Louis Dick

In 1900, Lewis Dick (48) lived with his wife of 19 years, Mary (46) on their mortgaged farm in Summit Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. Living in the household were their children Frederick (13) and Ida M. (9), both of whom attended school. Adjacent farms in the census were those of John Friday and widow Elizabeth Burkhardt. Mary's father, Adam Schehl, lived two doors away. Louis Dick's daughter Eugenia Burkhart also lived nearby.

In 1910, Louis Dick (58) owned a farm in Summit Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio where he lived with his wife of 28 years Mary (58) and son Fred (22). Louis was born in Germany and came to America in 1871 (hard to read). Adjacent farms in the census belonged to unmarried Adam Schehl (65) and John Friday. The family of 49 year old Fritz Schehl lived two doors away. Adam, Fritz and Mary were siblings.

In 1920, 67 year old farmer Louis Dick lived in Summit Twp., with his 66 year old wife, Marry. Also living with them was their son Fredrick (32), his wife Martha (29), and their three children, Joseph (7), Clarence (4), and infant Marry. Louis was born in France, but his native language was German. His parents were born in Germany. Louis was able to read and write.

The informant for Louis Dick's death certificate -- his son, Fred Dick of Kuhn, Ohio -- did not know the names of Louis Dick's parents.

Mary A. Schehl

Sources conflict on place of birth:
Ohio -- 1910 census
illegible -- 1920 census (not Ohio, Pennsylvania or Germany)
Pennsylvania -- 1870 census, death certificate, and death certificate of daughter Ida Dick Zwick

Sources also conflict on date of birth
Aug 1853 -- 1900 census
1853 -- 1920 census
19 Nov 1851 -- death certificate

According to the 1910 census, Mary was born in Ohio to German-born parents. Mary had given birth to three children, all of whom were still living at the time of the 1910 census. The 1920 census entry for Marry Dick states that she was born in Germany. She could not read or write.
