Philadelphia, Pa., and Miss Kathryn Strahler, daughter of
Mrs. Rose Strahler, of Waterford, were married on Satur-
day, Aug. 29, at Recreation hall in Philadelphia.
The following article appeared in The (Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on November 22, 1949 LOWELL -- Mrs. Arthur Nicholas celebrated her birthday,
Sunday. A dinner was served at noon to the following uests
(sic): Rev. Fr. Brown, and Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Strahler, and
two children; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Strahler, and three children;
Mr. and Mrs. Clemence Strahler, Mrs. Rosa Strahler. Mrs.
Nicholas received many gifts. The afternoon was spent
socially.

LOWELL--A son was born on Tuesday at Marietta Memorial
hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Nicholas of Lowell. Mrs. Rosa
Strahler of Lowell is a grandmother.
In 1930, 26 year old Joseph Schaad lived with his wife Mary E. (23) in a rented home on Fifth Street in Beverly, Washington Co., Ohio. Joseph and Mary were newlyweds. Joseph worked as a "hatcheryman" at the Beverly Hatchery. Joseph was born in Pennsylvania, his father in Ohio and his mother in Germany. Mary and her mother were born in Ohio, her father was born in Vermont. The family did not own a radio.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Schaad and son Lawrence and daughter Elizabeth of Beverly attended the annual Schott reunion on Sunday, July 30, 1933 at the fairgrounds in Marietta, Ohio. See notes of Jacob Schott for a complete list of attendees.
Elizabeth Schaad became a nun.
Obituary:
Fr. Jerome Schaad, SCJ, treasurer of the U.S. Province of the Priests ofthe Sacred Heart for almost 30 years, died February 26. He was 62. Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Fr. Schaad professed his first vows with theSCJs in 1957. He received his bachelor's degree from Kilroe Seminary inHonesdale, Penn., did his theological studies at Sacred Heart Monastery inHales Corners, Wis., and earned a master's in physics from CatholicUniversity of America in Washington, D.C. He was ordained to the priesthoodin 1966 at St. Mary's parish in Hales Corners, Wis. From his many years in Finance, Fr. Schaad's name has become synonymous withthe Province Treasurer's office. However, before entering that role, hetaught math and science, first at Divine Heart Seminary in Donaldson, Ind.,and later at Kilroe, where he had received his own undergraduate education. As treasurer, Fr. Schaad served on several corporate boards of directors inthe province, including the board of Gregory Productions, which wasresponsible for the production of The Spitfire Grill. As a board member,Fr. Schaad played an active role in seeing the movie to completion.Proceeds from the production later went to on to fund the building of SacredHeart School in Mississippi. Fr. Schaad also served for many years on the General Finance Commission forthe congregation. His work on the commission took him around world,including the General Conference in Brazil last year, where he delivered apresentation. However, his travels weren't always work related. In 1982, Fr. Schaadcelebrated his 25th anniversary of religious life by riding his bike fromHales Corners to Hyder, Alaska. It was the longest of several bicyclejourneys that he had taken. "It was a good time to get a lot of prayer in,"he said in a Milwaukee Sentinel interview done soon after the ride. "Thecontact with nature brings to mind your creator." Approximately two years ago, Fr. Schaad was diagnosed with Waldenstrom'sMacroglobulinemia, a rare form of blood cancer. Due to increasing healthproblems, Fr. Schaad left his duties as province treasurer just this month.He was a member of the Sacred Heart Monastery Community. Obituary:
Thomas E. Schaad, 67, Columbus, died Wednesday (February 6, 2002) at
the Ohio State University Medical Center. A member of St. Brendan Catholic
Church, he was a retired employee of ABB and a veteran of the United States
Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Schaad; and a
brother, Father Jerome Schaad.
Surviving are his wife, Theresa Jane Schaad; three daughters and sons-in-law,
Martha and Douglas Karcher, Carol and Kim Greenawalt, and Barbara and Timothy
Simpson; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lori Schaad; a sister, Sister Elizabeth
Anne; a brother and sister-in-law, Laurence and Nancy Schaad; and six grandchildren,
Cory, Ryan, Cassie, Cody, Tyler and Isaac.
Visitation was held at Tidd Funeral Home, Hilliard, with a Mass of Christian Burial
held at St. Brendan Catholic Church with celebrant Reverend Joseph J. Trapp II. The
family wishes to thank the staff of the MICU for their compassionate care, and sincere
thanks goes to the Norwich Township paramedics. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribu-
tions may be made to the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital, 300 West 10th Avenue,
