Donald Anthony Hohman

According to his aunt, Sister Marie Hohman, as a tiny tike Donald would come to help grandpa in the garden. One day they quizzed him about what the two of them had done that day. Don replied that they had planted “pickled beets”. Don liked his beets picked so that’s what they planted.

Edwin A. Sternagle

At the time of the 1930 census, Edwin Sterngel (23) and his wife of one year, Florence (19) lived with Edward's parents in their home at 160 Rhoda Ave. in Youngstown, Ohio. Edwin was employed as a carpenter in a steel mill.

Edwin is not mentioned as a surviving child in his father's 1960 obituary.


Wilbert A. Herbst

Served in World War II. From tombstone inscription: SGT 1759 ENGR SP SHOP BN, WWII

In 1930, 29 year old Wilbert Herbst lived with his wife Kathryn (25) in the home of Kathryn's widowed mother Margaret Keane (61) at 167 Stokes Ave. in North Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Living with them were their children Mary J. (2 yrs 10 mos) and Regis (3 mos). Renting part of the 2-family house was Fulda native Andrew Estadt with his wife Hilma and daughter Virginia. Wilbert worked as a truck driver for a lumber mill.All members of the family were born in Pennsylvania, Wiberts parents were born in Ohio and Kathryn's parents were born in the "Irish Free State." The Estadts were all born in Ohio. The family did not own a radio.


Walter E. Herbst

In 1930, Walter (26) lived in the family home on First St. in Braddock, PA with his parents and younger siblings. He ws employed in the building trade.

Walter and Emma's tombstone is inscribed with the words "Father" and "Mother." The name(s) of their child(ren) are not known.


Clyde L. Herbst

In 1930, 35 year old Clyde J. Herbst lived with his wife Mina (23) in a rented house (rent $25/mo) at 645 First Street in Braddock, Allegheny Co., Pennsylvania. Based on census data, they had been married for 4 years. Living with them were their children Evely (2 yrs 11 mos) and Jacqueline (7 mos). Clyde worked as a truck driver for Braddock boro. Clyde and the children were born in Pennsylvania and Mina was born in Arkansas, Clydes parents were born in Ohio and Mina's father was born in Arkansas and her mother in Nebraska. The family did not own a radio.
