John Roehrig

According to Lee Crock, one of the ancestral villages of the Roehrig family was Neuhof, Landkreis Fulda (Fulda county), Germany. No direct connection has been found between John Roehrig and the town of Fulda.

Records conflict on the number of childrren in this family. Delores Snider, in "St. Mary's -- 150 Years -- Fulda OH" lists the three children found in the 1860 census. The 1850 census contains four additional children not found in the 1860 census. It is possible that the households listed in the 1850 and 1860 censuses are two different families.

At the time of the 1850 census, 42 year old farmer John Rorrick livrd in Stock Twp., Monroe County, Ohio with his wife Catherine (39) and five daughters: Catherine (11), Druzilla (8), Mary (6), Barbary (4), and Rachel (2). Birthplace for all of the children is Virginia. Only Catherine attended school. The Roehrig farm was located next to the farm of John Maurice Hohman in the census.

In 1860, 50 year old Hessian-born farmer "John Rorick" lived in Stock Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his three children: Barbara (16), John (9), and Leander (7). The children all attended school. John's wife is presumed to have died prior to 1860.

Catharina Gerst

Catherine Gerst Roehrig is not listed with her husband and children in the 1860 census. It is presumed that she died before that time. The 1880 census entry for her daughter Barbara Roehrig Herbst states that her parents were born in Heese.

Rachel Roehrig

Twelve year old Rachel Roehrig is not listed with the family in the 1860 census and is presumed to have died before that time.

John B. Arnold

At the time of the 1920 census, widower John B. Arnold (30) lived with his widowed mother, Rosalia (73), unmarried sister Maggie V. (34), and children Marie A. (7), Raymond V. (7), and Rose M. (2 yrs 11 mos.). Only Marie attended school.

(19), Raymond B. (16), Rosemary (13), and Clarence (4). Only Rosemary attended school. According to the census, the John and Coletta were 20 and 19 years old, respectively, when they first married. (This suggests that they both had previous spouses.) Everyone in the household was a native of Ohio. John's father and mother were born in Germany and Ohio, respectively, and Coletta's father and mother were natives of Ohio and Pennsylvania. John worked as a tinner for a roofer. Daughter Marie worked as a housekeeper for a private family. Like most of their neighbors, the Arnold family owned a radio set
