In 1930, 34 year old Clem W. Butler rented a farm in Malaga Twp., Monroe County, Ohio. Living with him were his wife, Victoria (30), and children Vernon L. (7), Hilda M. (3 yrs 10 mos), and Hazel C. (2 yrs 3 mos.). Only Vernon attended school.

On 13 Sep 1935, The Zanesville Times Recorder reported that Mr. and Mrs. Clem Butler and children Vernon, Hazel, and Hilda, of Woodsfield, attended a reunion of the descendants of Robert and Mary McNulty Carpenter at the Monroe County Fairgrounds in Woodsfield, OH.

Clemence W. Butler, 85 , of Woodsfield, Route 3, died
early April24 in Barnesville Hospitial.
He was born Aug 10, 1896 in Belmont Co., the son of
the late John and Minnie Reischman Butler.
Mr. Butler was a retired farmer, a retired Malaga Township
Trustee,and a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church,
Miltonsburg.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Schegg Butler; two daughters,
Mrs.Hilda Burkhart of Woodsfield, and Mrs. Hazel Kanzigg of Bealls-
ville; ason, Vernon Butler of Barnesville, Route 1; 13 grandchildren
and 20 greatgrandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his first wife, Victoria Carpenter
Butler in 1952.
Friends were received at the Bauer and Turner Funeral Home,
Woodsfield, Monday.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St.
John'sChurch. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Rosary devotions were held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral
home.
