Bernard G. Archer

In 1930, Bernard Archer and his new bride, Margaret, lived in his mother's house at 802 Elberon Ave. in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio. Bernard worked as a clerk in a grocery store.

Bernard Archer’s obituary appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 26 Nov 1975, accompanied by a photo of Bernard in his fireman’s uniform.
Bernard J. Archer, 67, of 853 Brighton boulevard, a retired
Zanesville fireman, died at 4:50 p.m. Tuesday in Good Samaritan
Medical Center where he had been a patient nine days.
He was born in Summerfield Feb. 17, 1908, and had lived
in Zanesville 64 years. He retired from the Zanesville Fire Depart-
ment in 1961 and was owner of Archer and Sons Painting
Contractors.
He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church.
Surviving are his widow, the former Edna Krause; two daugh-
ters, Mrs. Willard (Linda Dunham of 1427 Indiana street and Miss
Beth Ann Archer of the home; two sons, Bernard (Bud) Archer of
Nelsonville and Robert E. Shinn of 1012 Woodlawn avenue, a
sister, Mrs. Gerald (Florentine) Durant of Arcadia lane, and five
grandchildren.
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to
9 p.m. Friday in Hillis Funeral Home.


Paul William Archer

Paul Archer’s obituary appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 16 Jun 1959:
ZANESVILLE NATIVE DIES IN FLORIDA
Paul W. Archer, 43, a native of Zanesville, died unexpectedly
Monday evening [15 Jun 1959] of a heart attack in Miami, Fla.
Mr. Archer ,the son of the late Adrian and Bridget Heil Archer,
was welfare director and city street commissioner here during
Mayor William Watson’s administration. He also operated a
grocery store for several years on Sharon avenue. Mr. Archer
left Zanesville 14 years ago when he moved to Florida where
he operated a super market.
He was a former member of St. Nicholas Catholic church
and was a graduate of St. Nicholas High School.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Fulton Archer, and two sons,
Larry and Billy of the home; a sister, Mrs. Florentine Durant of
820 Wayne avenue; a brother Bernard of 1133 Putnam avenue
and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Maurice and
Leo, preceded him in death within the past 10 months.
Services will be held in Miami but arrangements are incomplete.


Gerald F. Durant

In 1930, Gerald F. Durant (30) and his wife Florentine (30) owned a home worth $3000 at 692 Wayne Ave. in Zanesville, Muskingum County, Ohio. Living with them was their daughter Shirley A. (4 yrs 10 mos.). Gerald was employed as a "pair heater" in a sheet mill. The family owned a radio set, as did most of their neighbors. The census question "Does this family live on a farm?" was answered "Yes." The Durants were the only family on this page of the census for which that was the case.


Arthur Isadore Schott

On June 5, 1917, 26 year old self employed farmer Arthur Isadore Schott (dob: September 10, 1890; pob: Noble Co., Ohio) of R.R.#2, Marion, Iowa registered for the military draft. According to his draft registration card, he was married and had one child. His physical description is given as medium height and build; blue eyes and brown hair.

In 1920, 28 year old farmer "Arthur Schatt" lived on a rented farm in Manie Twp., Linn County, Iowa with his 24 year old wife Rena and their three year old son Harry.

At the time of the 1930 census, Arthur Schott Sr. (39) and his wife Rena (35) owned a farm in Reseburg, Clark County, Wisconsin. Living with them were their children Harry (13), Howard (9), Arthur Jr. (7), Grace (6) and Francis (3 yrs 9 mos). All of the children attended school except Francis. According to the census, Rena was a native of Kansas. Her father and mother were from Ohio and Illinois, respectively. The children were all born in Wisoncisn except Harry, who was from Iowa. Arthur and his parents were natives of Ohio.

Arthur stayed connected to his roots in Fulda. Arthur (living in Iowa) married Emma Sorg (living in Ohio) in 1952. They resided in Tipton. Emma Sorg was a sister to Lucy Sorg (wife of Oscar Schott). Oscar & Lucy lived in Beverly, Ohio area.

SS# issued in Iowa prior to 1951. Arthur lived in Florida for the last few years of his life.


Rena Violet Carpenter

According to the 1920 census, Rena was born in Nebraska and her father was born in Ohio. The birthplace for her mother is listed as "US." The 1930 census states that Rena was a native of Kansas; her father and mother were from Ohio and Illinois, respectively.

Oscar John Schott

On June 5, 1917, 25 year old self employed farmer Oscar John Schott (dob: April 4, 1892; pob: Caldwell., Ohio) of RFD #2, Marion, Iowa registered for the military draft. According to his draft registration card, he was unmarried. His physical description is given as short, medium build; blue eyes and light hair.

In 1920, Oscar Schott (26) lived in the household of his first cousin, Mary Schoeppner Fox and her husband Albert at 1027 Harrison Ave. SW in Canton, Stark County, Ohio. Oscar worked in a rubber factory.

The following appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on September 13, 1927 Oscar Schott of Fulda, O., has purchased the H. L. Styer farm.

The following appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on Nov 2, 1927 PURCHASED FARMS Oscar J. Scott has sold his farm near Fulda to Wm. B. Schott,
who will take possession the coming week. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar
Schott have purchased a farm of 90 acres near Waterford and
will take possession this week.

Oscar and William B. Schott were second cousins. Oscar and Lucy Schott moved to the Beverly, Ohio area.

Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Schatt and daughter Lillian and son Wilfred, attended the annual Schott reunion on Sunday, July 30, 1933 at the fairgrounds in Marietta, Ohio. See notes of Jacob Schott for a complete list of attendees.


Urban Peter Schott

Urban Peter Schott and his second cousin, Urban George Schott were born on the same day: 20 Aug 1897.

On 24 Au 1918, 21 year old Urban Peter Schott of Route 2, Marion, Iowa filled out a US draft registration card. He stated he was born on 20 Aug 1987 in Caldwell, Ohio. Urban worked for Arthur Schott (his brother) of the same location. His next of kin was listed as Louis Schott of Caldwell, Ohio. Urban was described as being of medium height and build, with gray eyes, brown hair, and no physical disabilities.

At the time of the 1930 census, Urban Schott (33) rented a house for $30 a month in Fon du lac, Fon du lac County, Wisconsin. Living in the household were his wife, Gertrude (34) and children Agnes G. (8), Dorothy B. (5), and Evelyn (3 yrs 7 mos.), Agnes and Dorothy attended school. Urban was a salesman for Star Combin???? (end of word is illegible). The family owned a radio set. Urban was a veteran of World War I.

Urban Schott of Fon du lac, Wisconsin attended the annual Schott reunion on Sunday, July 30, 1933 at the fairgrounds in Marietta, Ohio. See notes of Jacob Schott for a complete list of attendees.

Urban Schott still lived in Fon du lac, Wisconsin in 1938. By 1947, he had moved to Tacoma, Washington.

Edward Sorg was calling on Charley Warner's one day last week.

In 1930, Edward J. Sorg and his wife, Cora (30) owned a farm in Stock Twp., Noble County, Ohio where they lived with their three children, Clarence (8), Marjorie E. (5), and Evelyn (2 yrs 3 mos). Only Clarence attended school. The Sorg family did not own a radio set. Adjacent farms in the census were those of widower Michael Crum and Edward's father, Cain Sorg.


Obituary:
SUMMERFIELD - Edward J. Sorg, 74, a retired farmer of Summerfield Route 1,
died before noon Tuesday Oct 12 [1965] at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus
following an apparent heart attach at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Margery Pitts of
Columbus.
Born in Noble County, Dec. 30, 1890, he was a son of Cain and Katherine Wilt Sorg,
and was a veteran of World War I. His wife, Cora, died in 1961.
Surviving are a son, Clarence of Reynoldsburg; and two daughters, Mrs. Pitts of Colum-
bus and Mrs. Evelyn Kuhn of Caldwell; eight grandchildren; a brother, Francis, of Lancaster;
two sisters, Mrs. Lucy Schott of Waterford and Mrs. Margaret Singer of Malvern. Three
brothers are deceased.
Requiem high mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Catholic Church in Carlisle at 9:30
a.m. Friday with Rev. Fr. Rudolph Wargo officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Note that Urban Schott and his sister Cora Schott Sorg died on the same date (9 Oct 1961).

Obituary:
SUMMERFIELD - Cora M. Sort, 62, wife of Edward Sorg of Summerfield Route 1,
died at noon Monday [9 Oct 1961] in a Cambridge hospital where she had been a patient
seven weeks. Death followed a long illness. Mrs. Sorg was born in Noble County Oct 1,
1899, a daughter of Lewis and Barbara Brahler Schott. She was a lifelong resident of Noble County.
Surviving in addition to her husband are: a son, Clarence Sorg of Columbus; two daughters,
Mrs. Marjorie Pitts of Columbus; and Mrs. Evelyn Kuhn of Caldwell; a brother, Arthur Schott
of Tipton, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Stella Miday of Louisville and Mrs. Bertha Burkhart of
near Caldwell; six grandchildren.
Mrs. Sorg was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church at Carlisle, Altar Society and
Catholic Women’s Club of the church.
Friends may call at Brubach Funeral Home where the body will remain until services at 9:30
a.m. Thursday at St. Michael’s church with the Rev. Fr. Rudolph Wargo officiating. Burial will
be in the church cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today.


Sylvester J. Burkhart

On June 5, 1918, 21 year old Sylvester Joseph Burkhard (dob: March 24, 1897; pob: Malaga, Ohio) of Rt. 3, Woodsfield, Ohio registered for the military draft. His draft registration card list Mary Burkhart of Rt. 3, Woodsfield, Ohio as his nearest relative. She is also listed as his employer. His physical description is given as short, stout, gray eyes and light brown hair.

In 1920, Sylvester Burkhart (22) lived on the family farmin Malaga Twp., Monroe Co., Ohio with four of his siblings: Edward (28), Lawrence (24, head of household), Mary (20), and Clara (14).

In 1930, Sylvester Burkhart (32) and his wife Bertha (28) owned a farm worth $800 in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Living with them were their children, Ray (6), Junior (2 yrs 11 mos), and Velma (1 yr 4 mos). None of the children attended school. No one on that page of the census owned a radio set. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to John Weber and Bertha's parents, Louis and Barbara Schott.

Obituary:
Sylvester Burkhart, 78, of Caldwell Route 4, a retired farmer and father of
a Zanesville woman, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Chillicothe Veterans Hospital
in Chillicothe, where he was a patient a short time. He was a member of St.
Mary’s Catholic Church at Fulda and was a World War I veteran.
Surviving are two sons, Roy of Marietta and Raymond H. of Caldwell Route
4; a daughter, Miss Velma Burkhart of 1301 Ridge Ave., four grandchildren; three
brothers, Lawrence and Fred, both of Barnesville, and Edward of Caldwell; and a
sister, Mrs. Mary Biedenbach of Barnesville. His wife, Bertha, died in 1973.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Brubach Funeral Home in Summerfield
where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. today. A Mass of Christian Burial will
be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Church in Fulda. Burial will be in the
church cemetery.


Bertha Clara Schott

Obituary:
CALDWELL - Bertha C. Burkhart, 71, of Caldwell Route 4, died unexpectedly
at noon Tuesday in her home of an apparent heart attack. She was born Nov. 19,
1901 in Noble County, a daughter of Louis and Barbara Brahler Schott. Mrs.
Burkhart was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church at Fulda.
Surviving are her husband, Sylvester J. Burkhart; a daughter, Velma M. Burkhart
of 1301 Ridge aavenue [Zanesville]; two sons, Roy Burkhart of Marietta and
Raymond Burkhart of the home; and a sister, Mrs. Stella Miday of Louisville.
Four brothers and a sister are deceased.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Mary’s Church at Fulda with
Fr. Walter E. Heinz officiating. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. at the Murphy
Funeral Home here. Friends may call at Brubach Funeral Home in Summerfield 7
to 9 p.m. today, after which the body will be taken to Murphy Funeral Home
here where Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday.


Velma Marie Burkhart

Velma Burkhart never married. According to the online Ohio death certificate index, she was born in Akron.
