David Theobald Baker

"David Theobald" is a common name in the Burkhart family.

In 1880, David's future wife, Isabelle Catherine Haren, lived two households away in the census. David and Isabelle were 26 and 12, respectively, at the time of the 1880 census.

In 1900, David Baker was listed in a dwelling with two families. He, his widowed sister Margaret Baker Riesbeck, and widow Mary Burkhart Haren, and her oldest son, Frank Haren were all listed as farm owners. Also living in the home were two of Margaret's adult children (Mary and John), three of Mary's adult sons (Frank, Leo, and Albert) and Mary's widowed brother, Adam Burkhart.

Isabel Haren Baker's death certificate states that she had an operation three years prior to her death, but the nature of the operation was not given.


Francis Regis Baker

Frank R. Baker was a truck driver who never married, according to his death certificate.


Mary Catherine Baker

Obituary:
Miss Mary C. Baker, age 67, of 8447 Cleveland Ave. NW, North Canton,
passed away Monday evening [14 Jul 1975] in Marcelle Nursing Home in
Louisville following a short illness.
Born in Monroe County, November 7, 1907 to the late David and Isabell
Haren Baker, she lived in the Stark County area for the last 54 years. She was
a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in North Canton and St. Paul’s Altar
and Rosary Society.
She is survived by two brothers, Joseph A. Baker of Paradise, Calif., and
Frank R. Baker, with whom she lived.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul’s with
burial in St. Louis Cemetery of Louisville. Friends called at the Paquelet Funeral
Home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.


Carl Letzelter

In 1880, Chas. Latzeller (32) lived in Woodsfield, Monroe Co., Ohio with his wife, Barbary (32) and and children Barbary F. (5) and Chas. E. (1). Charles was a Bavarian-born blacksmith. His wife and children were natives of Ohio. Charles' older brother Michael lived next door.


John Riesbeck

In 1870, 27 year old schoolteacher John Reisbeck lived in Malaga Township, Monroe County, Ohio with his 19 year old wife, Margaret. The couple had been married for five months. The couple did not own any real estate. Their personal possessions were valued at $200. According to the census, John's parents were "of foreign birth."


Margaret Baker

In 1880, widow Margaret Baker Riesbeck lived on her parents' farm in Malaga Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with her four children, Elenore (9), Agnes (7), Clara (6), and John (4). The girls all attended school.

In 1900, widow Margaret Baker Riesbeck (50) lived a farm that she owned with her unmarried younger brother David Baker (46) with two of her children Mary C. (26) and John S. (24). According to the census, Mary had four children, all of whom were living in 1900. Enumerated as a separate family in the same dwelling was the family of widow Mary Burkhart Haren, three of her adult sons, and her widowed brother Adam Burkhart. Mary Burkhart Haren and her oldest son, Frank, are also listed as owners of the farm. Mary Haren's niece, Isabelle Haren (daughter of Peter Haren) would later marry David Baker. The census states that both of Margaret Baker Riesbeck's parents were born in Germany.


Anthony G. Brahler

Obituary:
Anthony G. Brahler, age 80, of Perry Twp., passed away Monday afternoon, October 22, 2001, in the Hanover House following an extended illness. He retired from Superior Dairy after 30 years of service and was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, K of C #4733 where he currently served as Warden, Moose Lodge #233 and Notre Dame Subway Alumni. He was an avid sports enthusiasts; and was inducted in the Canton Old Timers Fast Pitch Hall of Fame. He served his country in during WWII in the US Army. He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Ida; a brother, Adrian; and a sister, Alvera. He is survived by a daughter, Joan (Carl) Schiavone; sons, Tom Brahler and Gary (Susan) Brahler all of Canton; sisters, Mary Babcock and Theresa Brahler both of Canton; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas P. Dyer as celebrant. Burial will follow in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. Friends may call Thursday 6-9 p.m. in the Don Williams Funeral Home, where the K of C will hold its' service at 5:45 p.m.

Mary Margaret Brahler

Mrs. James Smalley, North Fourteenth st., spent the
week-end in Canton with Mrs. Ragen Babcock. Mrs. Smalley,
Mrs. Arnold Babcock, Martha Stevens and Mrs. John Babcock
attended the wedding Saturday morning [17 Jul 1948] in St.
Mary’s Church, Canton, of Miss Mary Brahler and Charles
Babcock.
A wedding dinner at “The Nineteenth Tee” followed
the nuptials. A reception at the VFW hall was held later in the
day.
Both the bride and bridegroom are employed by the
Hoover company, Canton. Mr. Babcock, son of Mrs. Ragen
Babcock, is manager of the B and B Billiards Class A baseball
team.

Well into her eighties, Mary Brahler Babcock is active in local politics.


Gustav Haren

Gustav was a surgeon residing in Schonau, N. Baden, Wurttemberg, Germany in the mid 18th century. Marriage document found for his son Peter Haren shows both Gustav's and Peter's signatures on LDS film # 777187 from Obersteinbach, Bas-Rhin, France. Gustav also spelled Gustave.
