants were Mrs. William Joseph, Mrs. Daniel Joseph, sisters-in-law of the bride, Mrs. Edgar Hill, Miss Pam Cummings of Cambridge, and the bridegroom’s sisters, Misses Diane and Carol Durant.
After a trip to the Smoky Mountains, Mr. and Mrs. Durant will live at 919½ Nancy avenue.
The former Miss Joseph and her husband are graduates of Bishop Rosecrans High School and members of the church in which they were married. A graduate of Nationwide Beauty Academy at Columbus, the bride is employed as a beautician at Lily-Ann’s on North Fourth street.
Mr. Durant is a senior at Mount Union College, majoring in sociology. He is a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.


Herbert William Baker Jr.

Herbert William Baker is the five year old son of Mr.
and Mrs. Herbert Baker of 1225 Eastman street. Grand-
parents are Mr. and Mrs. George N. Baker of Glendale
avenue and Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Carlisle of Columbus.
Great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Becker and
Mrs. Lena Carlisle of Columbus.


Jacob William Baker

Obituary:
ZANESVILLE - Jacob William Baker, 18, of Zanesville,
went home to be with the Lord at 9:21 p.m. Monday, July
18, 2005, at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital following
a sudden illness.
Jacob was born Oct. 24, 1986, in Zanesville, to Carl
and Lezlee (Freshly) Baker. He was currently employed
at the West Pike McDonald's and was a 10-year member
of the Little Milkers 4-H Club, where he was serving as pres-
ident. Jacob had a strong faith and was a faithful member
of Finley United Methodist Church. A 2005 graduate of
West Muskingum High School, where he sang in the
Concert Choir, he would have attended Ohio University-
Zanesville this fall on an academic scholarship.
Jacob's first loves were his family and his faith. He
also enjoyed NASCAR, roller coasters and waterfowl,
which he raised and exhibited with his father.
Jacob is survived by his loving parents of Zanesville;
a sister, Mallory Baker of the home; his maternal grand-
parents, the Rev. Orlo and Carol Freshly of Zanesville;
his paternal grandmother, Ann Baker of Zanesville; and
aunts and uncles, Lexa Freshly of Zanesville, Lindsay
(Jennifer) Freshly of Westerville, Lora (Brent) Sidwell
of Zanesville, Herbert Baker Jr. of Zanesville, Beatrice
(Brian) Hicks of Zanesville, Blaise (Peggy) Baker of
Columbus, Elaine (Robert) Hartman of Canal Winches-
ter and Sharon (Vince) Wollenberg of Newark.
He is also survived by cousins, Tristan, Gabrielle
and Sabrina Freshly of Westerville, Alex, Douglas,
Bryce and Connor Sidwell of Zanesville, Caleb Baker
of Zanesville, Natasha (John Lent) Baker of Zanesville,
Ashley Hoffman of Los Angeles, Sean Hicks of Zanes-
ville, Nicholas and Alex Baker of Columbus, Elizabeth,
Catherine and Robert Jr. Hartman of Canal Winchester
and Caroline and Billy Wollenberg of Newark.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather,
Herbert W. Baker Sr.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
today at The Snouffer Funeral Home at 1150 W. Military
Road. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July
22, 2005, in The Snouffer Chapel with the Rev. Chuck
Norris officiating. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial
Park Cemetery.

Helen Jane Baker

HELEN BAKER ENGAGED TO R.T. NORRIS
Mr. and Mrs. Bernard J. Baker of Newark are announcing
the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter,
Helen Jane. On Saturday, June 6, she will become the bride
of Raymond Timothy Nofris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond
W. Norris of 479 East Lawndale acres.
The ceremony will be read in St. Frances de Sales Catholic
Church in Newark.
The bride elect, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. George
N. Baker of 545 Glendale avenue is a graduate of Newark
Catholic high school. She is employed by Nationwide Insur-
ance Company in Columbus.
Her fiance is a graduate of Rosecrans High School and
is attending the Columbus School of Automation. He is em-
ployed by Nickel Plate Railroad.

Miss Helen Jane Baker plighted her troth to Raymond
Timothy Norris in a double ring ceremony in St. Francis de
Sales Church. The Rev. Fr. William D. Huber officiated.
Gold altar vases were filled with arrangements of white
stock, pompoms and Fuji chrysanthemums. Family pews
were indicated by white satin bows.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard J. Baker
Sr., 300 W. National Dr. and Mr. Norris is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Raymond W. Norris, East Lawndale Acres, Zanesville.
Preceding the ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Saturday religious
music was presented in a short program by the organist and
choir who sang the mass.
Miss Nancy Wise served as the maid of honor and brides-
maids were Misses Holly Kempf, Canton, cousin of the bride,
Barbara Clayton, Ann McNally, Zanesville; Mrs. Renny L.
Richards and Mrs. Ralph R. Williams, Columbus.
Flower girls were Susanna Abbot, niece of the bride and
Raye Ellen Norris, sister of the bridegroom.
A brother of the bridegroom, Walter K. Norris, acted as best
man and the ushers were Daniel Rapol, Donald Larson, Thomas
Killeen, John Clark, cousin of the bridegroom, and Thomas
Montgomery.
Given in marriage by her father, Bernard J. Baker Sr., the
bride wore a gown of white silk organza over taffeta and tulle.
The fitted bodice had a scoop neckline of Alencon lace re-
embroidered with sequins and seed pearls. Sleeves were
long and tapered. Medallions of the lace were used on the
front panel of the skirt which had unpressed pleats on the sides
and it fell into a chapel train. A material rose accented the
waistline in the back. She wore a veil of French illusion held
by a crown of matching lace and sequins and carried a
cascade of white Frenched carnations tied with white satin
ribbon in a lovers’ knot.
All the attendants wore frocks of peau de sole in the
different pastel colors. They were ballerina length sheaths,
have detachable overskirts and bracelet length sleeves. All
wore matching headpieces attached to theater veils and carried
cascades of white carnations, tied with satin ribbon, to match
their dresses.
The reception is being held for 400 guests in the B of LE
[Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers] Hall in Leonard Ave.,
where the Shellaires will play during the reception hours.
Assisting hostesses are Misses Patricia Murphy, Carole Haley,
Connie Baker, Carol Hansel, Ruth Lusetti, Mrs. Richard Darby,
Mrs. Carl Shipley and Mrs. Glenn Jordan.
For their wedding trip through northern Ohio the bride has
chosen a green and white print sheath and white accessories.
They will live in 423 Hudson Ave. after June 15.
The bride was graduated from Newark Catholic High School,
1961, and is employed by Nationwide Insurance Company.
The bridegroom is a graduate of Bishop Rosecrans High School,
Zanesville, 1961 and is attending Columbus School of Automation
while employed by the Independent Dairy Company.


Dyann Cecilia Knack

Vows were exchanged in a double ring ceremony in St. Francis de Sales Church at 10 a.m. Saturday by Miss Dyann Cecilia Knack and Bernard Baker Jr. The nuptial mass was celebrated by Msgr. Herman E. Mattingly.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Knack, Sharon Valley Rd., and Mr. Baker is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Baker Sr., 300 National Dr.
Gold altar vases were filled with arrangements of white gladioli, snapdragons and chrysanthemums. During the assembly of the guests the organist, Giancento Filipetto, gave a program.
Miss Helen J. Baker, sister of the bridegroom, was the maid of honor, and the bridesmaids were Misses Mary Ann Cunningham, Lois Shibler and Cheryl Iden. Miss Beverly Knack, sister of the bride, acted as junior bridesmaid.
The bridegroom asked his cousin, Robert J. Baker of Zanesville, to be his best man and Glenn Vermillion, Daniel Hay, Richard Jones and Dale Knack, brother of the bride, to be the ushers.
Given in marriage by her father, Joseph F. Knack, the bride wore a gown of white imported clipped Chantilly lace over tulle and taffeta. The bodice was designed with a portrait neckline embroidered with sequins and having long, tapered sleeves. The bouffant skirt fell into a chapel train and she wore a strand of cultured pearls, the gift of the bridegroom. A crown of lace to match the gown, embroidered with sequins, held the veil of French illusion and she carried a bouquet of white carnations centered with a white orchid.
Attendants of the bride wore ballerina length dresses of pure silk shrimp colored organza over taffeta. The bodices were made with V-necklines and cap sleeves and featured cummerbunds. They wore hair bows with matching theater veils, of the same color, as were their shoes. Arrangements of white and shrimp colored carnations were the colonial bouquets.
Following the wedding a reception for 350 people was held in the Druids Hall after breakfast had been served to 80 guests at noon.
Wedding bells, spring flowers, and pink and white festoons were used decoratively. Receiving the guests the bride’s mother was wearing a beige sheath of silk Shantung with beige and brown accessories. The bridegroom’s mother had chosen a blue and green print silk dress worn with blue accessories and both mothers had corsages of white sweetheart roses.
Assisting as hostesses were Mrs. James Abbott, sister of the bridegroom, Misses Rita McGinnis, Patricia Toscano, Sandra Bonham, and Holly Kemp, Canton, cousin of the bridegroom.
Out of town guests were present from Zanesville, Barnesville, Quaker City, Utica, Canton, Lancaster, Columbus, Ohio, Bay City, Standish Linwood, and Pinconning, Mich., and Sturgis, Miss.
Following the reception, the couple is leaving for a wedding trip to Indianapolis and the bride is wearing a black Shantung sheath, bone colored accessories and the orchid from her bouquet. She was graduated in 1960 from Newark Catholic High School and is employed by the State Farm Insurance Co.
The bridegroom is a graduate of Newark Catholic High School class of 1959 and he is serving in the United States Air Force in Dover, Del. They will be at home in Canterbury Rd., Viola Del., after April 13.
