Shane Joseph Ruiz, aged 19, was caught in the surf at the Dominican Republic and carried out to sea on 19 March 2008. He had been on holiday with church friends. It was a remote beach with no lifeguard. Although he could be seen beyond the surf line for several hours, a rescue could not be organized in time. The body was been recovered.
