Edna A. Masciarelli (June 9, 1906 - November 17, 2008)

Edna A. Masciarelli, 102, of the Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell, Ohio (formerly of Lewisville, Ohio) died Monday, November 17, 2008 at the nursing home.
She was born near Lewisville, Ohio on June 9, 1906 a daughter of the late Joseph and Justine Crock Kuhn.
She was a homemaker; a lifetime member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church, near Lewisville, Ohio; a former member of the Dopey Dozen Quilters Club; and was a very avid quilter.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Nick R. Masciarelli on April 8, 1970; one daughter Joanne Bishop and twin children, Jimmy and Julie Masciarelli; one brother, Leander Kuhn.
Surviving are three sons: Nick A. Masciarelli of Bellaire, Ohio, Tommy Masciarelli of Caldwell, Ohio and Bill (Patty) Masciarelli of Summerfield, Ohio; four daughters: Mary Davis of Caldwell, Ohio, Esther (Jim) Ristneo of Middletown, Ohio, Diane (Ronnie) Minosky of Caldwell, Ohio and Judy Biedenbach of Lewisville, Ohio; 21 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2008.
Funeral liturgy with mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 20, 2008 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, near Lewisville, Ohio with Rev. Fr. David Gaydosik and Rev. Fr. Chester Pabin as celebrants. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery near Lewisville, Ohio. Vigil services will be held at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.


Nicodemus Roosevelt Masciarelli

The Masciarelli family lived in Summerfield Ohio in 1948, according to the West Virginia death certificate index records for their children Julie and James.

Nick Masciarelli’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 9 Apr 1970:
SUMMERFIELD - Nick R. Masciarelli, 64, of Lewisville Route
1, a retired mechanic, died Wednesday afternoon (April 8) at his
home from an apparent heart attack.
He was born March 18, 1906 in West Virginia, a son of Anthony
Masciarelli of Bellaire and the late Mrs. Ernesta Masciarelli.
Mr. Masciarelli retired in July 1968 as a mechanic for Ohio Power
Company at Bellaire. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge at
Bellaire.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Edna Kuhn Masciarelli; three
daughters, Mrs. Ester Distler of Trenton, Mrs. Diana Minoskey of
Caldwell and Mrs. Judy Biedenback of Malaga; two step-daughters,
Mrs. Joanne Bishop and Mrs. Mary Davis, both of Caldwell; three
sons, Nick A. of St. Clairsville, Thomas and William both of the home,
15 grandchildren and a great-grandson; three sisters, Mary and Mrs.
Helen Brice, both of Shadyside, and Mrs. Violet Orphy, of Tiltonsville;
three brothers, Pete, Waldo, and Marion, all of Bellaire.
Brubach funeral home at Summerfield is in charge of arrangements.

informally. Mrs. Weisend’s guests were Mrs. Arthur Kuhn, Mrs. Okey Ruble,
Mrs. Nick Marceralli, Mrs. Leander Kuhn, Mrs. Harmon Scoot, Mrs. Leland
Jackson, Mrs. Ward Bishop, Mrs. Raymond Carpenter, Mrs. Delores Burkhart,
and Mrs. Ralph Carpenter.

LEWISVILLE — Genevieve E. Kuhn, 94, of Lewisville died today (Aug. 31, 2005)
at the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Woodsfield. Arrangements
are pending at Watters Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 West, Woodsfield.


Hannah Josephine Crock

Hannah Crock is not listed as one of the children of Caspar Crock in Delores Snider's "St. Mary's -- 150 Years -- Fulda OH." In the 1900 census, her date of birth is Oct 1882. In 1900, 17 year old Hannah Crock lived with her father, step-mother and a variety of siblings and step-siblings on the family farm in Summit Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. She did not attend school during the previous year.

Hannah had a corn removed from her right foot four weeks prior to her death. Gangrene set in following the procedure. She was admitted to Good Samaritan hospital on or about 16 Nov 1950, but her illness proved fatal.


Herbert Joseph Hashman

Herbert Hashman never married. According to his death certificate, he developed epilepsy when he was a teenager. He was not employed at the time of his death.


Alexander Joseph Crock

In 1900, 15 year old Alexander Crock lived with his father and step-mother on the family farm in Summit Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. He attended school for 7 months during the previous year.

In 1910, Alexander J. Crock (25) lived as a hired hand on the farm of Andrew Moffit in Red Oak Twp., Cedar County, Iowa. Alexander's first cousins, William and Leo Crock, lived a few doors away.

Dewey George Bates

In 1920, Dewey G. Bates (21) and his wife Rozella (22) owned a home on South Main St. in Woodsfield, Center Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. Living in the household were their two children, Catherine G. (4) and Dores M. (2), as well as Rozella's father, Casper Crock (68). Dewey was a native of Ohio, as were his parents. He was employed as a machinist for a tool company.

By 1930, widower George D. Bates (31) had moved in with his parents Abraham L. (67) and Sarah J. (68) Bates in Wayne Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. Living in the household were five of George's children: Marjorie J. (10), Robert C. (9), Marthalee (7), Estherlee (7) and William (6). George's older unmarried brother, Lawrence (40) also lived in the house. Abraham worked as a carpenter, George was a farmer and Lawrence was a farm laborer.

BATES FUNERAL
Funeral services for Mrs. Rozella Bates, wife of
Dewey Bates, were conducted at the catholic church
Wednesday morning by Father Donahue and inter-
ment was made in the Catholic cemeter.
Mrs. Bates is survived by a husband and eight
small children, an aged father, Casper Crock, and
one sister, Mrs. Olefa Tschappat.
