Isadore William Schott

At the time of the 1920 census, Isadore W. Schott (32) rented a farm on Georgetown Road in Nimishilin Twp., Stark County, Ohio. Living with him were his wife, Clara T. (30) and daughters Lucille R. (7), Hellen B. (5) and Margurie L. (1 yr 5 mos.). Only Lucille attended school. Everyone in the household was a native of Ohio, as were their parents.

In 1930, Isadore W. Schott (42) and his wife, Clara T. (40) rented a farm in Nimishillin Twp., Stark County, Ohio. They lived there with their four children, Lucile (17), Helen (15), Marjorie (11) and Richard (5). The three girls attended school. Also living with the family was a 24 year old Swiss-born farm laborer named Arnold Gribi. Isadore Schott was not a veteran of the armed forces. The family did not own a radio set.

Obituary:
ISADORE W. SCHOTT, age 95 of 4019 W. Tuscarawas, Canton passed, away Monday
Feb. 28 [1983], after a short illness.
Born in Noble County on Dec. 6, 1887 to the late Jacob and Mary Schott, he lived in the
Louisville area all his life. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and was a retired
farmer.
He is survived by one son, Richard of Canton; three daughters; Mrs., Lester (Helen) Kuhn
of Louisville, Mrs. Cletus (Marjorie) Johnson of Navarre, and Mrs. Cornelius (Lucille) Kuhn;
13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren and, one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in
death by his wife, Clara Schott in 1943.
A Mass of the Christian ­burial will be held today, Thursday, March 3, at 11 AM. In St.
Louis Church with burial in the church cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Paquelet
Funeral Home two hours before services on Thursday.

MRS. ISADOR SCHOTT
Mrs. Clara Schott, 53, a resident of Louisville for 30
years, died Sunday afternoon in the home on North Chapel st
after a long illness.
Mrs. Schott was a native of Noble county and a member
of St. Louis Catholic Church and St. Ann’s Altar and Rosary Society
She leaves her husband, Isador Schott; a son, Richard, of the home;
three daughters, Mrs. Lucille Kuhn, Mrs. Helen Kuhn, and Mrs.
Marguerite Johnson of Louisville; her father, Peter Sorg, and three
sisters, Mrs. Anna Crum, Mrs. Ida Archer and Mrs. Edna Crum of
Noble county.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in St.
Louis Church with Rev. Fr. Francis Palm singing the Requiem High
Mass and with burial in the church cemetery in charge of Paquelet
parlors.

SUMMERFIELD - Mrs. Clara Schott, 53, wife of Isadore
Schott of Louisville, Stark county, died Sunday [09 May 1943] at her
home following an extended illness. She was the daughter of Peter Sorg
and the late Rose Sorg of near Summerfield, and is survived by three
daughters, Mrs. Cornelius Kuhn, Mrs. Lester Kuhn, and Mrs. Cletes
Johnson all of Louisville, and a son Edward Schott of the home, in
addition to her husband and father.
She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters:
Harry and Otmer Sorg, Mrs. Anna Crum and Mrs. Earl Archer of Sum-
merfield, and Mrs. Edna Crum of Fulda.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in the Louisville
Catholic church and burial made in a Catholic cemetery there.


Edward Earl Archer

In 1930, E. E. Archer (68) owned a farm in Stock Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Living with him were his wife, Ida M. (38) and sons Wilbur P. (15), Bernard M. (15), Raphael C. (12), Edward H. (10), Cletus I. (8), and Herbert C. (2 yrs. 2 mos.). All of the boys except Herbet attended school. The Archers did not own a radio set. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Louis Ritterbeck and Edward's brother Andrew Archer.

Harry M. Sorg

In 1930, Harry (36) and Clara (33) Sorg owned a farm in Marion Twp., Noble County, Ohio where they lived with their children Earl (), Clyde (), Virgil (), and Dorothy (). The three boys attended school. The family did not own a radio set. Adjacent farms in the census were those of John Thomas and Harry's parents, Peter and Rosa Sorg. Clara's brother Ernest Ritterbeck lived nearby.

Obituary:
Mrs. Clara Sorge (sic), 76, of Summerfield Route 1, died yesterday [22 Dec 1972]
at 12:05 a.m. in Good Samaritan Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born Nov.
25 1896 in Noble County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Ritterbeck. Mrs. Sorge
was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic church in Carlisle and was a member of the
church’s Catholic Women’s Club.
She is survived by her husband, Harry Sorge, one daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Biedenbach
of Sarahsville; two sons, Earl and Virgil; one brother, Ernest Ritterbeck of Cuyahoga Falls;
24 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Monday in St. Michael’s Catholic church and the
funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Re. Walter Hinze will officiate. Friends
may call at the Brubach Funeral Home in Summerfield from 7 to 9 on Sunday and from 2 to
4 and 7 to 9 Monday.

Clyde Sorg is not listed as a surviving sibling in the 1957 obituary of his sister, Ruth Sorg Crock.


Roman S. Crum

In 1930, 26 year old farmer Roman Crim (Crum) lived with his wife Edna (26) in a home they owned (value $500) in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Living with them were their children Marjorie (4) and Mary R. (11 mos.). Based on census data, they had been married for about 5 years. All members of the household were born in Ohio as were Roman's and Edna's parents. The family did not own a radio set.

Roman S. Crum, 61, of 423½ North Seventh street was dead on arrival at Bethesda
Hospital at 11:45 a.m. Monday after suffering an apparent heart attack while walking
on North Seventh street near the Expressway exit.
He was born in Noble County Oct. 10, 1903, a son of Leo and Elizabeth Yeagle
Crum and was a member of the Bethel Church of God. He worked as a painter.
Surviving are his widow, Margaret, four daughters, Mrs. Lucille Archer of Summer-
field Route 2, Mrs. Mary Rose Saling, Mrs. Marjorie Saling, and Mrs. Louella
Mazenko, all of South Olive; four step-daughters, Mrs. Wanda Devaul of Falls
Church, W. Va., Mrs. Benjamin Massaro of Wooster, Mrs. Don Armstrong of
Wheeling, W. Va., and Mrs. Donald Little of 841 Leonard avenue; two step-sons,
Gail Ice of Cincinnati and Grant Ice of Cutler; a sister, Mrs. Clara Saling of Lowell
and several grandchildren.
The body was taken to DeLong and Baker Funeral Home where friends may call
after 7 p.m. today.

will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in DeLong and Baker Funeral Home with Rev.

Edna M. Sorg

Obituary:
NOBLE COUNTY WOMAN DIES; HIT BY AUTO
CALDWELL - Mrs. Edna M. Crum, 62, of Caldwell
Route 4 was fatally injured at 6 a.m. Tuesday [22 Mar 1966]
when she was struck by an automobile a mile north of Cald-
well on U.S. 21, the Ohio Highway Patrol reported.
Mrs. Crum sustained multiple fractures of her right
leg and head injuries. She was dead on arrival at a Caldwell
physician’s office where she was taken in a McVay ambulance.
Officers said Mrs. Crum walked from the west to the east side
of the highway into the path of the northbound car operated by
Mrs. Vada Z. Waybright, 36, of Marietta. Mrs. Crum was en
route to work at Loos Produce Company in Cambridge when
she was struck. She was hit as she crossed the road to get into
an automobile.
Mrs. Crum was born May 12, 1903, in Noble County,
a daughter of Peter and Rose Sorg.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Margery Saling, Mrs.
Mary Rose Saling, and Mrs. Louella Macenko, all of near Cald-
well, and Mrs. Lucille Archer of Summerfield Route 2; two sisters,
Mrs. Anna Crum of Caldwell Route 1, and Mrs. Ida Archer of Sum-
merfield Route 1; two brothers, Harry Sorg of near Summerfield;
and Ott Sorg of Caldwell; 17 grandchildren. A sister, Mrs. Clara
Schott, preceded her in death.
Friends may call at Brubach Funeral Home in Summer-
field 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today. Rosary will be recited at 7:30
p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Requiem Mass will be
sung at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in
Caldwell.


Jacob Schott

In 1880, 25 year old farmer Jacob Shotts lived with his 17 year old wife Mary in Stock twp., Noble co., Ohio. according to the census, Jacob and Mary as well as Mary's mother were born in Ohio; Jacob's father and mother were born in Bavaria and Mary's father in Virginia. Living nearby were the families of Ananias and Emma B. Archer, and Martin V. and Sarah Archer.

In 1900, 44 year old farmer Jacob Schott lived on a farm that he owned in Stock Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 37 year old wife Mary and their nine children: Amelia (19), Elizabeth (18), Katie (17), Edward (15), twins Isadore and Emma (12), Rosa (9), Martin (7), and Urban (2).

Living in the household at the time of the 1910 census were 54 year old Jacob Schott, his 47 year old wife Mary A., five of their children: Isidor W (22), Martin C (17), Urbin G (12), Wilber L (4), and Cathorine Barkhart (27), and infant grandson Robert E. (presumably the son of Catherine). All were born in Ohio except Robert, who was born in Pennsylvania.

In 1920, 65 year old farmer Jacob Schott lived with his wife Mary A. (57) and son Wilbert (13) on a farm he owned in Stock Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Wilbert attended school. All members of the household were born in Ohio; Jacob's father and mother and Mary's father were born in Germany; Mary's mother was born in Ohio. Living nearby were the families of Leo Schehl, Charles Warner, C.E. Crum, and Henry Sorg.

In 1930, Jacob (74) and Mary A. (66) Schott owned a farm in Stock Twp. One of the questions asked in the census was "Age at first marriage." Jacob and Mary were 24 and 52 years old, respectively, when they were first married. This indicates that this was Mary's first marriage, but Jacob had an earlier marriage. The Schotts owned a radio set. Adjacent homes in the census belonged to widow Mary Smith and Charles E. Crum.

Coldwater; Mrs. Crock; Mrs. William Crum of Canton; Mrs. Eugene
Lieser, Cleveland; Mrs. Rose Moran, Maywood, Ill., Isadore, of
Louisville, O.,; Edward, Martin and Urban, all of Cleveland and
Wilbur of near Caldwell; three brothers, John of Fulda and M. F.
and Caster (sic: Casper) of Caldwell. Funeral services will be Monday at 9:30 a. m. in St. Michael's

Jacob outlived both his wives. He has two tombstones in St. Michael's Cemetery:

It is not known which grave Jacob is buried in.


Mary Anna Elizabeth Miller

According to the 1900 census, all of Mary Miller Schott's nine children were still living at the time of the census. Mary and her parents were born in Ohio.

The 1910 census indicates that this is the first marriage for both Jacob and Mary, and that ten of Mary's eleven children were still living.

Obituary:
Shock following an operation for cancer last Monday causes the death of Mrs.
Mary Ann Schott, aged 51, a resident of Carlisle, Noble county, at the Good Samaritan
hospital at 5:30 o’clock Thursday afternoon. The body was removed to the Mader
undertaking rooms and prepared for burial and will be shipped to Summerfield over the
O. R. & W. road at 7:50 o’clock Friday morning. The funeral will be conducted Sunday
morning at the Catholic church in Carlisle.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Schott is survived by 10 children: Edward J., Isadore W.,
Martin C., Urban B., Wilbert W., Mrs. Emily Gerdes, Mrs. Elizabeth Crock, Mrs.
Katherine Burkhardt, Mrs. Emma Leiser and Miss Rosa Schott. Many of her children
were present when death ensued.

Jacob outlived both his wives. He has two tombstones in St. Michael's Cemetery:

It is not known which grave Jacob is buried in.


Mary Ann Block

According to the 1930 census, Mary and her mother were born in Ohio. Her father was a native of Germany.

The following appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on May 23, 1932 Mr. and Mrs. John Shehl spent Tuesday evening at
the home of Jake Schott of Summerfield, route 2. Mrs.
Schott is very critically ill at this writing.

(Mary A. Block Schott died less than 2 weeks later on June 4, 1932).

According to her death certificate, Mary A. Schott was born on October 22, 1863 in Monroe Co., Ohio to German born father George Block and Ohio born mother Catherine Schwalie [Schwallie]. At the time of her death on June 4, 1932 in Stock Twp., Noble Co., Ohio she was married to Jacob Schott of Berne, Ohio. The cause of her death is given as "Carcinoma of Intestines." She was bruied in Berne, Ohio on June 6, 1932.

conducted funeral services for Mrs. Mary Schott, wife
of Jacob Schott, Monday morning in St. Michaels
R. C. church, Berne, and burial was made in the
church cemetery. Mrs. Schott's death occurred at 11 o'clock Saturday
morning in her home, near Berne, from cancer. In
addition to her husband, she is survived by one brother
and three sisters, Jacob Black and Mrs. Frank
Ulrich, Lewisville, Mrs. Henry Kress and Mrs.
Joseph Ritterbeck, Fulda, and the following step-
children; Mrs. Eugene Leiser, Mrs. Walter Moran,
Martin and Urban Schott, Cleveland, Isadore, North
Louisville, Edward Schott, Massilon, Wilbert, Cum-
berland, Mrs. Ben Gerdis, Coldwater, Mrs. Alex Crock,
Dexter City and Mrs. William Crum, Caldwell.

A shorter death notice appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on June 9, 1932 BERNE, O., June 8 -- Mrs. Mry Schott of route 1 passed
away at her family home near here Saturday morning,
following a lingering illness of complications. Funeral
services were held Monday in the St. Michael's church
here with Brubach and Dearth in charge.


Louis J. Ritterbeck

Records conflict on place of birth. Church records of St. Mary, Fulda, Noble County, OH (cited by Delores Snider) indicate that Louis Ritterbeck was baptized there. In the 1900 census, Louis Ritterbeck states that he was born in Pennsylvania. (Fulda is about 90 miles from the Pennsylvania border.)

In 1900, 36 year old farmer Louis Ritterbeck lived on a farm that he owned in Stock Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 27 year old wife Mary and their three children: Albert (6), Clara (4), and Ernest (1). Mary and Louis could both read and write. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Cain Sorg and Allen Barnes.

In 1930, Lewis (68) and Mary (58) Ritterbeck owned a farm in Stock Twp. where they lived with their unmarried son, William (29). Unlike most of their neighbors, the Ritterbecks owned a radio set.

Living near Summerfield, Ohio in 1933, according to the obituary of his sister-in-law, Margaret Yeagle Schott.

Mary Ann Yeagle

According to the 1900 census, all three of the children that Mary Yeagle Ritterbeck had given birth to were still living.

Mrs. Louis Ritterbeck and son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. William
Ritterbeck, and their daughter Bernadine, were summoned to Pittsburgh Wednesday
by the serious illness of the former's sister, Mrs. Rachel Michaels. They were
accompanied by Wayne McAuley and Mrs. Oscar Brubach, who visited the latter's
sister, Mrs. James Donovan.

(Rachel Yeagle Michel and Mary Ann Yeagle Ritterbeck were sisters.)

Mrs. Mary Ann Ritterbeck, 73, widow of Louis Ritterbeck of Summerfield
Route, died Monday morning (May 1, 1944), at the Good Samaritan hospital
after a few days’ illness. Surviving are 3 sons, Albert & Ernest Ritterbeck of
Summerfield Routes, and William Ritterbeck of Elba, and daughters Mrs.
Harry Sorg of Summerfield and Mrs. William Yontz of Lewisville, Route and
a number of grandchildren. The body was brought to the Brubach funeral
home and prepared for burial. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.
