Joseph Theodore Nolte Jr.

On 12 Sep 1918, 32 year old Joseph Theodore Nolte of Proctor #1, Wetzel, West Virginia registered for the US military draft. His draft registration card stated that he was born on June 1, 1886. Joseph worked as a self-employed farmer. His nearest relative was Mrs. Clara Nolte of the same address. Joseph was described as being of medium height and build with brown hair and brown eyes. He had no obvious physical disabilities.

In 1920, 33 year old Joseph Nolte Jr. was a self-employed farmer on the farm of his retired widowed father, Joseph Nolte Sr. (74) in Meade Twp., Marshall County, West Virginia. Living with the two men was Joseph Jr.'s wife, Clara (23). Joseph Sr. was a native of Germany, but his year of immigration was unknown. Joseph Jr. and Clara were both born in West Virginia. There were no children in the household.

Ten years later, Joseph and Clara still lived on a farm in Meade. Joseph's father was no longer in the household, but an 11 year old lodger named Leo Montabone lived with them. Leo, a native of Ohio, attended school.

Henry Grab

In 1930, Henry Grab (29) and his wife of five years, Catherine (27) rented a home for $15 a month at 79 15th St. in Wheeling, WV. Living with them were their daughters, Jackauline (3 yrs 9 mos) and Norma (1 yr 2 mos). Henry worked as a salesman in the baking industry. Henry was a native of Pennsylvania, as were his parents. His wife and daughters were born in West Virginia.
