George William Kress

WOODSFIELD, O. - The following marriage licenses were issued by the Probate Judge A. C. McDougal on Monday [17 Nov 1941]…
Mr. George M. Kress, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kress of Canton, and Miss Martha Christina Burkhart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Burkhart of Woodsfield Rt. 3. The Rev. George Dresher has been named to officiate.

Wedding announcement:
Miss Martha Christina Burkhart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Burkhart of Woodsfield Route 3, and George William Kress,
son of Mrs. Margaret Kress and the late Fred Kress, also of Woods-
field Route 3, were united in marriage November 17th, at St. John’s
church at Miltonsburg with Rev. George Drescher reading the cere-
mony. Miss Florence Kress, sister of the bridegroom and Charles
Burkhart, brother of the bride, were the attendants. Following the
ceremony a wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride-
groom’s mother with members of the immediate families present.
The couple will reside at Canton where Mr. Kress is employed.

The obituary of George Kress appeared in the Wheeling (WV) Intelligencer on 27 Mar 2006:

George W. Kress Sr., 90, of 221 Center Street, Woodsfield, Ohio,
died Tuesday, March 21, 2006 at his home.
He was born at Scottown, Ohio, on Dec. 31, 1915, a son of the late
Frederick and Margaret Bosold Kress.
He was a retired farmer and oil field worker. He was also a former
lockman of the U.S. Corp. of Army Engineers; a U.S. Navy veteran of
World War II and a member of St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield,
Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters,
Marie Cornett, Florence Schumacher and Alice Buckalew; three brothers,
Carl Kress, Gilbert Kress and Oscar Kress.
Surviving are his wife, Martha C. Burkhart Kress whom he married on
Nov. 17, 1941; three daughters: Evelyn Ann (Floyd W.) Griffin of Canton,
Ohio, Helen Marie (Jerry) Dillon of Canton, Ohio and Christena Margaret
"Chris" (Joe) Hoff of Woodsfield, Ohio; six sons: Frederick Joseph Kress
and fiance' Jenny Shafer of Caldwell, Ohio, Robert Lewis (Darlene) Kress
of Chesteron, Indiana, Clemence Eugene "Clem" (Sharon) Kress of Lewis-
ville, Ohio, William John "Bill" (Lori) Kress of Canton, Ohio, Ralph James
(Lucia) Kress of Bakersfield, California, George William Kress Jr., of Bakers-
field, California; one sister: Edith (Raymond) Reischman of Miltonsburg,
Ohio; 21 grandchildren; several great- grandchildren; several nieces and
nephews.
Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, Woodsfield, Ohio,
from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m., Friday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, at St.
Sylvester Catholic Church, Woodsfield, Ohio, with Rev. Fr. David Gaydosik
as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Sylvester Catholic Church, Woods-
field, Ohio.
Vigil and military services will be held at 8:30 p.m., Friday, at the funeral
home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Sylvester Catholic Schools,
119 Wayne Street, Woodsfield, Ohio 43793.
