Francis Raymond Burkhart

Obituary:

Francis R. Burkhart Francis R. "Burky" Burkhart, passed away peacefully in his sleep February 25, 2006. He was born on September 6, 1923 in Maximo, OH and attended Louisville High School. His parents were Raymond and Laura (Begue) Burkhart.

He was drafted into the United States Army at the beginning of World War II and served with the 44th Infantry Division in Europe. Following the war, he joined Seiple Lithography Co. from which he retired as Vice President, Production in 1985 after 41 years of service. A longtime permanent camper at the Southfork Camping area at Leesville Lake, he loved fishing for the ever-elusive largemouth bass. He also possesed an uncommon talent to create beautiful pictures in counted cross-stitch, many of which he shared with friends as treasured gifts. Mr. Burkhart was a resident of North Canton for 55 years and was a member of Rivertree Christian Church in Jackson Township.

His sister, Helen Frustaci, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Olive Ann (Huff); sons, Dennis Burkhart of Massillon, David (Mary) Burkhart of McKinney, TX; grandchildren, Jessica and Michael, both of Minneapolis, MN, Sara, a student at Michigan State University; brother-in-law, Robert Huff of North Canton and sister-in-law, Fran Lightfritz of Louisville, OH. Loved also by Burkey were his niece, Tammy Minor and her husband, John and their sons, Austin and Justin.

He was deeply loved by his friends in the Supper Club to which he and Ollie belonged for over 40 years. He was a man who never knew a stranger and he will be missed by his multitude of friends, especially the younger ones who have always loved him dearly as "Uncle Burky" or "Grandpa B."

Friends may call Tuesday from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at the Reed Funeral Home, North Canton Chapel (801 Pittsburg Rd. NW). A memorial funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. George Henry Deffet

George Henry Deffet's obituary appeared in the Columbus (OH) dispatch newspaper on October 13, 2004 DEFFET George Henry Deffet, age 72, of Flat Rock, NC, formerly of Upper Arlington, passed away October 8, 2004, at his daughter's home in Dublin, surrounded by his family after a battle with lung cancer. Proceeded in death by son John Michael, and parents Peter and Viola Deffet. A graduate from Aquinas High School and University of Dayton.
Survived by his wife, Rose of 48 years; 8 children and 17 grandchildren, Kathy Mraz, of Olympia, WA, Christine Huffman (Ken) of San Diego, CA, Dan (Sue) of Ostrander, Kevin (Martha Jackson) of Upper Arlington, Mary Gordon (Joe) of Dublin, Brian (Kara) of Toluca, Mexico, Michele Mancini (Domenick) of Columbus and Mark, of Columbus, Erin Taylor, Grant, Paris, Ethan Huffman, Colin, Brendan, Evan, Patrick Deffet, Casey, Alex, Kaitlyn Gordon, William, Jacob, Claire Deffet, Anthony, Nicholas, Lena Mancini; sister, Jeanne Rainoldi; brothers, Joe, Jim and Tom Deffet.
A successful entrepreneur, he held careers in real estate and singing. George was an early pioneer of multi-family development and strong proponent of open housing. Other passions included acting, writing, painting, golfing and bicycling through Europe with Rose and friends. George's final request was to make an anatomical donation to the Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public Health.

Martha Ann Grubb

Obituary:

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Martha Ann Needham, 79, of Poplar Avenue, Williamstown, died at 9:17 a.m. Tuesday (May 31, 2005) at the Marietta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Marietta on May 15, 1926, to Frank E. and Dorothy Margaret Ketter Grubb. Martha was a 1944 graduate of St. Mary Catholic High School. She retired from Bank One in Marietta, where she worked as a bookkeeper and safe deposit supervisor. Martha was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Catholic Women's Club and she was a former member of the Betsey Mills. She loved to volunteer at The Castle and for the trolley tours, where she was a guide at times. Martha enjoyed needleworking and gardening. She is survived by three daughters, Janet Schaad (Thomas), of Marietta, Diane Zwick (Joseph) of Lower Salem, and Cindy Ankrom (James) of Parkersburg; two sisters, Mary Lou Doan (Robert) of Marietta and Margaret Grubb of Marietta; seven grandchildren, Julie and Rick Schaad, Jason Zwick (Stephanie), Amy Zwick (Bruce Erb), and Heather and Jamie Ankrom. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Richard Needham, on Aug. 23, 1980. They were married on Nov. 15, 1948. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 3, 2005, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Monsignor John Michael Campbell celebrating. Burial will be in New St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and all day Thursday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. A vigil service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Church, 506 Fifth St., Marietta, Ohio 45750.
