Peter G. Deffet

In 1920, 17 year old, Belgian born, Peter Deffet lived with his parents, George (41) and Jane (37) in their home at 1431 Vine Ave., Canton, Stark Co., Ohio. also living in the house were Peter's siblings Ferdinand (9), Delina (7), Viola (7) and August (3). According to the census, Peter and his parents immigrated to the US in 1907 and were naturalized citizens (George in 1912). The other children were born in Ohio. Peter worked as "shop man" for a company whose name is illegible on the census form although it may be Hercules.

In 1930 27 year old, unmarried, Belgian born, Peter G. Deffet was a boarder in the home of Daniel R Craft at 419 Garden Road, Columbus, Franklin Co., OH. Peter worked as a tool maker in a Roller Bearing Company. Peter immigrated to the United States in 1906.


Viola Mary Schehl

Obituary
VIOLA DEFFET OF FULDA DEFFET Viola Deffet, age 97, Thursday, February 1, 2001 at her home.
Preceded in death by her husband Peter, sisters Ida Carroll and Julie Hanson, brother
Joe Schell, aughter-in-law Marie Deffet. She is survived by children, Jeanne Rainoldi of
Billerica, MA, Joseph (Mary) of Dayton, OH, James of Portsmouth, RI, George (Rose)
of Key West, FL, Thomas Deffet of Ft. Myers, FL; sister, Hazel Sorensen of Holiday, FL;
nieces, Rosemarie (Howard) Haddow, Barbara (Dusty) Dusterburg, both of Columbus; 24
grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren. Raised in Fulda, Oh., she was a graduate of Bliss College
and a member of Our Lady of Peace Parish for 54 years. Mrs. Deffet was a Senior Companion
for Catholic Social Services for 20 years. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.

Hazel Rose Schehl

In 1930, 21 year old unmarried Hazel Schell lived in a home she owned (value $3300) at 1434 Vine Ave., Canton, Stark Co., Ohio. Living with her were her sisters Viola (26), Julia (19) and Ida (16). Also living with her and identified as her uncle was Tarana Roehrig (25). [This is probably her 2nd cousin, Terrance Roehrig.] Hazel worked as a typist in a factory; Viola as a stenographer in a factory; Julia as a typist in a factory and Tarana as as laborer in an auto factory. Ida attended school. All members of the household were born in Ohio except Viola who was born in Pennsylvania. Listed immediately after Hazel and her family on the census form and living at 1431 Vine Avenue was Belgian imigrant George Deffet and his children Viola M., Dahlia, and Gust A. Viola Schell would later married George's son Peter G. Deffet who was living in Columbus at the time of the 1930 census.


Ida Philomena Schehl

On Jul 12, 1925, Ida Schell of Canton attended a triple birthday party at the home of Frank Smoth to honor Mrs. Alex (Tillie) Gerst, Frank Smith, and Fred Fox. See notes of Fred Fuchs (Fox) for text of the article from the Zanesville Times Recorder.


Clyde P. Schell

Spelling of surname was changed from Schehl to Schell.

Those who spent Friday evening with Dora Warner's were: Mr. and Mrs. Francis Crock, Catherine Sorg, Clyde and Edward Schehl, George Kinnen, Clarence and Clyde Schwallie.
Another note from the 15 Jan 1919 issue of the Republican Journal:
The following persons spent Sunday at Dora Warner's: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kinnen, Catherine Sorg, Bernetta and Beulah Kinnen, Clement Smith, Clyde and Edward Schehl, Nicholas Sorg, Clarence Schwallie, George Kinnen, Clarence Thompson and Bede Crum.

According to the 1930 census, 28 year old farmer Clyde P. Schell lived with his wife Mary P. (24) and their daughters Rita (4) and Deloris (11 mos) on a rented farm in Lawrence Twp., Washington Co., Ohio. All family members as well as Clyde and Mary's parents were born in Ohio. The family owned a radio.

former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Schehl and other relatives.


Marie P. Nau

Obituary:
Marie P. Schell, 86, of Chandlersville R.D. 2, died at 7:55 p.m. (June 10, 1991) at
Summit Acres Nursing Home. She was born Aug. 7, 1905 in Fulda, daughter of the late
Adam and Mary Gerst Nau. She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church and
Altar Society.
Mrs. Schell was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Schell, on Jan. 6, 1980.
They were married June 3, 1924. Also deceased are five sisters, two brothers, and three
grandsons. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Jim (Rita) Birt of Caldwell, and Mrs. Ruben
(Delores) Schafer of Caldwell; a son, Clyde Schell Jr. of Chandlersville; 10 grandchildren
and 19 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Murphy-
McCurdy Funeral Home, with wake services at 8 p.m. Friday. Mass of Christian Burial
will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Stephens Catholic Church with Father Dale Tornes
officiating. Burial will be in Fulda cemetery.


Henry William Schehl

From the Zanesville Times Recorder, 1 Oct 1930:
BERNE, O. -- Bill Schehl of Kansas is visiting at the home of
his parents on route 1. He has been employed for the past year
but on the account of suffering greatly with rheumatism he had
to return home here.

Another note from the Zanesville Signal, published on 9 Sep 1931:
BERNE, O. -- William Schehl of Portsmouth spent the
week-end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Schehl and
family of Berne Route 1.


Mildred C. Warner

Mildred C. Schehl (March 13, 1917 - July 13, 2008)
Mildred C. Schehl, 91, of the Summit Acres Nursing Home,
Caldwell, Ohio (formerly of Carlisle, Ohio) died Sunday, July 13,
2008 at the nursing home.
She was born near Carlisle, Ohio on March 13, 1917 a
daughter of the late Charles and Minnie Sorg Warner.
Mildred was a former employee of the Timken Roller Bearing
Company, Canton, Ohio and a member of St. Michael Catholic
Church, Carlisle, Ohio where she was also a member of the
Catholic Women’s Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband William Schehl on January 1, 1965 and a brother,
Harold Warner.
Surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Brubach-Watters Funeral
Home, 202 Main Street, Summerfield, Ohio from 2-4 and 6-
8 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008 with vigil services at 8:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at St. Michael Catholic Church,
Carlisle, Ohio with Rev. Fr. Thomas Hamm as the celebrant.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at
Calvary Cemetery, Massillon, Ohio.


Bernetta Caroline Schehl

Bernetta Schell did not live with her parents at the time of the 1930 census, taken on 16 Apr 1930. She was found in the household of her married sister, Helen Schehl Noll and her husband Perry Noll. Bernetta attended school that year.


BERNETTA LEONARD TO MARK 90TH BIRTHDAY
Bernetta Schoeppner Leonard of Canton will celebrate her 90th birthday next
Sunday with a party from 2 to 5 p.m. at the CYC at 1333 Park Ave. NW.

The party is given by her children and their spouses, Louis and Ruth
DiAntonio, Victor and Jean Schoeppner, Dean Campanaro, and Thomas and
Cathy Schoeppner, all of Canton; Dale and Lois Schoeppner of East Sparta;
and Joseph and Jeanne Schoeppner of South Attleboro, Mass.

Mrs. Leonard was born May 4, 1913, in Fulda, Noble County, Ohio. Her
parents were Leo and Mary Schehl. She was married to Joseph Schoeppner
and Paul Leonard. Both are deceased.

There are 29 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren and two great-great-
grandchildren.

Mrs. Leonard is a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Altar
Society at the church.

The following notice appered in The Canton Respository newspaper on May 4, 2008 Bernetta Schoeppner Leonard of Canton is celebrating her
95th birthday today. Bernetta was born May 4, 1913, in Fulda
to Leo and Mary Schehl.
She is the mother of Ruth DiAntonio, Vic Schoeppner, Dale
Schoeppner and Thomas Schoeppner. Two children, Roma
Campanaro and Joseph Schoeppner, are deceased.
She has 29 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren and eight
great-great-grandchildren.
