Frederick Diehl

Mowrystown, Highland County is in southwestern Ohio, about halfway between Columbus and Cincinnati. According to his death certificate, Frederick Diehl owned a shoe store.

The following note about Fred Diehl's birthday celebration appeared in the Zanesville Signal on 27 Dec 1934:
BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY
Fred Diehl, highly respected resident of Eastern avenue,
Woodsfield, celebrated his 92nd birthday in a quiet manner
on Saturday, Dec 22. His daughter, Mrs. Harry C. Smith,
planned the celebration and open house was observed
during the entire day. About fifty relatives and friends
called to extend congratulations and best wishes.
Mr. Diehl was presented with many lovely gifts, including
flowers, candy, baked things and a number of delicious
birthday cakes. Mrs. Smith served a lunch to guests who
called.
Mr. Diehl is enjoying very good health for his advanced
years and Mrs. Diehl who has been confined to her bed for
some time is somewhat improved. They greatly enjoy
having their friends visit them.

Fred Diehl’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Signal on 9 Dec 1935:
DIEHL SERVICES ARE HELD SUNDAY
Woodsfield, O. Dec. 9 - Fred Diehl, 94, died at his home
on Eastern avenue Friday afternoon after an illness of many
months, during which time he was bedfast and private funeral
services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the late home,
Rev. Henry Fox, pastor of the St. Paul’s Evangelical church
officiated and interment was made in Oak Lawn Mausoleum.
Mr. Diehl was a lifelong citizen of Woodsfield, and for almost
half a century conducted a retail shoe business here. He was a
devout member of St. Paul’s Evangelical church and was out-
standing in his efforts to further its ends and also of the Sunday
school.
Immediate survivors are his widow, who has been very ill for
several months; one daughter, Mrs. Harry Smith, Columbus,
who has been caring for her father for some time; one daughter-
in-law, Mrs. Stella Diehl, Columbus, and three grandchildren,
Diehl Smith, Newark, Mrs. Jay Sharpe, Zanesville, and Melchior
Smith, Columbus.

Wickliffe Mallory's death certificate states that he suffered his first stroke in September of 1910, followed by a second stroke on April 10, 1911.


Rosena Schumacher

Rose Schumacher Mallory’s obituary appeared in the Zanesville Signal on 12 Oct 1933:
MRS. ROSE MALLORY DIES AFTER STROKE
Woodsfield, Oct. 12 - Mrs. Rose Mallory, 77, and widow of the late Atty W. E. Mallory passed away at her home on Eastern avenue at 1 o’clock Wednesday afternoon following a short illness due to a stroke of paralysis which she suffered Monday night.
She is survived by one son, Walter Mallory, Hartford, Conn and three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Sears of the home, Mrs. Gertrude Messner, Rochester, NY and Mrs. Edna Devore of Martins Ferry. A number of relatives also survive.
Mrs. Mallory was a woman of many fine qualities and was loved and respected by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed not only in the home but by the entire community. She had made for herself a legion of friends who are saddened by her death.

Francis Schumacher

Frank Schumacher, aged 75 years, one of Woodsfield's most
highly respected citizens passed away at his home on North Main
Street Tuesday morning. His death followed an extended illness
due to infirmities incident to his advanced years.
He is survived by the following children: Cleveland Schumacher
and Mrs. Fred Ball of Akron; Miss Freeda Schumacher of Columbus,
and Mrs. Edith Poulton, of the home; one sister, Mrs. Fred Diehl of
Eastern Avenue, Woodsfield. Many other relatives also mourn his
departure.
Mr. Schumacher was well and favorably known having spent the
greater part of his life in Monroe County. He came from a prominent
pioneer family and had made for himself a legion of friends by whom
he will be sadly missed. He was a member of the First M.E. Church
and of the Men's Bible Class of the M.E. Sunday School. He was a
regular attendant as long as his health permitted.
Funeral services were held this Thursday afternoon at 2:30 at the
home in charge of Rev. H.R. Chalfant, pastor of the M.E. Church and
interment was made in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Ella Schumacher’s obituary appeared in the Zanesville Signal on 9 Feb 1934:
SCHUMACHER FUNERAL AT LATE RESIDENCE
Woodsfield, O., Feb 9 - Funeral services will be held Saturday
afternoon at the home on North Main street for Mrs. Frank
Schumacher, aged about 71 years, who passed away Thursday
morning at her home after an illness from high blood pressure
and complications, extending over several months.
She is survived by her husband and four children, Mrs. Edith
Poulton, Kent; Mrs. Minnie Ball, Akron; Miss Freda Schumacher,
Columbus, and Cleveland Schumacher, Akron. Several grand-
children and three great grandchildren and many other relatives
also survive.
The funeral services will be in charge of her pastor, Rev. H. R.
Chalfant of the M. W. church of which church she was a devout
member.
