Immigrated to US in 1867; spent one year in New York as a gardener. From there, he went to Cincinnati, Ohio for one year; then to Summerfield, Noble County, where he married Mary Weisend. He settled in Ludlow Township, Washington County, Ohio, about 20 years prior to his death.

In 1900, widower Theobald Burkhart (55) owned a farm in Ludlow Twp., Washington County, Ohio where he lived with his children Joseph W. (19), Nettie (16), William (14), Leonard (11) and Abba (7). William went to school for 4 months during the previous year; Leonard for 6 months, and Abba for two months. The two older children did not attend school. According to the census, Theo came to America in 1865. Adjacent farms beloned to unmarried Charles Cawley and to Charles Pritchett. Living nearby was the family of John Muth. John's daughter Sarah later married Theo's son Edward.


Charles I. Ruple

Brothers Charles and Ignatz Ruppel married sisters Barbara and Frances Hohman.

In 1880, 27 year old farmer Charles Ruple lived in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his wife Barbara (27) and daughters Mene (4), Elizabeth (2), and Eva (7 months). Adjacent farms in the census belonged to his younger brother Ignatius Ruple and to D.M. Harris.

The following letter appeared in the Caldwell Citizens' Press (27 Jan 1881):
A CARD
FULDA, O., Jan 22nd -- In reply to Magnus Webber's card in [The
Caldwell] Republican of last week, I wish to state that I had nothing to
do with the stone work or chimneys. I did the carpenter work only, and
have the order of the building committee for my pay for the same. They
accepted the job as I completed it and I expect my pay at the proper time.
Charles Ruppel

From The Caldewell Citizens' Press on 14 Sep 1882:
Monday afternoon a fight occurred between two of our citizens. Peter
Lohad struck Charles Ruppel several times in the face, disfiguring the
same in a terrible manner. No arrests.

The following appeared in the "Fulda" column of The Caldwell Citizens' Press on 18 Jan 1883:
Charles Ruppel has traded his saw mill which he bought of John Hall
for another mill, paying $300 difference.

The following account appeared in the "Fulda" column of The Caldwell Citizens' Press on 15 Mar 1883:
John Lorei had an arm very badly hurt by being struck by a broken belt,
as he was working at Charles Ruppel's portable saw mill.

Charles Ruppel moved his family to Washington Co., OH in 1887.

In 1900, carpenter Charles Ruple (42) and his wife Anna (43) owned a home at 728 Seventh Street, 4th Ward, Marietta, Washington County, Ohio. Living with them were seven of their children, Mary (18), Margaret (16), Charles (14), Amelia (12), Louise (10), Francis (8) and Esther (5). All of the children except Mary and Esther attended school.

By 1910, Charles (57) and Anna B. (56) Ruple had moved to a multi-family dwelling on Pennsylvania Avenue in the first ward of East Liverpool in Columbiana County, Ohio. The only other person in the household was their youngest daughter, Esther (15), who attended school. Charles was employed as a house carpenter.

Charles and Anna Ruple owned a two-family house at 854 Pennsylvania Ave. in East Liverpool, Ohio in 1920. None of their children lived with them. Charles, age 67, still worked as a house carpenter.

Anna Barbara Hohman

Sisters Louisa, Anna Barbara, and Mary Frances Hohman married brothers Louis, Charles, and Ignatz Rupple.

According to the 1900 census, Anna had given birth to 10 children, all of whom were still living. By 1910, one of her children had died -- the 1910 census indicates that only 9 of her 10 children were living.

Mrs. Charles Rupple's obituary appeared in the Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on May 24, 1934
RECEIVES WORD OF DEATH
Mrs. Frances Rupple has received word of the death of her
sister, Mrs. Charles Rupple, who died at the home of her daugh-
ter, Mrs. Louise Stottsberry, in Canton, from a lingering illness of
complications.
Mrs. Rupple was well known in Noble county having lived near
Fulda for a number of years. She is survived by several daughters
and one son. Services were held at East Liverpool Wednesday
morning at 9:30 o'clock.
