William Burkhart

In 1900, William Burkhart was a hired hand on the farm of Thomas J. Smithberger in Elk Twp., Noble County Ohio. William was born in Ohio to German-born parents.

Henry August Burkhart

In 1910, a 41 year old unmarried Henry Burkhart lived in Seneca Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio with a hired woman named Clemetine Biedenbach (23). Henry was a partner in a dry good store. It has not been determined that this person is the same as Henry Burkhart b. 1871.

On 16 Jan 1927 a 55 year old man named Henry Burkhart committed suicide in Canton Ohio. His pbituary indicates that he came to Canton from Noble County. However, a review of the death certificate of the suicide victim shows that his parents were Joseph and Rosie (Beechley) Burkhart, and that he was a native of Washington County. Thus, the man who committed suicide is not to be confused with Henry August Burkhart, son of John Adam Burkhart.

Obituary:
THIRD ATTEMPT TO TAKE LIFE IS SUCCESSFUL
Henry Burkhart, aged 55 years, committed suicide
by hanging himself in the basement of his home at 1906
Mahoning road NE, Canton, sometime Sunday morning.
He had made a noose out of a bed sheet and his body was
found by other persons residing in the house.
Burkhart spent Saturday evening with friends here.
Just after 11 o’clock he left the home of one of the friends in
an automobile and went as far as Smith’s filling station. Here
he got off intending to take a bus for Canton. The friend pro-
ceeded west and when he looked back he saw Burkhart
walking up the Gorgas street hill. Twice following that Burk-
hart lay on the Stark Electric R.R. tracks evidently intending
to commit suicide but each time the motormen of the ap-
proaching cars succeeded in stopping before the man was
struck.
Burkhart came here from Noble county a number
of years ago and worked among the farmers. He was an
inoffensive fellow and none of his friends believed he had
self-destruction in mind. He had money at times but lost it
in bad investments and it is believed this troubled his mind.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon
and burial was made in Forest Hill cemetery in Canton.

Eva E. Blake

Fourteen year old Eva Blake lived with her parents and several siblings on the family farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio in 1900. She did not attend school that year, although her older and younger brothers did. Eva knew how to read and write.

The informant for Eva Blake Carlin's death certificate was a Mrs. Walseth of 39 Glencoe Place (presumably Cincinnati). The name of Eva's husband is not known.
