Robert D. Bond, age 83, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Friday, March 30, 2012, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born May 24, 1928 in Noble County, Ohio, son of the late Lewis and Edna Britton Bond. He was a 1946 graduate of Belle Valley High School, and he was a United States Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War aboard the USS Wiseman, DE-667 from 1950-1951. He retired from Central Ohio Coal Company in 1990 where he was a dozer operator and a foreman for 18 years. He was a member of the Belle Valley United Methodist Church, the Curly Qs Square Dancing Club, and the Belle Valley American Legion Post #641. Mr. Bond was affectionately known as the Mayor of Rochester, and he enjoyed woodworking and being with his dogs. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one sister, Nellie Phelps; and one brother, Fred Bond. Surviving are his wife, Jo-Ann Yoho Bond, whom he married December 31, 1952; four children, Robert L. (Connie) Bond, Don E. (Melanie) Bond, Sharon J. (Billy) Oney, and William D. (Jody) Bond, all of Caldwell; his siblings, Mona Mae Chadwell of Cuyahoga Falls, Linda (Raymond) McMannis of East Canton, Junior (Barb) Bond of Caldwell, Betty Crock of Pickerington, and Mary Ann (Bill) Clark of Belle Valley; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his beloved dogs, Spark, Sophie, and Gizmo. Friends may call Tuesday, April 3, 2012, from 2-8PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where the funeral service will be observed Wednesday at 1PM with Ken Perkins officiating. A veteran’s graveside service will follow at Halley’s Ridge Cemetery conducted by the Noble County Veteran Service Organizations.
