Harold John Smithberger

The following note appeared on page 16 of The Zanesville [Ohio] Signal on 03 Nov 1944:
WOODSFIELD -- Capt. Harold Smithberger, son of Mr. and
Mrs. C. P. Smithberger of Paul Street is spending a furlough
with his parents after having completed 50 missions as a pilot
in the Italian sector. A brother is in a German prison camp.


Alfrida Rita Schumacher

Obituary:
Alfrida R. Smithberger age 86 of Woodsfield, Ohio died Monday December 4, 2006 at the Woodsfield Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born June 4, 1920 in Monroe County Ohio a daughter of the late Joseph F. Schumacher & Anna L. Paulus Schumacher. She was a member of the St. Sylvester Catholic Church of Woodsfield, Ohio and a member of the Catholic Womens Club. She worked at the St. Sylvester Catholic School in the Library and Office.
Preceded in death by her husband: Harold J. Smithberger – 1999, 1 brother: Edmund Schumacher, 2 sisters: Stella Spangler, & Marie Schumacher, and 1 granddaughter: Joanna Janiszewski.
She is survived by 5 sons: Ray (Lois) Smithberger – Columbus, Ohio, Frank (Linda) Smithberger – Woodsfield, Ohio, Leo (Carla) Smithberger – Circleville, Ohio, George (Jeanette) Smithberger – Scott Depot, West Virginia, David (Denise) Smithberger – North Canton, Ohio, 2 daughters: Ethel (Paul) Janiszewski – Marysville, Michigan, Ann (William) Benedetto – North Canton, Ohio, 3 sisters: Agnes Burkhart – Canton, Ohio, Louise Schumacher – Woodsfield, Ohio, Mildred Schumacher – Woodsfield, Ohio, 17 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren.
Friends received from (3-5) & (6-9) p.m. Wednesday at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home 100 S. Paul St. Woodsfield, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Thursday December 7, 2006 at the St. Sylvester Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. David Gaydosik officiating. Interment in the St. Sylvester Catholic Church Cemetery. Vigil Services will be held 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Sylvester Catholic School, 119 Wayne St. Woodsfield, Ohio 43793.


Melba Bessie Blowers

Melba B. Smithberger, age 79, of Marion, OH, died Thursday October 19, 2000 in Riverside Hospital. Born January 20, 1921 in Beallsville, OH, to father, Manford Blowers and mother, Effie Riley Blowers. She married Paul E. Smithberger October 27, 1943 in Bethesda, OH. Member of Smeltzer Road Alliance Church. Survived by one son, Gene (Patty) Smithberger of Marion; one daughter, Janice (Tom) Kimmel of Lakeland, FL; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Gene (Wanda) Blowers of Elida, OH; one sister, Margaret (Melvin) Christman of Holmes Co., OH. Graveside services will be Monday October 23, 2000 at 1 p.m. with Rev. James Caister. Burial in Northlawn Cemetery, Canton. Memorial contributions may be made to Smeltzer Road Alliance, Church.


Edmund Joseph Schumacher

Edmund Schumacher never married. According to the Ohio online death certificate index, he died in an out-of-state hospital. He was a resident of Monroe County, Ohio at the time of his death.

SCHUMACHER, Louise M., 93, of 45568 Sugartree Road, Woodsfield, Ohio, died at 2:25 p.m. Sunday, January 7, 2007, at her home. She was born near Woodsfield, Ohio, on July 10, 1913, a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Paulus Schumacher. She was a retired bank teller at the Citizens National Bank in Woodsfield; a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, where she was a member of the Catholic Womens Club and the St. Francis Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Stella Spangler, Marie Schumacher and Alfrida Smithberger; one brother, Edmund Schumacher. Surviving are two sisters, Agnes Burkhart of Canton, Ohio and Mildred Schumacher of Woodsfield; 14 nieces and nephews; 35 great-nieces and nephews; 16 great great-nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, Ohio from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, with the Rev. Fr. David Gaydosik officiating. Burial will follow in St. Sylvester Catholic Cemetery, Woodsfield. Vigil services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Sylvester Catholic School, 119 Wayne Street, Woodsfield, OH 43793.
