John Adam Muth

The marriage of John Muth and Anna Weigel at St. Henry`s Catholic Church in Harrietsville, Ohio is recorded at Noble County, Ohio (Volume 6, page 466).

In April 1888, Franz and Margareth Muth sold 80 acres of their farm to Adam for the price of $1800. (Vol 35, pg 44, Noble County records, Caldwell, Ohio). This 80 acre parcel was sold back to Franz and Margareth Muth in 1894 for $800. (Vol 41, pg 439).. John Adam bought a farm of 106 acres from Joseph and Margareth Kuntz for $1805 in 1895. (Vol 43, pae 79).

In 1900, 40 year old farmer John Adam Muth lived on his mortgaged farm in Elk Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 30 year old wife of 13 years, Anna (30) and their children Francis (11), Rosa (10), Raymond (7), Herman (5), Joseph (3), and Christina (1). Two other children died shortly after birth (John in 1887 and Caroline in 1891).

Casper and Anna Muth had three more children, Benjamin (1902), Clarence (1905) and Alma (1906). Their 17 year old son Francis died in 1905, and Casper's wife Anna died three years later. In 1912, Casper married Rosanna Deichmiller. They lived in the old Franz Muth home on Pawpaw Creek in Noble County, Ohio until 1914. His boys wanted to move to better land, so he sold the farm on Pawpaw creek and bought a good parcel of land at Beverly, Ohio. Here is where he died in 1942. His sons moved away leaving his daughter Alma remaining at home. In October 1969, Alma was still living at what was left of the farm with her husband Leslie Morrow, who was a farmer. In 1970, the Clem family lived in the old home.

Anna M. Weigel

From the 1900 census: Anna Weigel had given birth to eight children, six of whom were still liviing in 1900. The Muth's first child, John, died shortly after birth in 1887. Their fourth child, Caroline, died a few weeks after birth in 1891. Later, their second child Francis would die at age seventeen in 1905.

Anna was born in Ohio to German-born parents.


Herman L. Muth

Herman Muth is not listed in Delores Snider's transcription of parish records.


Joseph Alexander Muth

Joseph A. Muth of Beverly, Ohio enlisted in the U.S. Army at Wooster, Ohio on 4 Sep 1918. His date and place of birth were given as 9 Nov 1896, Caldwell, Ohio. He did not serve overseas. He was honorably discharged on 11 Dec 1918.

Jo-Anna Wright states that that Joseph Muth is buried in Rainbow Cemetery. However Washington County cemetery records (http://www.rootsweb.com/ohwashin/avemaria.html) indicate that he was buried in 1919 in Ave Marie / St. Joseph's cemetery. The record also states that there is a flag on the grave.

His death certificate states that Joseph Muth contracted tetanus (also called lockjaw) at work.

Charles Biedenbach

In 1880, 23 year old unmarried Charles Biedenbach lived with the fmaily of his brother Frank in Summit Twp., Monroe County, Ohio.

In 1900, Charles Biedenbach (43) owned a farm in Summit Twp., Monroe County, Ohio where he lived with his wife of 15 years Mary L. (36) and their seven children: Clemintina (14), Isadore (11), Enoch C. (9), Joseph E. (8), Herman J. (6), Odel D. (1) and Franciska T. (4 months). All of the children attended school exvept Odel and Franciska. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Lewis Seabach and Fred Schell.

The 1910 census shows Charles (53) and Mary E. (46) Biedenbach in Summit Twp. with their children Ignatius (19), Joseph (18), Herman (16), Odello (11), Francisca (10), John (8), and Edwin (2). It is beilieved that "Ignatius" is Enoch from the 1900 census.

In 1920, 62 year old farmer Charles Biedenbach still lived in Summit Twp with his 55 year old wife Mary L., and four of their children: Herman (25), Odilio (21), Frances (19), and Edwin (12).

At the time of the 1930 census, Chas (73) and Mary L. (66) Biedenbach were still living in Summit Twp. with their sons Odillo D. (31) and Edwin L. (22).


Maria Ludwine Muth

Baptism sponsors were Casper and Elizabeth Kress. According to the 1910 census, all 9 of the children that Mary E. Biedenbach had given birth to were still living. There were seven children at home at the time.

Ignatius C. Biedenbach

Ignatius C. Biedenbach enlisted in the Army on 22 Sep 1917 in Akron, Ohio. Comments on his service record are as follows:
Co G 332 Infantry 23 Sept 1917 to 23 Feb 1918; Co G 11 Infantry to 4 Feb 1919. Private St Mihiel; Meuse-Argonne. American Expeditionary Forces 24 Apr 1918 to 4 Feb 1919. Died broncho pneumonia 4 Feb 1919. Notified Charles Biedenbach, father, Kuhn, O.


Herman Joseph Biedenbach

In 1942, 48 year old Herman Biedenbach filled out a US military draft registration card. He gave his residence as Myers Lake Ball Park, Canton, Ohio. His mailing addres was c/o Joseph Biedenbach {his brother], 914 Gilmore Ave NW, Canton. Joseph was also listed as the "person who will always know your address." Herman stated that he was born on April 7th, 1894 in Woodsfield, Ohio. His place of employment was the Ball Park in Canton. On the draft registration, Herman was described as being 5' 8 1/2" tall, 170 lbs., with brown balding hair, blue eyes and a ruddy complexion. He had a mole on his forehead above his left eye.

Herman Biedenbach never married, according to his death certificate.


Odillo Daniel Biedenbach

Odillio Biedenbach never married. He died in Belmont Co., but was living in Lewisville, Monroe Co., OH at the time of his death.


Edwin Leander Biedenbach

Dates and places of birth and death (from Social Security Death Index) have not been proven.


William Biedenbach

In 1900, William Biedenbach (39) owned a farm in Seneca Twp., Monroe County, Ohio where he lived with his wife of 14 years, Mary (35) and their seven children: Clara (11), Anna (9), Garmen (8), Luwina (6), Leo (3), Julius (2), and Lawrence (1 month). Only Clara attended school. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to John Robinson and Adam Weisend.

In 1910, William (49) and Mary (45) Biedenbach lived in Seneca Twp. with eight children: Garman (17), Lovina (16), Leo (13), Julius (12), Lawrence (10), Isabel (8), Katie (6), and Edna (2). All the children attended school except Katie and Edna. Neighboring farms in the census were those of John N. Kuhn and Mary (Burkhart) Weisend.

Mary Magdalene Muth

According to the census, all seven of Mary's children were still living in 1900. By 1910, she had given birth to eleven children, ten of whom were still alive at the time of the census.

In 1930, widow Mary Biedenbach lived with the family of her daughter, Anna Mary Brubach in Canton, Ohio.


Charles Edward Biedenbach

Charles, who would have been 8 years old, is not listed with his family in the 1910 census. It is presumed that he died before that time.


John Noble Diegmiller

The surname is spelled Deichmiller in Dolores Snider's book.

John Diegmiller was the first shoemaker in Fulda. In 1860, 38 year old Hessian-born shoemaker John Diegmiller lived in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his 32 year old wife Louisa and four children: Matilda (5), Catherine (3), John (2), and Mary L. (2 months). The children were all born in Ohio.

John Diegmiller was disbled as a result of the Civil War. The family moved to Fox Settlement (near Ludlow Twp.) in Washington Co., OH in 1869.


William George Smithberger

From the "Fulda" column of The Caldwell Citizens' Press, 1 Feb 1883:
Wm. Smittberger, J., of Harrietsville, spent Sunday here.

From the 1900 census: 50 year old William Smithberger lived on a farm he owned in Elk Twp., Noble County Ohio with his wife Catherine (42) and six children: Clara (21), Jacob (16), Clemence (11), Veronika (7), Genivieve (4), and Ernest (4). Also living in the house was Catherine's mother, Catherine Burkhart (77). All but the youngest children could read and write.

In 1910, William Smithberger (age 60) lived in Noble County, Ohio with his 53 year old wife Catherine and their five youngest children: Clemence P. (21), Veronica T. (16), Ernest H. (14), Genefa C. (14), Alfred V. (8). The three youngest children attended school.

The following note appeared on page 4 of the Zanesville Signal on 8 Jan 1926:
HARRIETTSVILLE -- Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Smithberger and
daughter Jennie and son Alfred spent New Year's day with Mr. and
Mrs. Jacob Smithberger.

The obituary of William G. Smithberger was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 13 Aug 1930:
W. G. SMITHBERGER DIES AT HOME NEAR HARRIETSVILLE, O.
CALDWELL, O., Aug 12 - Relatives here have been notified of the
death of William G. Smithberger, prominent farmer of near Harriets-
ville, which occurred Monday at 1:20 o’clock, of complications die to
his advanced age which was 81 years. Mr. Smithberger was the
son of Squire William Smithberger and Mrs. Theresa Smithberger,
pioneer residents of Noble county.
He was a devoted member of the St. Henry’s Catholic church at
Harrietsville. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Catherine Smithberger,
four sons, Jacob H. Smithberger of Harrietsville, Clement V. and
Alfred P. Smithberger of Lower Salem, Ernest W. Smithberger of
Marietta, and two daughters, Mrs. William Wessel, and Mrs. John
Huffman of Marietta. Surviving brothers and sisters of the deceased
are Anthony and Edward W. Smithberger of near Harrietsville, Isa-
dore Smithberger of Marietta; Sebastian J. Smithberger of James-
town, South Dakota; Mrs. Chares Morris, Caldwell.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning from the
St. Henry’s Catholic church at Harrietsville. The funeral cortege
will leave the home at 9 o’clock. Burial will be made in the church
cemetery.

The informant for William Smithberger's death certificate was C. P. Smithberger (presumably his son, Clemens P.). The death certificate states that Williams parents were William Smithberger and Evie Fox. In actuality Eve Fox was William Smithberger's mother-in-law.


Catherina Barbara Burkhart

Catherine Burkhart was born in Ohio to German-born parents. She was the godmother of her niece Philomena Singer (daughter of Mary Ann Burkhart Singer) in December, 1874. By 1900, 42 year old Catherine Burkhart Smithberger had given birth to eight children, six of whom were still living. The Smithberger's second child, Alexander died in 1883 at age 18 months, and their fourth child, George, died in 1893 at age six.

Records conflict on date of birth. Snider gives 1 Jul 1858. Anderson gives 18 Jul 1857. In the 1860 census, she ws one year old. The 1900 census gives Jul 1857.

Elizabeth Malissa Long

Elizabeth Malissa Long is not listed by Delores Snider as one of the children of Jacob Lang/Long and Elizabeth Smithberger. Ms. Snider lists only one child for that family: Elizabeth Lang (Long) born on 4 Dec 1852 and christened at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Fulda, Noble Co., OH. It is belived that the two may be the same person. Only one Elizabeth Long (6) is listed in the 1860 census.
