Sebastian Hohman

Dolores Snider, in "St. Mary's -- 150 Years -- Fulda OH" states that Sebastian Hohman was baptized in St. Mary's Church. However, the church did not exist prior to 1847. Prior to that, Fulda, OH was a mission of Temperanceville and later Miltonsburg, OH.

From the 1900 census: 54 year old farmer Sebastian Hohman lived on a mortgaged farm in Elk Twp., Noble Co. Ohio with his 52 year old wife Margaret and eight children: Mary (27), Joseph (23), John (21), Francis (19), Bertha (16), Rosa (14), Casper (12), and Clara (10). The parents of Sebastain J. and Eva were born in Germany.

After his wife's death, Sebastian Hohman went to live with his son Sebastian C. Hohman. His grandaughter Clara (daughter of John Maurice Hohman) was sent to help out cooking and cleaning in the home. Clara, who was not yet ten years old, recalls that one day her grandfather decided that he wanted jelly, so he picked some elderberries and presented them to Clara to make jelly. "I was a little girl." Clara later said. "What did I know about making jelly?" Clara gave it her best effort, but the result was a gooey disgusting syrup.

According to his death certificate, Sebastian Hohman was born on January 21, 1846 in Noble Co., Ohio to German born Joseph Hohman and an unspecified mother. At the time of his death on August 8, 1928 in Elk Twp., Noble Co., Ohio he was widowed having been married to Margret Hohman. The cause of death is given as "Chronic Intestinal Nephritis" and contributory factor of "Arterial Sclerosis." He was buried in the Harrietsville Cemetary on August 10, 1928.

Delores Snider and the 1900 census give the name Rosa and d.o.b. as Oct 1885. Ms. Snider does not give a death date. The Social Security Death Index indicates the birth date is 21 Oct 1885.
