Doris O. Singer

Obituary:

Doris M. Weimer, age 81, of Canton, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at the family residence in Canada. A life resident of Canton, Doris was a graduate of McKinley High School with the class of 1936. Preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Lula (Parott) Singer; also by a sister, Miriam Jones; and a brother, Robert Singer. Doris is survived by her husband of 60 years,Jack O. Weimer, Sr., of the residence; two sons, Jack O. Weimer, Jr. and his wife, Karen of Navarre, OH, and Robert M. Weimer of Alexandria, VA; four grandchildren, Amanda Weimer Rohs and her husband, Tim, Sheila, Michael, and Jonathan Weimer; two sisters, Jean Miller and Mrs. John (Nancy) Bosley, both of Massillon; Doris is also survived by several nieces, nephews and dear friends. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2000, in the Spiker-Foster-Shriver Funeral Home, 710 Tuscarawas St., W., with Rev. Fr. John J. Skala officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call on Sunday 6-9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.


Charles H. Singer

In 1920, 24 year old Charles H. Singer owned a mortgaged home at 2325 Indiana Way in Canton, Ohio. He lived there with his wife Ruby A. (23) and son Charles D. (age illegible). Also living in the house were three boarders. Charles worked as a factory foreman.

In 1930, Charles H. Singer (34) owned a home worth $4500 at 2022 Third St. NE in Canton with his wife Ruby and children Charles Jr. (11) and Eleanora (7). Both children attended school. As they did ten years earlier, the Singers had several boarders. Charles worked as a foreman in a metal furniture factory.

George Norman Baker

In 1930, George N. Baker (39) owned a home worth $5000 at 227 Glendale Ave. in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio where he lived with his wife Agnes (41) and eight children: Bernice (15), Bernard (13), Mary (11), George (9), Herbert (7), Frederick (5), James (3), and Janette (1), Bernard, Mary, George and Herbert attended school. The family owned a radio set. George was employed as a rougher in a steel mill. He was not a veteran. Agnes' brother Raymond Burkhard lived nearby on Brookover Ave.

This anniversary announcement was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 13 Feb 1972:
GEORGE N. BAKERS MARK THEIR 60TH ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. George Norman Baker of 545 Glendale
avenue will observe the 60th anniversary of their marriage
on Sunday, Feb. 20. A family gathering will be hosted by their
sons and daughters at the Glendale avenue address.
The Bakers were married in St. John’s Catholic Church at
Miltonsburg on Feb. 20, 1912. Mr. Baker, whose parents were
George Belmear and Amelia Chambers Baker, recalls that on
his wedding day he rode to the church in a horse-drawn sleigh.
Mrs. Baker is the former Agnes Ann Burkhard, daughter of David
and Caroline Singer Burkhard.
The couple has three daughters, Mrs. William (Bernice) Bee
of Lancaster, Mrs. Henry (Mary Margaret) Kempf of Canton, and
Mrs. Charles E. (Jane) Durant of Lawhead lane, and five sons,
Bernard J. of Newark, Herbert W. of Dillon Falls, David of Hoge
avenue, Frederick J. of Southard avenue, and John F. of Lake
drive.
A son, George Joseph, and a daughter, Beatrice, are
deceased.
There are 40 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, all
of whom are planning to attend the gathering.
The reception will follow a noon mass at St. Nicholas Catholic
church which will honor Mr. and Mrs. Baker.


George Baker’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 24 Apr 1977:
George N. Baker of 545 Glendale Ave., died at 7:45 p.m.
Saturday at his home following a six month illness. Mr. Baker
was born Sept. 28, 1891 at Nashport, a son of George B. and
Amelia Chambers Baker. He was employed by Armco Steel
Corp. for 31 years and for Line Material Co. for 14 years. He
was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and Eagles
Lodge.
Surviving are his widow, the former Agnes Burkhard, whom
he married Feb. 20, 1912; three daughters, Mrs. William (Bernice)
Bee of Lancaster, Mrs. Henry (Mary Margaret) Kempf of Canton
and Mrs. Charles (Jane)Durant of 1615 Lawhead Ln.; five sons,
Bernard J. of Newark, Herbert W. of 3005 Dillon Falls Rd., J.
Frederick of 62 Southard Ave., David J. of 1655 Hoge Ave. and
John F. of 1234 Lake Dr.; a sister, Mary Baker of 2746 Maple Ave.;
a half-sister, Mrs. Ethel Warenbee of Tacoma, Wash; 40 grand-
children, and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death
by a daughter, Beatrice, and a son, George J.
The body was taken to the Hillis Funeral Home where friends
may call 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
The Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Agnes Anna Burkhard

At Good Samaritan hospital, Mrs. Agnes Baker,
72, of 545 Glendale avenue, was treated for a fractured
right wrist and was dismissed. She received the injury
when she slipped on a step in front of her home and fell
to the sidewalk.

Amelia Chambers

BIRTHDAY DINNER
Mrs. Amelia Baker and Mrs. John Burkhart, who have birthdays in March,
and who are each one more than 80 years of age, were guests of honor at a dinner
given by the Ladies’ Society of St. Luke’s American Lutheran church. In the
afternoon, Mrs. Paul Varner led the discussion on “Consecration.” Mrs. Myrtle
White, the president, was in charge and special music was furnished by Mrs.
Wilbert Noyes.

The obituary of Amelia Baker appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 7 Mar 1941:
LONG ILLNESS FATAL TO MRS. BAKER, 88
Mrs. Amelia C. Baker, 88, died last night at her home, 206 Jefferson street,
after an extended illness.
Although she was born at Pleasant Valley, Mrs. Baker had spent the greater
part of her life in Zanesville. She was a member of St. Luke’s American Lutheran
church.
Survivors include a son, George N. Baker, 545 Glendale avenue, two daughters,
Miss Mary E. Baker of the home and Mrs. Ethel Wartenbe, Tacoma, Wash., one
brother, David Chambers, Newark; 15 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The body will be removed from the Mader-Peoples funeral home to the residence
of George N. Baker 545 Glendale avenue, this afternoon. Funeral arrangements
have not been completed.


Jerome Frederick Baker

On 8 Dec 1929, the Zanesville Times Recorder reported that Frederick Baker, 5, son of Mr. and Mrs. George N. Baker of 227 Glendale avenue sustained a broken leg when he was struck by an automobile on Elberon avenue.


Mary Ann Hemmer

The following engagement announcement appeared in the Zanesville Signal on 23 Apr 1950:
SELECTS JUNE 10 FOR VOWS
The engagement and wedding date for Miss Mary Ann
Hemmer and J. Frederick Baker is announced today by
Miss Hemmer’s mother, Mrs. Cora Hemmer of 1113
Eastman street. The ceremony will be solemnized June
10 in St. Nicholas Catholic church. Mr. Baker is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. George N. Baker of Glendale avenue.
Both young people are graduates of St. Nicholas high
school and members of that parish. The bride elect is
employed at Ohio Bell Telephone company and Mr.
Baker is at Line Material company. Miss Hemmer is
the daughter of the late Charles Hemmer.
