Stanford William McElroy

Stanford William McElroy age 71 of Ava, OH went to be with the Lord Monday, April 23rd, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born March 21st, 1941 in Ava, a son of the late Arlo and Kathryn Wood McElroy. Stanford served and protected his nation for 3 years in the US Army, in the 73rd Engineer Company. He enjoyed his Grandchildren, the outdoors, tending to his garden, traveling, trout fishing and playing horse shoes. He also gained great enjoyment from teaching others through his life experiences. Stanford was self employed for many years until his retirement. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by 2 Brothers James and Edwin McElroy. He will be missed by his family, Wife of 51 years Norma Jean Saling McElroy of the Home, whom he married November 26th, 1960 at the former St. Philomena's Catholic Church in Caldwell, OH; 4 Sons Tim (Marie) McElroy of Cambridge, OH, Jason (Diana) McElroy of Cambridge, Matthew (Cathy) McElroy of Blue Rock, OH and Alvin (Angela) McElroy of Caldwell; 2 Daughters Ellen (Jim) Mizik of Caldwell and Valerie Shafer of Mt. Ephraim, OH; 7 Grandchildren Christopher, Payje, Braden, Caleb, Jacob, Hannah and Dalton McElroy. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends. In keeping with Stanford’s wishes cremation will be observed with no additional funeral services at this time. Chandler Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 609 West Street, Caldwell, OH 43724 has been entrusted to care for the family.

Ignatz Peter Miller

In 1910, 25 year old farmer Ignatz Miller lived in a rented home with his wife Elenora E. (20) and their twins Bernard A. and Bernadetta A. (4 mos) in Enoch Twp., Noble Co., Ohio. They had been married for 1 year. All members of the household were born in Ohio; Ignatz's father was born in West Virginia and his mother in Ohio; and Elenora's parents were born in Ohio. Living on nearby farms was the August Dimmerling family and the Joseph Michael family. Also living nearby was Elenora's sister Olivia and her husband Leo Gerst.

On September 12, 1918 self employed farmer Ignatz Miller (34 - September 3, 1884) of RFD 4, Caldwell, Noble Co., Ohio registered for the military draft. According to his draft registration card, his nearest relative was Mrs. Elenora Elizabeth Miller of the same Caldwell address. His physical description is given as short, medium build, light blue eyes and light hair.

At the time of the 1920 census, I. P. Miller (35) lived with his wife Nora (30) in a farm they owned in Enoch Twp., Noble Co., Ohio. Living with them were their children Coletta (9), Rupert (6), Alberta (5), Herman (3 yrs 11 mos), and Maria (11 mos). Coletta and Rupert attended school. Listed immediately after them on the census sheet was the family of Nora's sister Olivia and her husband Leo Gerst.

The family spoke German at home. The children did not start to learn English unti about 1930 or so.

In 1930, 45 year old farmer Ignatz P Miller lived with his wife Nora (40) in a farm they owned (value $500) in Enoch Twp., Noble Co., Ohio. Living with them were their children Coletta (19), Ruppert (17), Alberta (15), Herman (14), and Maria (11), Virgil (9), Grace (5), Vera (3 yrs 1 mo). Alberta, Herman, Maria, and Virgil attended school. Rupert occupation is given as farm laborer. The Miller family owned a radio set. Listed immediately after them on the census sheet was the family of Nora's late sister Olivia, wife of Leo Gerst.

On May 29, 1942, Ignatz Peter Miller (57, dob September 3, 1884, pob Caldwell, Ohio) registered for the military draft. His place of reisdence is given as Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville, Muskingum Co., Ohio. His draft registration card lists Oto Heil of Good Samaritan Hospital as the person who will always know his address. His employer is listed as Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville, Muskingum Co., Ohio. His physical description is given as height: 5'5"; weight: 190 lbs; eyes: blue; hair: brown; complexion: light.


Obituary from the Zanesville Times Recorder, pg 2 B, 27 Jul 1965:
Ignatius (Pete) Miller, 79, died at 7 a.m. Monday
(July 26) at the Twilight Nursing Home on Findley avenue,
where he had been a resident for the past two months. Mr.
Miller was born Sept. 3, 1885 in Fulda, Noble County, a son
of Henry and Elizabeth Michael Miller. He was a member
of St. Nicholas Catholic church and the Columbian and Holy
Name Societies.
Surviving are his widow, Nora of Elyria; five daughters,
Mrs. Colitta Estadt and Mrs. Genieva Saling of Caldwell, Mrs.
Alberta Hall and Mrs. Marie Archer of Elyria and Mrs. Vera
Oliver of Mount Vernon; two sons, Herman Miller of Unionville,
Va., and Virgil of Wakeman, O., 30 grandchildren and 20 great-
grandchildren.
The body is at Hillis Funeral Home where friends may
call after 1 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m.
Friday at St. Nicholas Catholic church. Burial will be in Mount
Olive Cemetery.


Elenora Elizabeth Schott

Elenora Schott Miller's obituary appeared in The Chronicle Telegram (Elyria, OH) on August 11, 1979:
Mrs. Ignatz Miller Mrs. Nora Miller, 89, of Caldwell, formerly of the Elyria
area died in the Summit Acres Nursing Home Tuesday. Born in Fulda, Ohio, Mrs. Miller made her home in Elyria
approximately 27 years. She was a member of St. Mary
Church in Fulda. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Alberta) Hall,
Mrs. Harold (Marie) Archer, both of Elyria, Mrs. Clem
(Coletta) Estadt, Mrs. Edward (Genevieve) Saling, both
of Caldwell, and Mrs. Paul (Vera) Oliver, Mount Vernon;
31 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and three
great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Ignatz who
died in 1965, two sons and a daughter preceded her
in death. Services were held in Caldwell Friday and burial was
in the Fulda Cemetery.

Nora Schott Miller's obituary does not mention the two sons known to have survived her (Herman and Virgil). The children who predeceased her were Rupert (who died in 1964) and Bernard and Bernadetta, twins who died on the same day when they were 8 months old.
