Norbert Lewis Smithberger

Rita Anna Crock

The following engagement announcement for Rita Crock and Norbert Smithberger appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on June 30, 1953:
CALDWELL -- Announcement is being made of the engagement
and approaching marriage of Miss Rita Crock, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Sebastian Crock of near Caldwell to Norbert Smithberger, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Smithberger of Lewisville.
The wedding will take palce August 8 in Philamena Catholic church,
Caldwell. Custom of open church will be observed.
Miss Crock is a graduate of Caldwell high school, class of 1952.
She is a student at Duquesne university in Pittsburgh. Smithberger
is a graduate of Bethel high school class of 1948. He graduated from
Mountain State Business college in 1949 and is now employed with
the Cleveland Graphite company at Caldwell.

Obituary:
Rita A. Smithberger, 71, of Reyoldsburg, died peacefully,
July 10, 2005, after a courageous fight with cancer. She was
born on December 4, 1933, the oldest of seven children, to
Sebastian and Freda Crock in Caldwell, Ohio.
She graduated Valedictorian of the 1951 Class of Caldwell
High School and attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.
She served as a greatly loved volunteer with Reynoldsburg
Cancer Thrift Shop for almost 25 years. She was also the 1991
Senior Tomato Festival Queen of the Senior Citizens of Reynolds-
burg.
She is survived by Norbert, her husband of 51 years, and
her children, Marion (Carol) Smithberger, Margaret (Dan) Root,
Paul (Kathy) Smithberger; grandchildren Mandy, Lindsay, Jordan,
Haley, and Meagan; brothers and sisters, Rosemary (Vernon)
Schott, Kenneth (Donna) Crock, Fred (Martha) Crock, Debra (Ken)
Stottsberry, and Barbara Crock; and aunts, Pearl Estadt and Clara
Crock.
Her family received friends at the Cotner Funeral Home,
7369 E. Main St. in Reynoldsburg. A Mass of Christian Burial
was held at St. Pius X Church, 1051 S. Waggoner Rd., on
Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at 10 a.m. followed by internment
at Holy Cross Cemetery.


Richard Charles Steigerwald

Richard C. Steigerwald's obituary appeared in The Canton (OH) Respository newspaper on October 1, 2007 Richard (Dick) C. Steigerwald, age 76, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly in his residence Friday, September 28, 2007. He was born in Canton on November 3, 1930, the son of the late Charles and Alice (Mohn) Steigerwald. He was a life member of St. John Catholic Church, a graduate of Lehman High School, class of 1949 and served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He retired from the Ford Motor Company as a tool & die maker. He enjoyed country music, guitar playing, hunting, and home projects.
He is survived by brother, John (Jack) Steigerwald and his wife, Mary Ann of North Canton; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, June and Al Melleragno of Miami Springs, FL, Alma and Joe Miller of Lamy, NM, Rita Steigerwald of Canton; and his dear friend, Lucille Smithberger and her family of Navarre.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. John Catholic Church with Fr. Ronald M. Klingler as celebrant. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
