In 1900, Sebastian Burkhardt owned a farm in Center Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with his wife of eight years, Lany (38), and their two sons, Herman J. (6) and Clarence (5). According to the census, the couple did not have any children who died prior to 1900.

At the time of the 1910 census, Sebastian (46) and Magdalena M. (47) Burkhard still lived in Center Twp. Living in the household were their three surviving children, Herman J. (16), Ida C. (6), and Lorna C. (3). A fourth child (Clarence) died prior to 1910.

In 1920, Sebastian F. Burkhard (56) and his wife Mary (57) owned a farm in Center Twp. Living with them were their daughters, Clementine I. (16) and Lorena C. (13). Lorena attended school.

The Burkharts still owned a farm in Center Twp. in 1930 -- Sebastian F. (67), Magalene (68), Clementine (26) and Lorna (23). The farm was valued at $3700. Like most of their neighbors, the Burkhart family did not own a radio set.

Adam Arnold

In 1880, farmer Adam Arnold (52) and his wife Barbara (49) lived in (Ozark) Sunsbury Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with their children Mary (29), Christopher (25), Jane (20), George (17), William (15), Charles (13), Henry (11), Laurey (?) (10), Katie (8) and Sallie (4). William, Charles, Henry, Laurie, and Katie attended school. The children were all born in Ohio. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to James Adair and Adam Zwick.

On 5 Jun 1884, The Caldwell Citizens' Press {Caldwell, Noble County, Ohio] reported:
Miss Mary A. Arnold, of Ozark, and Miss Amane, of Wheeling, are the guests of
John B. Arnold, their uncle.

Two weeks later, the same paper said:
Miss Mary E. Arnold of Ozart [Monroe County, Ohio] returned home one
day last week after a visit at her uncle John B. Arnold's.
