Fredrick Neuhart

It has not been proven that the Fred Neuhart in the 1880 census (son of Michael) is the same person as the husband of Matilda Schumacher. However, this is the only Fred Neuhart (any spelling) in that age bracket Ohio in the 1880 census index.

In the 1900 census, Frederick Newhart (36 - Feb 1864) and his wife Matilda (34 - Jul 1866) lived with their son George E. (1 mo. - May 1900) in Center Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. Fred was employed as a saloonkeeper. His parents were German.

According to the 1910 census, Fritz Neuhart was a self-employed butcher.

Occupation: Carpenter. Lived in Woodsfield, Ohio. Moved to Donora, Pennsylvania 1921.


Mary Riesbeck

alternate spelling of surname: Reisbach

According to the 1880 census, Mary's father and mother were from France and Pennsylvania, respectively. The 1880 census states that Mary was born in Ohio.

The 1900 census has the birthplaces flipped: Mary and her father were born in Pennsylvania' her mother was from France.

Louise Agnes Wetzel

Louise Wetzel Schumacher’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Signal on 10 Feb 1949:
WOODSFIELD - Mrs. Louise A. Wetzel Schumacher, 73, died at her home on 202 First street, Woodsfield, Wednesday morning following a long illness. The body is at the family home. Mrs. Schumacher was born at Elm Grove, W. Va., on October 17, 1875. On January 8, 1902,. She was united in marriage to George Schumacher. They moved to a farm east of Woodsfield where they resided until his death on August 23, 1937. For the past 12 years, Mrs. Schumacher has lived in Woodsfield.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. William (Helen) Ludwig of Woodsfield; two sisters, Miss Carrie Wetzel of Wheeling and Mrs. Anton Michel of Bridgeport, and one brother, William Wetzel of Wheeling. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Sister M. Caroline, Mrs. Catherine Byrnes, Mrs. Mary Baker and Mrs. Celia Miller and one brother, John Wetzel.
Mrs. Schumacher was a member of St. Sylvester’s Catholic church, the Purgatorial Society and the Alter (sic) Society. Funeral services will be held in St. Sylvester’s church Friday morning at 9 o’clock with Rev. G. J. Mehler officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.


Benjamin F. Paulus

Occupation: Operator of Hardware Store in Woodsfield, Ohio.

Benjamin Paulus’ obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 10 Mar 1964:
WOODSFIELD - B. F. Paulus, 88, of Woodsfield died at his
home Monday morning after a long illness.
He was born March 6, 1876 in Woodsfield, a son of Joseph
and Mary Reisbeck Paulus and had operated Paulus Hardware
here for several years.
Mr. Paulus was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church
here.
Surviving are his widow, the former Katherine Schumacher;
two daughters, Miss Virginia of the home and Mrs. Martha
Sciortino of St. Louis, Mo’ a son, Clarence of the home; one
sister, Mrs. Joseph Schumacher, and four grandchildren.
Friends may call after 1 p.m. today at the Bauer-Turner
funeral home here. Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Wed-
nesday at the funeral home. Rev. Fr. Robert Brown will
celebrate mass at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Sylvester Church.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mary Virginia Paulus

Obituary:

WOODSFIELD - Mary Virginia Paulus, 93, died Friday (June 22, 2001), at the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Woodsfield. She was born Jan. 5, 1908 in Woodsfield, daughter of the late Benjamine and Catherine (Schumacher) Paulus. Mrs. Paulus was the owner and operator of the former Virginia’s Dress Shop and co-owner of the former B.F. Paulus Hardware Store, both of Woodsfield. She had also been employed in the Monroe County Auditor’s office in her early years. She was a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Clarence; and one niece. She leaves one sister, Martha Sciortino of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Betty Paulus of Woodsfield; two nephews, Frank Paulus of Woodsfield, and Ralph Paulus of Marietta; and one niece, Marilyn Paulus of Orlando, Fla.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p. m Monday at the Bauer-Turner Funeral Home, Woodsfield. Christian wake service at 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield with Fr. Thomas Hamm officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Sylvester Church, 330 S. Main St., Woodsfield.
