Agnes Schumacher

Agnes C. Burkhart, a woman of faith who loved her family, passed away Friday in the House of Loreto. Born on February 16, 1912, in Woodsfield, OH she was the daughter of the late Joseph F. and Anna L. (Paulus) Schumacher. She lived in Canton most of her adult life. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Peter's Ladies Guild/Women's Club and the St. Peter's Altar Rosary Society.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Leo N. Burkhart who died in 1981, and daughter: Rita Ann Burkhart; brother: Edmund J. Schumacher; sisters: Louise M. Schumacher, Stella E. Spangler, Marie E. Schumacher, and Alfrida R. Smithberger.
She is survived by her daughters: Marjorie J. Burkhart, of the home, Jean M. (Robert) Kauppi, of Rockville, MD, Rosemary L. Burkhart, of Canton, Susan L. (David) Shumar, of Cincinnati, OH; grandchildren: David (Kimberly), Matthew, and Jennifer Kauppi, John, Michael, Joseph, and Matthew Shumar; great-grandchildren: Isabel and Jackson Kauppi.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Peter Catholic Church with Msgr. Robert L. Noon as principal celebrant and Msgr. John C. Finnigan as concelebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Wackerly Funeral Home. The St. Peter's Ladies Guild/ Women's Club will hold a prayer service at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.


Michael Burkhart

Also known as John Michael, Johann Michael.

Marriage witnessed by Francis Joseph Burkhart and Johannes Zwick.

Michael Burkhart and family came to America on board the Duchess D'Orleans, which sailed from LeHavre, France and arrived in New York on April 22, 1843. Other passengers on the ship were the families of Michael's brother, Wendel, and Jacob Singer.

John Michael Burkhart helped build St. John the Baptist Church in Miltonsburg, Monroe Co., Ohio.

In 1850, Michael (62) and Adelia K. (59) Burkhart owned a farm worth $550 in Seneca Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with Sebastian (34) and John (27) Burkhart. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Christian Klusencamp and Michael's son-in-law George Nauer.

CANFIELD - A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 9:15 a.m. at Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Boardman-Canfield Chapel and a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Dominic Church in Youngstown, for Virginia G. Scheetz, 95, who passed away Friday evening at Hospice House.
Virginia was born Nov. 28, 1912 in Youngstown, a daughter of Frank and Mayme Gillespie Moore.
Virginia graduated from The Rayen School. She was a member of St. Dominic Church. Virginia and her husband, Leonard were one of the founding families at St. Michael Church and she was a former member of their Altar Guild. Virginia enjoyed spending time with her family.
Her husband, Leonard Philip Scheetz, whom she married May 14, 1936, passed away Feb. 21, 1996.
Virginia leaves her children, Joseph (Margaret) Scheetz of Boardman, Jerry (Loren) Less of Canfield, Janet (Gerry) Grace of Diehl Lake, Ellsworth, Richard (Mary Jo) Scheetz of Kansas City, Mo., and Dianne Paes of Canfield; 17 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Besides her parents and husband, Virginia was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Martin Paes; and four sisters, Mary Elizabeth Appleton, Blanche Schuller, Ruth Kidwell, and Kathryn Herald.
Family and friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
