John December

From Carol Hatfield:
The family name, as handed down in oral tradition, sounded like "Decatur." It may have been pronounced De-KAME-ber (with a hard K).

Carol Hatfield believes the family of John December came to America when daughter Barbara (b. 1839) was a young child, which would put the immigration date in the early to mid 1840s.

From Andy Miller:
According to the Catholic church records of Trulben, John was born on 30 Jan. 1813. He was baptized in the church on 31 Jan. 1813. He married Anna Peeters (Deiter/Diether) in Trulben, Rhein-Pfalz, Germany in 1837.

According to the 1860, Marion Twp., Noble County, Ohio census, their daughter Safronia/Veronica was born in Bavaria in 1844 and their son George was born in Ohio in 1847, so the family must have immigrated between 1844 and 1847. On the 1920 census Safronia stated that they immigrated in 1846, and that they were naturalized in 1865. However, on the same census, her sister Barbara stated that they immigrated in 1851, which can’t be correct because George December was born in Ohio in 1847.

Anna (Deiter) December died 27 March 1885 and John December died 25 March 1895. (These dates are taken from Catherine Fedorchak’s reading of Chapel Hill Cemetery, back in the 1960s.) They are buried in Chapel Hill Cemetery, Burkhart, Monroe County.

Diocese of Columbus, Bulletin of the Catholic Record, Society,Vol. XIV,No 10, October, 1989, Wills Creek or Chapel Hill, St. Joseph's, SenecaTwp., Monroe Co., OH:
John December, died.March 25, 1895, aged 85 years.
Anna December, died March 27, 1885, aged 85 years.

Anne Deiter

Also known as Anna Peeters.

From Andy Miller:

Anna was born to Peter Dieter and Margarethe Muhlgreiter. According to the Trulben church records, Anna was born on 28 March 1806. She was a few years older than her husband, and on their tombstone, at Chapel Hill, it shows that she was a full ten years older than her husband. Judging from the Trulben Catholic church records she was only seven years older than her husband.
