All were natives of Bavaria except young John, who was born in Ohio. A son from John's first marriage, Joseph Yontz, lived in the adjacent household in the census.
The family has not been found in the 1870 census for Monroe County.
In 1920, Joseph Slevin (42) and his wife Sarah (47) owned a home at 505 S. Chestnut St. in the 2nd Ward of Barnesville, Belmont County, Ohio. Living with them were two of Sarah's children from her first marriage, Anna Burkhart (13) and Joseph Burkhart (25) and Joseph's wife Elizabeth Burkhart (21). Anna attended school. Joseph Slevin worked as a cook at the railroad bridge works. Sarah's daughter Victoria Burkhardt Slevin lived next door with her husband and two sons. The relationship between the two Slevin men is not known at this time.
