Louis Michael Naples

BOARDMAN - Louis M. Naples, 73, passed away early Thursday morning, July 12, at Hospice House in Poland Township following a lengthy illness.
Lou was born Oct. 14, 1933 in Youngstown, a son of the late Louis and Madelyn Christy Naples, and was a 1951 graduate of South High School.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War in the Alaskan Air Command, attained the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in July of 1955.
Mr. Naples graduated from Youngstown University in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, majoring in private accounting. He began his career as a junior accountant for the Rosenblum Bros. Company and then worked for the Standard Oil Company for 25 years, holding various management positions. After taking early retirement from Standard Oil, he worked as a lighting support services manager for Roth Bros. Inc. for seven years, retiring in 1996.
Lou was a member of St. Charles Church and was active in civic affairs in the Boardman community. He enjoyed learning and was self-taught in many subjects. He also enjoyed several sports and was an avid Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan.
Singing was Lou’s most passionate avocation. He had his own musical band, "Serenity," in the 1970s and was its lead vocalist. His band appeared at many local restaurants and night clubs, and the highlight of his singing career was an impromptu appearance at the Flamingo Resort in Las Vegas, which was a memory he deeply cherished.
Mr. Naples leaves his devoted wife, Mildred Campbell Naples, whom he married Dec. 29, 1998; a son, Louis (Laura) Naples of Brecksville; two daughters, Kathleen Ann (Clarke) Nagle of South Euclid and Lisa Ann (John) Mullins of Avon Lake; two stepdaughters, Gwen Edenfield and Lori Mikolaj, both of Boardman; six grandchildren, Andy Vukovich of Columbus, Ryan Naples of Brecksville, and Sage, Olivia, Simone and Brielle Mullins, each of Avon Lake; two step grandchildren, R.J. (Roy) Mikolaj and Ryan Mikolaj, both of Boardman; two sisters, Carol (Bob) Burich of Austintown and Sandra (Bob) Calton of Northfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Family was the most important thing in Lou’s life. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Lou’s first wife, Sally Scheetz Naples, passed away in 1969. Two grandchildren, Kelly and Joseph Vukovich, are also deceased.
Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.
Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home, and continue with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Charles Church.
