Roy Frank Miller

Researcher Roger Schockling wrote this fond remembrance of his uncle, Roy F. Miller, following his death in 1991:

Time and distance precludes my physical presence to pay last respects. Please let my intended respects be known by reading this message of remembrance of Roy Miller.
Roy was born, raised, and learned his three Rs -- reading, riting and rithmatic -- the good old-fashioned way on Rado Ridge, Enoch Twp., Noble County.
Roy has seen, has experienced, and has endured hardship. Roy say at the age of six his sister Marie die of extensive burns. Roy, at the age of eight, saw his mother, Rosa Nau Miller, die. Any child's life is difficult without a mother's care.
While growing up as a child, helping with the farm work, doing household chores, Roy walked to school at Rado Ridge one room school house. Likewise, Roy walked to Sunday Mass at Fulda along with all the other Rado Ridge families.
On October 9, 1933, Roy married his neighbor girl, his high school sweetheart, my Aunt Mary Schwallie. Two years and three months later, fortunately for me, when I arrived in this world, this happy young couple became my godparents. Roy Miller was a model example, being my uncle, my godfather, my friend.
Being kin to the Roy and Mary Miller family brought many long remembered happy family gatherings full of laughter at Grandma Schwallie's house, at Roy and Mary's house, at our house. Precious are the boyhood memories of the hide and seek games, the watermelons, the summer vacation visits, the house warming, the card games, the butchering, the cookie jar, the home made pie. I especially cherish the photograph of the Miller, Schwallie, and Schockling family children in the yard by the wash line and the grape arbor at grandma's house. I well remember being on summer vacation at Roy and Mary's house and went along into downtown Zanesville to the celebration of VJ Day -- Victory in Japan -- on August 15, 1945.
Roy began his own family on a farm near Summerfield. After some ten years or so, Zanesville became his home town. Roy was a farmer. He worked at the Farm Bureau feed store, he delivered home heating oil, he worked at the Zanesville Glass Mould, and after partial retirement, he worked for a farm machinery dealer. Roy provided for his family rain or shine, during the hot summers, during the cold winters. Roy was dependable, generous and kind. We loved him.
Dear God, Uncle Roy has done your will. May your grace shine upon him. May he be blessed with eternal happiness in heaven.

Roger Schockling
