Va, and that his father was Swiss. Henry worked for Vincent Kreyenbuhl Sr. of Leopold, W. Va, who was also listed as his nearest relative. Henry was described as being of medium height and build with brown hair and gray eyes. He had no obvious physical disabilities.
Elizabeth was not enumerated in the 1920 census with her parents and siblings. She would have been about 17 years old at the time.
Although the 1910 census states that Elizabeth Wahl was born in Ohio, researcher Charlie Burkhart gives her place of birth as Braddock, Allegheny County, PA.
In 1930, an 18 year old servant named Rose R. Wahl worked in the household of Samuel Orenstein in Plain Twp., Stark County Ohio. Rose was a native of Ohio whose parents were German. It is not known if this is the daughter of Peter Wahl. A family with the surname Brown was enumerated on the same page of the census, but there was no one named John or George in the household.
In 1910, George (31) and Cecelia R. (23) Vandergrift rented a home in Caldwell, Noble County, Ohio. Living with them were George's nephew James (3) and brother, Theodore (38). Georged worked as an oil operator.
On Sept. 6, 1918, 39 year old George Vandergrift of Woodsfield, Ohio filled out a US military draft registration card. He gave his birthdate as July 15, 1879 and stated that he was self-employed in the oil business in Woodsfield. His nearest relative was Cecilia Vandergrift, also of Woodsfield. George was described as being of medium height and build with blue eyes, brown hair, and no obvious physical disabilities.
At the time of the 1920 census, George Vandergrif (40) and his wife Cecilia (33) owned a mortgaged home at 39 Oak Lawn in Woodsfield, Center Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. Living with them were their two daughters, Ellen (8) and Mary (6). Ellen attended school. George was an oil producer.
In 1930, the Vanfergrift household was a crowded one. Living in the home were George Vandergrift (51), wife Ceclia B. (43), unmarried children Mary C. (16) and Robert G; (8), married daughter Ellen M. Ogle (19) and her husband James A. Ogle (20), and niece and nephew Edith A. (20) and Francis G. Burkhardt (22). Mary and Robert attended school. All were natives of Ohio except George, who was born in New York to parents who were from Pennsylvania. Cecelia's father and mother were from Ohio and Germany, respectively. George worked as a leaser producing oil. The family rented a house for $45 a month at 260 Maynard Ave. in the 18th Ward of Columbus, Ohio.
In 1930, James A. (20) and Ellen M. Ogle (19) lived with Ellen's parents and younger siblings in a rented home at 260 Maynard Ave. in Columbus, Ohio. The couple had been married about a year. James worked as a tile layer in the construction industry. He and Ellen were both natives of Ohio, as were their parents.
