Simon Peter Paulus

In 1910, Peter S. Paulus (34) lived on Oak Lawn Ave. in Woodsfiled with his wife of six years, Nellie F. (32) and sons Bernard G. (5) and Robert E. (3). Everyone in the household was a native of Ohio. Peter's parents were German, and Nellie's father and mother were born in Germany and Ohio, respectively. Nellie had given birth to children, according to the census, both of whom were still living. Peter was a self-employed retail merchant in the grocery business.

By 1920, 43 year old widow Nellie F. Paulus had moved to Akron, Summit County, Ohio, where she owned a home at 224 Grey Ave. Living with her were her sons Bernard (15) and Robert (13). Bernard worked as a clerk in a jewelry store, and Robert attended school. Nellie also had four boarders in the house: widower James Davey (43), and unmarried men Peinsell (18), Ernest Kallova (19) and Marion Street (20). James was a bricklayer and the younger men all worked at a rubber plant.
