Notes

Franz Kreuter

From Hauenstine Praetor - 1724, 1725. Variants of this name include Greiter, Kreiter, Kreuter.

Hauenstein is not a big town, nor was it particularly in the 17th century. Hauenstein was completely destroyed during the 30 yrs war (1618 to 1648). Apparently the populace ran off to hide in the forest during the war, and what remained in the town was burned. Only a few returned after the war. There is some reference to the Scheib name in records from Annweiler in 1577 where the widow of Peter Scheib from Hauenstein married Heinrich Selmlich, so apparently there were Scheib’s in Hauenstein in the mid 16th century.
