George William Kuhn

Living in Canton in 1953.

George Kuhn’s obituary appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 18 Mar 1977:
George W. Kuhn, 85, of 1618 Putnam Ave., died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethesda Hospital. He had been in failing health the past three months.
He was born Aug. 2, 1891 in Summerfield, and was a member of the St. Nicholas Catholic church. Mr. Kuhn was also a retired carpenter.
His wife, Goldie Kuhn, died in 1972.
Surviving are two sons, Harry Kuhn, with whom he made his home, and Donald Kuhn of 24 Shawnee Ave; a daughter, Mrs. James (Margaret) Ballathin of Ravenna; four sisters, Mrs. Stella Shaw of Grove Ave., Mrs. Laura Kelly of Arch St., Mrs. Grace Kelshner of Seborn Ave., and Marcella Warner of Caldwell; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The body was taken to DeLong and Baker Funeral Home where friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.


Golda Anna Hague

SUMMERFIELD - Mrs. Catherine Kuhn and daughter, Mrs.
Laura Kelly, were companion hostesses at a meeting held at
the former’s home at Doherty. Quilting and social pastimes
were enjoyed and a pot-luck dinner and supper were served.
Included among the guests were Mrs. G. W. Kuhn of Caldwell,
Mrs. Daniel Carpenter, Barnesville; Mrs. Ivan Love and Mrs.
Jennie Danford of this town; Mesdames Charles Snack, Mar-
garet Nauer, Frank Scott, Ellis Brown, Martha Calland, Sallie
Carpenter, Martha Carpenter, Delia Kuhn, C. R. Calland, Celia
Smithberger, Mrs. Fred Warner and children, Ruth and Dickey,
of Berne.

Obituary:
Mrs. Goldie Anna Kuhn, 75, formerly of 520 Under-
wood street, a retired employee of Bethesda Hospital, died
at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Putnam Nursing Home after a two-year
illness.
Born in Summerfield Dec 15, 1896, she was a
daughter of Harry and Margaret Walters Hague.
Mrs. Kuhn was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic
Church.
Surviving are her husband, George Kuhn of Carlisle;
a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Lallathin of Ravenna; two sons,
Harry Kuhn of 618 Putnam avenue and Donald Kuhn of 104
Harrison street; a sister, Mrs. Ora Reed of Adamsville road;
two brothers, Harlan Hague of Woodsfield and Frank Hague
of Mingo Junction; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchild-
ren. A daughter, two sisters and a brother are deceased.
Friends may call at DeLong and Baker Funeral Home

James Kelly

According to a note in the Zanesville Signal on 4 Sep 1937, Mrs. Laura Kelly and son James, of Doherty, attended a party in Summerfield. Several other members of the Kuhn family attended.


Sherman R. Kelchner

Sherman Kelchner’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Signal on 17 Oct 1952:
Sherman R. Kelchner, 62, of 1210 Seborn avenue, a retired postal inspector, died at 6:55 o’clock this morning at Bethesda hospital. He was admitted to the hospital Wednesday.
Mr. Kelchner was a native of Delaware and had resided here only a year. Previously, he had also resided in Zanesville. He retired from the postal department on Nov. 30, 1951.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge at Delaware.
Surviving are his widow, Grace; a son, John of Columbus and a brother, Leonard of Delaware.
The body was removed to the Putnam chapel of Mader-Peoples funeral home.

Peter December

Came to America c. 1851-1854

At the time of the 1860 census, 44 year old Bavarian farmer Peter December owned real estate worth $600 in Franklin Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. The only other member of the household was 12 year old Mary December, also a native of Bavaria.

Peter J. Burkhart

In 1920, Peter Burkhart rented a farm in Sunsbury Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. He lived with his wife, Frannie (37), and children Joseph V. (20), Herman (18), Matilda (15), Mary (13), Clara (11), Clyde (8), and Grace (11 mos). Only Clara and Clyde attended school.

The obituary of Peter Burkhart appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 31 Dec 1937:
PETER BURKHART DIES AT OZARK
Four Sons and Five Daughters Among Survivors
OZARK, O., Dec 30 - Peter Burkhart, 74, lifelong
resident of this community, died at 8 o’clock Wed-
nesday afternoon at the home of his sister Mrs.
Tillie Burkhart, after an illness of more than a week’s
duration.
He is survived by nine children, four sons, Raymond,
Herman, Clyde and Joseph, and five daughters, Mary
Agnes, Tillie, Grace, and Clara, one brother, Leo Burk-
hart, of Beallsville Rt. 4, and one sister Mrs. Tillie Burk-
hart of Ozark.
The body has been taken to the Elovers & Campbell
funeral home at Beallsville and will be brought back
here for funeral services and burial. Funeral arrange-
ments are incomplete at this time. Interment will be
made in Ozark Catholic cemetery.

According to his death certificate, Peter Burkhart was divorced. His ex-wife's name was Irania Burkhart.


John L. Kuhn

At the time of the 1900 census, John Kuhn (28 - Mar 1872) and his wife Delia J. (25 - Aug 1874) rented a house in Seneca Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. According to the census, Delia had not given birth to any children, although they had been married for four years. Also living in the home was a 7 year old boy named Everson E. Bunting (Aug 1892). Everson's relationship to John Kuhn is listed as "servant." Everson did not attend school, but neither did other children on that page of the census who were eight or younger. John Kuhn was employed cutting logs. The census stated that everyone in the household was a native of Ohio, as were their parents, except for John's father, who was French. Adjacent households in the census belonged to farmers James Stephen and William Powell.

In 1910, a 45 year old John S. Kuhn lived in Seneca Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with his 36 year old wife Adelia (?). They had been married 14 years, but had no children. The household was located between those of Joseph (40) and Elias (65) Kuhn. It is believed that John S. Kuhn was was the brother of Joseph Kuhn.

In 1930, John L. Kuhn (65) and his wife Adelia (56) still owned a farm in Seneca Twp. The farm was close to those of Simon and Joseph Kuhn, believed to be John's brothers.

Obituary:
J. L. KUHN DIES NEAR BURKHART
SUMMERFIELD - John L. Kuhn, lifelong resident of the Burkhart
community, east of here, died Wednesday morning [1 Oct 1939] at
his home following a long illness.
He was one of a family of thirteen children of John and Mary Anna
Kuhn. He is survived by his widow, Delia, of the home, and the following
brothers and sisters, Hoadley Kuhn, Woodsfield; Peter, Powhatan; Nicholas
and Simon Kuhn and Mrs. Mary Schell, near Lewisville, and Mrs. Lucy
Friday, Athens.
He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic church, Burkhart, where
funeral services will be held. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

There is an eight year discrepancy between John's year of birth in the 1870 census (abt 1864) and the 1900 census (Mar 1872).

SUMMERFIELD -- Mrs. Mollie Keterer and Mrs. Delia Kuhn
of Woodsfield visited Thursday with Mrs. Jennie Danford, and
attended funeral services for H. B. Horton.

According to the Ohio online death certificate index, Delia Kuhn was a resident of Monroe County.
