On the death certificate the physician wrote "Accidental?" George Burkhart never married.


Dominick Baker

All their children were born in Perry Township, Massillon, Ohio.

Norbert Fauth

In 1860, 65 year old Baden-born farmer Norbert Fauth lived with the family of his daughter, Theresa Fauth Smithberger in Elk Twp., Noble County, Ohio.


Michael Weisend Jr.

Occupation: Postmaster and owner of General Store in Burkhart Station, Ohio. Lived in Burkhart Station, Ohio.

In 1880, 32 year old farmer Michael Weisend lived in Summit Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with his wife Catherine (25) and daughter Mary Barbara (9 months). Also living in the houseold was 8 year old Alice M. Givens, who, according to the census, the Weisends "took to raise." Alice attended school.


Catherine J. Burkhart

According to the 1900 census, all five of the children of Kate Burkhart Crock were still living in 1900. This conflicts with other information which suggests that she had six children (two from her first marriage, and four from her second), all of whom were alive in 1900. Kate was born in Pennsylvania to German-born parents.

Katherine Burkhart does not appear in the 1870 census with her parents and siblings. She would have been about 15 years old.

Kate died of cancer of the omentum. The omentum is a fatty later of tissue that covers the abdominal organs. Frequently, cancer of the omentum has metastized from another organ, such as the ovaries.


John D. Burkhart

In 1860 a 27 year old Bavarian farmer named John Adam Burkhart owned property worth $1200 in Summit Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. Other members of the household were Anny Mary Burkhart (28 - Bavaria), Katherine Burkhart (5 - Penna), Jacob Huffman (18 - Ohio), and Elisabeth Sooter (64 - Switzerland). Adjacent farms in the census belonged to the famiies Anthony Bobst (54 - France) and David A. Sooter (30 - Switzerland). Both Jacob Huffman and David Sooter were cordwainers (cobblers or leather workers).

At the time of the 1870 census, John D. Burkart (33) owned a farm worth $1200 in Center Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. His personal possessions were valued at $500. Living on the farm were John's wife, Mary (29) and children Mary (10), John (9), Magdalene (7), Joseph (5) and Barbary (2). Only the two oldest children attended school.

In 1880, farmer J. D. Burkhart (40) and his wife Mary (38) lived in Center Twp. with their children John (17), Lana (14), Joseph (13), Barbary (11), Lizzie (10), Nicholas (7), and Alice (2). John and his wife were born in Bavaria; the children were natives of Ohio. All of the children attended school except Alice.

According to researcher Betty Hartley, John Burkhart is buried in the Adam F. Burkhardt (John's younger brother) family plot in Braddock Catholic Cemetery. However, John is not listed in the Braddock Catholic Cemetery Tombstone Inscriptions compiled by Tom and Nancy McAdams (http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~tandnmca/allsaints/bradcath.html).


Mary Ann Burkhart

According to the 1870 census, Mary could not read or write English.


John B. Burkhart

Records conflict on death: According to researcher Betty Hartley, John died 17 May 1869 in Wheeling, WV. However, 17 year old John appears with his family in the 1880 census.


Joseph Burkhart

Joseph Burkhart's death certificate states that he was born in Woodsfield, O. on 24 Mar 1866 and died in the village of Shadyside in Belmont County, Ohio on 14 May 1922. The death certificate indicates that Joseph was married, but does not give his wife's name. His parents were John Burkhart, born in the U.S., and Mary Burkhart, born in Germany.


Michael Weisend

According to researcher Mark Haren, Michael Weisend came to America Immigrated in 1835 with his father.

In 1850, 30 year old farmer "Michael Wisant" lived in Malaga Twp. Monroe Co. Ohio with his wife: Barbara (30) and children Elizabeth (9), Barbara (7), Mary (6), George (5), Michael (2), and John (8 mos). The oldest two children attended school. Michael's farm was worth $1000. According to the census, Michael and Barbara were born in Germany, the children were all natives of Ohio. Adjoining farms in the census were owned by David Schoup and Joseph Spangler.

In 1870, a 48 year old French-born man named Michael Weisant lived in the County Infiirmary in Monroe County, Ohio. The census indicates that he was insane. He was able to read and write. The relationship, if any, between the infirmary resident and Michael Weisend (husband of Barbara Becker) is not known at this time.


George H. Weisend

Occupation: Baker in Malta, Ohio. George also owned a tavern and livery stable in Woodsfield, Ohio.


Joseph Weisend

sDeath date changed to reflect that given in Weisend history compiled by Mrs. Blanche Weisend, by virtue of same surname. Occupation: Factory Worker in Port Homer, Ohio.


Cecilia Weisend

As far as can be determined, Cecilia Weisend never married.


Isaac Agin

Death certificate informant: Mrs. Pearl Schwall (daughter)


Matilda Fisher

At the time of the 1920 census, 65 year old widow Matilda Agin lived on South Main St. in Woodsfield, Center Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio with the family of her married daughter Pearl Schwall (25). Other members of the household were Pearl's husband, Arnold Schwall (27) and their son Roy W. (2). Everyone in the household was a native of Ohio, as were their parents, according to the census. Two households away lived widower Casper Crock, whom Matilda would marry the next year.

Seventy year old Matilda Fisher Agin Crock committed suicide by hanging herself. Death certificate informant was John Agin.


Mary Elizabeth Dick

Mrs. Mary Ulrich
Summerfield -- Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Ulrich, 45, of near Lewisville, died of an apparent
heart attack at her home at 9 p.m. Saturday (May 8). She was born in Monroe County,
June 30 1919, daughter of Fred and Martha Schoeppner Dick.
Mrs. Ulrich is survived by her husband Alex, her mother, Mrs. Martha Dick of Woodsfield,
two sons, Freddie and Joseph of the home, three daughters Margaret and Theresa of the home,
and Mrs. Jack Brown of Lewisville, two brothers, Joseph and Clarence of Lewisville; two sisters,
Mrs. Paul Madison of Woodsfield and Mrs. Frank Ross of Carroll; and one grandchild.
Requiem high mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in
Burkhart with burial in Chapel Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at Brubach Funeral Home here
