John Edward Estadt

Records conflict: 1900 census gives date of birth as Jan 1873. Delores Snider and Joann Cummings give 29 May 1870.

From the 1900 census: 27 year old farmer John Estadt lived on a rented farm in Jefferson Twp., Noble County Ohio with his 21 year old wife and their two daughters Clara (2) and Annie (6 months). John could read and write.

In 1910, 37 year old farmer, John E. Estadt lived with his wife of 12 years, Mollie (31) on a farm they owned in Jefferson Twp., Noble co., Ohio. Living with them were their children Clarie (13), Annie (11) and Clyde (3). The two older children attended school. John could neither read nor write. All members of the household were born in Ohio as were John's mother and Mollie's parents. John's father was born in Germany.

At the time of the 1920 census, 47 year old farmer, John Estadt still lived with his wife Molly (41) on a farm they owned in Jefferson Twp. Living with them were their children Clara (22), Annie (20), Clyde (13) and Edmund (5). The two younger children attended school. Clyde also listed his occupation a farm laborer on the home farm. John could neither read nor write. All members of the household were born in Ohio as were John's mother and Mollie's parents. John's father was born in Germany.

By 1930, 58 year old farmer, John Estadt lived with his wife Mollie M. (51) had moved to a farm they owned in Hopewll Twp., Muskingum Co., Ohio. Living with them were their children Clyde (23) and Edmund (15). Edmund attended school. Clyde worked as a farm laborer. Based on census data, John and Mollie had been married for about 31 years. All members of the household could read and write. All members of the household were born in Ohio as were John's mother and Mollie's parents. John's father was born in Germany.


The following article appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on May 24, 1951: PARTY HONORS JOHN ESTADT A weiner roast was held Saturday evening at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. John Estadt of East Fultonham, honoring the 81st birthday of
Mr. Estadt. Those present were their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.
Benjamin Miller of 522 Gray street and their sons and daughters-
in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Estadt and daughter Donna Kay of
White cottage and Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Estadt of Zanesville,
route 1. Their grandson and wife, Mr. and Mrs. James Miller and children
Diana, Junior and Teresa of Hedgewood avenue and granddaughters
and famalies, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Wisecarver and sons, Larry and
Dicky and Mr. and Mrs. Walter Wisecarver and daughter, Linda, all
of Adamsville. Also present were other relatives and friends.


John Estadt was a resident of Muskingum County, Ohio at the time of his death. His obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 1 Oct 1960:

John Edward Estadt, 90, of White Cottage died at 3:30 p.m. Friday
at the Wells Rest Home. He suffered a stroke three weeks ago.
Mr. Estadt was born in Noble County, May 27, 1870, the son of
Florian and Mary Ebbert Estadt. He was a retired farmer and a
member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church.
Surviving are his widow, Mollie; two sons, Clyde Estadt of White
Cottage and Edmond of Zanesville Route 2; a daughter, Mrs. Benja-
min Miller of 522 Gray street; a sister, Mrs. Rosa McAtee of Elba,
Ohio; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
The body was removed to the William Thompson and Son Funeral
Home in White Cottage where friends may call after 7 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday from St.
Nicholas Church.


Maria Amalia Noll

From the 1900 census: Mollie Noll was born in Ohio and stated that both her parents were born there as well. She had given birth to two children, both of whom were still living. Mollie could read and write.

Mollie Noll Estadt was a resident of Muskingum County, Ohio at the time of her death.

Mollie Estadt's obituary appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on September 9, 1965. Mrs. Mollie Estadt, 86, formerly of White cottage, died at
4:15 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 9) at the home of Miss Ila
Mcferren of 517 Gray street with whom she was staying.
She had been a patient at Foster Nursing Home until a
week ago. Mrs. Estadt was born Dec. 1, 1878, in Dexter City, a
daughter of Nicholas and Mary Miller Noll. She resided
in the White Cottage vicinity for 40 years. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Benjamin Miller of 522
Gray street, two sons, Clyde Estadt of White Cottage,
and Edmund Estadt of Zanesville route 2; two brothers
Charles Noll and Alex Noll, both of Caldwell Route 4; a
sister, Mrs. Katie Blake of Columbus; five grandchildren
and 16 great-grandchildren. Her husband, John, and a
daughter, Anna, preceded her in death. Friends may call at William Thompson and Son Funeral
Home from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Friday. Requiem mass will be sung at 10 a.m. Saturday at
St. Nicholas Church. rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday
at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery.


Joseph Henry Noll

In 1900, 18 year old Joseph Noll lived and worked on the family farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Joseph Noll was a resident of Noble County at the time of his death.

At the time of the 1910 census, Joseph H. Noll (29) and his wife Emilda (28) owned a farm in Elk Twp., Noble Co., Ohio. Living in the household were their children, Perry N. (6), Roy L. (5), Freeman A. (3), and Stella C. (1 yr. 5 mos.). Only Perry attended school. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to George Weckbacker and Edward Kilger.

On 12 Sep 1918, 38 year old farmer Joseph Henry Noll of RFD 1, Lower Salem, Washington County, Ohio registered for the U.S. military draft. He gave his date of birth as 22 Jun 1880, and listed his nearest relative as Emilda Noll of the same address. He was described as being of medium height and build with gray eyes and brown hair with no physical disabilities.

In 1920, the Noll family lived on a mortgaged farm in Elk Twp. The household consisted of Joseph H. (39), his wife Matilda (38), and their children Perry N. (16), Roy Linnard (14), Raymond E. (13), Stella Catherine (11), Mary Sophia (8), Harvey Alex (5), Bernetta M. (4 yrs 3 mos.), and Rhinehart Joseph (2 yrs 6 mos). The oldest five children attended school. Neighboring farms were those of Jacob Ullman and Edward Kilger.

The 1930 census shows that the family still lived in Elk Twp. on a farm worth $500. Living in the home were Joseph H. (49) and his wife Milda (48), and children Harvey A. (15), Bernetta M. (14), Reinhard J. (13), Carold F. (8), Clarabelle A. (5), and Mildred C. (4 yrs 2 mos). The oldest four children attended school. The Noll's neighbors were George Erb and Edward Kilger.

Mrs. J. H. Noll and sons Harvey and Rhinehart and daughter Bernetta of Lower Salem attended the annual Schott reunion on Sunday, July 30, 1933 at the fairgrounds in Marietta, Ohio. See notes of Jacob Schott for a complete list of attendees.

On April 27, 1942, 61 year old, self employed, Joseph Henry Noll of Lower Salem, Rt. 1, Elk Twp., Noble Co., Ohio registered for the military draft. According to his draft registration card, he was born on June 22, 1880 in Fulda, Noble Co., Ohio. He lists Milda Noll of Lower Salem, Rt. 1, Ohio as the person who would always know his address. His physical description is given as: height: 5'8"; weight: 170 lbs; eyes: gray; hair: black; complexion light brown.


Joseph Henry Noll's obituary appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on July 28, 1963. Joseph H. Noll, 83, of Harriettsville, brother of Mrs. Mollie
E. Estadt of 324 Florence avenue died at 9:30 p.m. Friday at the
home of his daughter, Mrs. Mildred Hesson of Summerfield
Route 1, after a long illness. He was born June 22, 1880. a son of Nicholas and Mary
Miller Noll and was a retired farmer. He was a member of St.
Henry's catholic Church of Harriettsville. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Stella Schoeppner of
Harriettsville, Mrs. Hesson, Mrs. Mary Schoeppner of Coldwater,
O., Mrs. Bernetta Hartman of Salem, O., Mrs. Clarabel Schenafelt
of Pittsburgh; five sons, Perry of Williamstown, W. Va., Freeman
of Los Angeles, Harvey of Pittsburgh, Rinehart of Salem, O.,
Carroll of Salem, Ore.; 34 grandchildren and 35 great-grand-
children, two sisters, Mrs. Estadt and Mrs. Kathryn Blake of
Columbus, two brothers, Alex and Charles, both of near Cald-
well. His wife, the Former Milda Schott, died Nov. 8, 1950. Friends may call today at the Mallett Funeral Home where
the rosary will be recited at 7:30 o'clock tonight. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at the St. Henry's
Church in Harriettsville with Rev. Joseph Picard in charge. Burial
will be in the church cemetery with the Mallett Funeral Home in
charge.


Emilda S. Schott

From The Caldwell Citizens' Press, 8 Dec 1881:
       Births -- Nov. 16th, to Leonard and Elizabeth Schad, a daughter.

The census states that Emilda none of Emilda's children died prior to 1910.

Emilda Schott Noll's obituary appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on November 9, 1959. STAFFORD, O. -- Mrs. Milda Schott Noll, 78, of Harriettsville, died suddenly of a heart attack in her home early Sunday morning. A daughter of Leonard and Margaret Blake Schott, she was born Nov. 16, 1880, in Noble County. Mrs. Noll was a member of the St. Henry's Catholic Church in Harriettsville and the Catholic Women's Club. Surviving are her husband, Joseph; five daughters, Mrs. Stella Schoeppner of Harrietsville, Mrs. Mary Schoeppner of cold Water, Mrs. Bernetta Mantz of Salem, Mrs. Clarabelle Scherafelt of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mrs. Mildred Hesson of Summerfield Route; five sons, Perry of Newcomerstown, Freeman of Los Angeles, Calif, Harvey of Pittsburgh, Pa., Rinehart of Salem, Carroll of Salem, Ore.; a brother, Felix Schott of Fulda, a sister, Mrs. Fulda (sic); a sister, Mrs. Felix Brahler of Canton; 25 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Services will be conducted in St. Henry's Church at 9:30 a.m. Thursday by Rev. Fr. Clemens Schleuper. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call at the Mallett Funeral Home in Stafford after noon Tuesday and at the family home after noon Wednesday where the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.


John Alexander Noll

In 1900, 17 year old Alex Noll lived on his parents' farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. He attended school for two months in the previous year.

In 1910, Alex J. Noll (27) and his wife Eva (26) owned a farm in Jefferson Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Living with them were their two children, Clarence (3) and Enda (1). Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Margaret Broedel and widow Mary (Weisent) Miller.

On September 12, 1918, 36 year old self employed farmer, John Alexander Noll, of R#2, Dexter City, Noble Co., Ohio registered for the military draft. According to his draft registrtion card he was born on July 29, 1882 and his nearest relative was Eva M. Noll of R#2, Dexter City. His physical description is given as medium hieght and build, with black eyes and black hair,

All members of the household were born in Ohio. John's parents and Eva's mother were born in Fulda, Ohio. Eva's father was born in Germany. Listed on the same census page were John's parents, Nicholas and Marry Noll. Listed immediately after the John Noll family on the census was the Louis and Louise Crock family.

In 1930, 47 year old farmer Alex Noll lived with his wife Eva M. (46) on a farm they owned (value $3000) in Jefferson Twp., Noble Co., Ohio. Living with them were their children, Clarence J. (23), Freda M. (17), Clara M. (14), Loria E. (12), Ernest F. (9) and Pearl A. (5). Clara, Loria and Ernest attended school. Clarence worked as a laborer doing odd jobs. All members of the household were born in Ohio. John's parents and Eva's mother were born in Ohio and Eva's father was born in Germany. The family did not own a radio set. Listed immediately before them on the same census page were John's parents, Nicholas and Marry Noll. Also listed on the census were Fulda natives Louis and Louise Crock and family, George V and Emma C. Saling and family, Henry C. and Gertrude Arnold and Beda and Marie Arnold and family.


The following article appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on July 27, 1960: NOLL FAMILY HOLDS REUNION Mr. and Mrs. Carl Polk were the host and hostess for the reunion of
the Alex Noll family on Sunday, July 24, at their home on Zanesville
Route 1. A basket dinner was enjoyed at noon, with cards, swimming
and games as the diversions of the afternoon. Present were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Noll, Betty, Ruth, Dorothy, Helen,
Louis and Larry of Caldwell; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Dimmerling, Edward,

Obituary:
John Alexander Noll, 90, of Summit Acres Nursing Home in Caldwell,
a retired farmer of the Harrietsville community, died at 1:05 a.m. Friday in
Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born Jul 29, 1882, in Noble County, a
son of Nicholas and Mary Miller Noll. Mr. Noll was a member of St.
Mary's Catholic church at Fulda.
He leaves 113 survivors including two sons, Clarence Noll of Caldwell
and Ernest Noll of 850 Lexington avenue; six daughters, Mrs. Walter (Edna)
Dimmerling of Marietta, Mrs. Veronica Burkhart of Lewisville, Mrs. Sebastian
(Freda) Crock and Mrs. Linus (Clara) Crock, both of Caldwell, Mrs. Carl
(Laura) Polk of 4850 Barkers Run road, and Mrs. Cletus (Pearl) Estadt of
Caldwell; 39 grandchildren; and 65 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs.
Catherine Blake of Columbus. His wife, Eva Swick, died in 1946. Two grand-
children, a great-grandchild, four sisters and two brothers are deceased.
Friends may call after 2 p.m. today at Estadt Funeral Home in Caldwell
where the Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral Mass will be held
at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fulda with Rev. Fr. Walter Heinz
officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Caldwell.


Eva Mary Zwick

MRS. ALEX NOLL IN HOSPITAL
CALDWELL, O. - Mrs. Alex Noll of Caldwell underwent
a major operation in Good Samaritan hospital, Zanesville, Thursday
afternoon. She was removed to the hospital in the William Estadt
ambulance.
Mrs. Noll is the mother of Mrs. Walter Dimmerling and
Mrs. Cletus Estadt of Caldwell.


Eva Noll's obituary appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on November 6, 1946. MRS. EVA NOLL RITES THURSDAY Funeral services will be conducted at 10 o'clock Thursday
morning for Mrs. Eva Noll, 62, wife of Alex Noll of near Dexter
City who died Monday night in good Samaritan hospital. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Edna Dimmerling of
Caldwell, Mrs Louis Crock, Mrs. Sebastian Crock, and Mrs.
Cletus Estadt, all of Caldwll, and Mrs. Laura Polk of Zanesville;
two sons, Clarence of near Harriettsville, and Ernest of the
home. Rev. A. J. Nichols of St. Henry's Catholic church in Harrietts-
ville will conduct the services at the church and burial will be in
Olivet cemetery at Caldwell. The body will be removed Wed-
nesday morning from the Estadt funeral home in Caldwell to
the home of Mrs. Dimmerling.

Charles Kasper Noll

In 1900, 13 year old Charley Noll lived on the family farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. He attended school for five months that year.

Charles Noll’s obituary was published in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 26 Sep 1971
Charles K. Noll, 85, of Caldwell Route 4 in the Fulda community,
retired farmer, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Good Samaritan Medical
Center where he had been a patient for two days.
Mr. Noll was born near Fulda Aug. 17, 1886, a son of Nicholas and
Mary Miller Noll. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church.
Surviving are six daughters, Mrs. Marie Hohman and Mrs. Florence
Schoeppner, both of Zanesville Route 8, Mrs. Eleanor Schaub of Louis-
ville, O., Mrs. Emma Bogard of Canton, Mrs. Ida Spence of Summerfield
Route 1 and Mrs. Angie Caldwell of Caldwell Route 5; three sons,
Lawrence of South Zanesville, John of Alliance and Raymond of Louis-
ville, O.: a sister, Mrs. Catherine Blake of Columbus, a borther, Alex Noll
of Caldwell, 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. His wife,
Anna, died in 1962, and three grandchildren and deceased.
The Brubach funeral home of Summerfield is in charge of arrange-
ments and the body was taken to the Murphy funeral home at Caldwell
where friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Monday.
Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Monday at the Murphy funeral home
and funeral Mass will be sung at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic church
with Rev. Walter Heinz officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.


Anna Margaret Zwick

Obituary:
Mrs. Anna M. Noll, 74, of Fulda died at noon Wednesday [18 Apr 1962] in Good
Samaritan Hospital where she had been a patient a month. Death followed a short
illness. She was the wife of Charles Noll of the home, and mother of three Zanesville
area residents.
Surviving in addition to her husband are six daughters, Mrs. Marie Hohman of Zanes-
ville Route 8, Mrs. Ida Spence of near Summerfield, Mrs. Emma Meola of Canton, Mrs.
Angie Caldwell of Caldwell, Mrs. Eleanor Schaub of Louisville, Mrs. Florence Schoeppner
of Zanesville Route 8, three sons, John Noll of Alliance, Raymond Noll of Canton, and
Lawrence Noll of Eastman street; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Burial services will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fulda at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. Fr. J. J. Donaldson will officiate. Requiem mass will
be sung at 9 a.m. Monday at the church.
The body was taken to Brubach Funeral Home in Summerfield but will be returned to
the family home at Fulda at 4 p.m. today. Friends may call at the family home. Rosary will
be recited at the home at 9 p.m. today and Friday.


Fredrick Leonard Blake

In 1900, sixteen year old Fred Blake lived and worked on the family farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. He attended school for four months in the previous year.

Fred Blake's obituary appeared in The Louisville Herald on 30 Aug 1956:
At the age of 73, Mr. Blake of Dexter City, O., died Aug. 23 following a three
week illness in St. Anthony's Hospital, Columbus. He was a farmer and a member
of St. Mary's Church at Fulda, O. Mrs. Blake died in 1929.
Survivors include fours sons, Raymond of Louisville, Edwin of Tipton, Iowa,
Carlin of Solon, Iowa, and Harry of Columbus, O.; one daughter, Mrs. Therman Cordle
of Columbus; also two brothers and 11 grandchildren.
Services in Fulda were held Saturday in St. Mary's Church and burial was in the
church cemetery.

Another obituary was published in the Zanesville Signal on 24 Aug 1956:
CALDWELL - Funeral services for Frederick L. Blake, 73, of near Fulda, will be
held at 10 o’clock Saturday morning at St. Mary's Catholic church at Fulda with burial
in the church cemetery. Mr. Blake, a farmer, died Thursday [23 Aug 1956] at St.
Anthony’s hospital, Columbus, after an illness of three weeks.


Anna Elizabeth Noll

In 1900, 11 year old Anna Noll lived on the family farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio. She attended school for five months.

Anna Noll Blake's cause of death, according to J. A. Parke MD on her death certificate was "peritonitis. She had it when I first saw her [on Jan 12 1929]." A contributory factor was "said to be abortion following [illeg.]" The word "abortion" typically meant spontaneous abortion, or miscarriage. Whether the miscarriage preceded the peritonitis or was caused by it is unclear.


Florian Valentine Jestädt

In 1860, 24 year old Prussian-born farmer Florence Easten lived in Enoch Twp., Noble Co., Ohio with his 23 year old wife Mary and their two children: Francis (2) and Margaret (3 months). Also living with the family was Florian's younger brother Francis (19).

At the time of the 1870 census, Florin Estet (35) was still living in Enoch Twp. with his wife Mary (33) and children Margaret (10), Henry (5), Sebastian (4), Francis (3) and John (1 month). Only Margaret attended school. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to John Ball and William Craig.

In June 1880, Florian Estadt (45) lived in Enoch Twp. with his wife Mary (42) and children Henry (18), Sebastian (14), Francis (12), John (10), Barbara (8), and Rosa Elizabeth (4). All the children except Elizabeth attended school. Neighboring farms in the census were those of Florian's father-in-law Franz Ebert and sister-in-law widow Barbara Snider (nee Ebert).

In 1900, 65 year old farmer Florian Estadt lived on a mortgaged farm in Enoch Twp. with his 64 year old wife Mary, and unmarried son Sebastian (30). Florian was born in Germany and came to America in 1855 when he was about 19 years old. He was a naturalized citizen. He was able to read, write, and speak English.

In the 1910 census index, the household of Florian Estadt includes his wife, Mary (73), his two sons Sebastian (40) and Frank (38) and five year old granddaughter Edna. It is assumed that this is Edna Hesson, the daughter of the newly re-married Rose Estadt Hesson McAtee.

Mary Ann Ebert

The 1860 census states that Mary Ann was born in Ohio. This conflicts with the 1850, 1870, 1880 and 1900 census which state that she was born in Pennsylvania.

Mary was able to speak English, but she could not read or write. The 1900 census states that Mary Estadt had seven children, all of whom were living in 1900. Church records (Snider) show that Mary had eight children. All are known to have lived to adulthood except her first child, Francis. Francis did not appear after the 1860 census. It is presumed that he died in childhood.

The 1900 census entry for Mary Ebert Estadt states that she had seven children. Church records (Snider) show that she had eight. The other seven children are all accounted for in 1900. Francis Estadt appears in the 1860 census, but is missing from the 1870 census. Mary's first child, Francis Estadt, is presumed to have died in childhood.

Joseph Swick

In 1880, Joseph Swick (26) and his wife Mary Ann (22) lived on a farm in Jefferson Twp., Noble County, Ohio. Joseph and his parents were born in Germany. Mary Ann and her mother were born in Ohio; her father was a native of Germany. No children lived in the household.

From the 1900 census: 44 year old widowed farmer Joseph Swick lived on a farm that he owned in Jefferson Twp., Noble County, Ohio with his two daughters, Mary (16; Jan 1884) and Annie (13; May 1887). Joseph, who was born in Germany, arrived in America in 1872. The girls' mother was born in Ohio. Everyone in the household could read, write, and speak English. Both girls attended school.

Joseph Swick/Zwick born about 1855 has not been found in the 1910, 1920, or 1930 census.


Mary Anna Miller

Records conflict: Snider (citing church records at St. Mary's in Fulda) states that Eva Miller married Joseph Zwick. Researcher Trudi Tipton Joseph states that Eva Miller married Joseph Baker; and that Joseph Zwick was married to Eva's sister, Mary Ann.


John Blake

Records conflict on date and place of birth: Dec 1845 (1900 census) vs. 14 Sep 1845 (Snider). Although the census states that John was born in Pennsylvania, researcher Dawn Ford states that John was born either on the ship crossing the Atlantic or after the family's arrival in Baltimore.

The 1870 census states that 24 year old John Blake could not read or write. John, who was not married, lived and worked on his parents farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County, Ohio.

At the time of the 1880 census, 34 year old farmer John Blake lived in Enoch Twp., Noble Co., Ohio with his wife Mary (30) and children Matilida (8), Edward (7), John (3), and Henry (1). Matilda and Edward attended school. According to the census, John was born in Pennsylvania. Neighboring farms in the census belonged to Alex Weisent and Edward Hupp.

In 1900, 54 year old farmer John Blake lived on a farm that he owned in Enoch Twp.with his 50 year old wife Mary and six of their children: Henry (21), Fredrick (16), Eva (14), Joseph (11), Roman (8), and Bede (6). John Blake was born in Pennsylvania to German-born parents. John spoke English, but could not read or write. The household next to John Blake in the 1900 census was that of Joseph Blake (46) and family (relationship unknown).


Maria Kress

In 1870, Mary Kress lived and worked on her brother Casper's farm in Enoch Twp., Noble County Ohio.

Nine of Mary Kress Blake's eleven children were living in 1900. Mary was born in Ohio to German-born parents. She was able to read and write.

Roman Frank Blake

In 1900, 8 year old Roman Blake lived on the family farm in Enoch Twp., Noible Co., OH. He attended school for eight months that year.

Roman Blake never married. His obituary appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on February 14, 1967.
Roman F. Blake, 75, of Caldwell route 4 died at
8 a.m. Monday (Feb. 13) in Good Samaritan Hospital
where he was a patient three weeks.
He was born June 25, 1891, in Noble County, a son
of John and Mary Krefs (sic - Kress) Blake.
Mr. Blake was a member of St. Mary's catholic
Church at Fulda. He was a veteran of World War I.
A brother, Joseph of Chicago, and several nieces
and nephews survive. Two sisters and seven brothers
are deceased.
Friends may call at Estadt Funeral Home at Caldwell
after 2 p.m. today. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.
Wednesday. Funeral services will be held at the church
at 9:30 a.m. Thursday with Father J. J. Donaldson offici-
ating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.


Perry Nicholas Noll

In 1930, 27 year old high school teacher Perry M. Noll lived with his wife Helen (20) in a rented home (rent $5/mo) in Enoch Township, Noble Co., Ohio. Living with them were their children James (1 yr 11 mos) and Paul (4 mos). Also living with them was Helen's sister, Bernetta Schell (16). Bernetta attended school. Based on census data, Perry and Helen had been married for about 3 years. All members of the household were born in Ohio as were Perry's and Helen's parents. The family did not own a radio.

The following appeared in the Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on July 2, 1935: Mr. and Mrs. Ed Schell and sons, Melvin and Denver, Fulda and Mr. and
Mrs. Leo Schell and sons, Lawrence and Robert, Carlisle, were recent dinner
guests of Mr. and Mrs. Perry Noll.


The following article appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder (newspaper) on 30 Mar 1954:
FORD AGENCY CHANGES HANDS McCONNELSVILLE, O. -- A big business deal has been completed in which the
Twin city Motor Sales Ford agency on Lower Kenebec avenue, which has been
operated and owned by D.S.Lowe for may years, has been sold to Perry N. Noll,
of Coldwater, Ohio who has already taken possession. The business will now be known as Noll Ford Sales. All equipment of the garage
and the Ford agency are included in the deal, but the building is not included in the
sale, but the business will be carried on there until a new building will be built on
four lots which he has purchsed from Louis Moore, realtor, north of the Edlo hotel
on State Route 77, near the city limits. Construction of the new building will begin soon. Mr. Noll has rented the Everett
Barkhurst house on North Eighth St. and with his wife and daughter will move there
in the near future. Mr. Lowe is to remain with Mr. Noll at the business for a year and the Lowes will
keep their home near the garage as well as the garage building.


Obituary:
Perry Noll, 90, of 404 W. Plum St., Coldwater, died Friday May 14, 1993 at Briarwood
Manor Nursing Home in Coldwater.
He was born in Noble County on May 13, 1903, to Joe and Emilda Schott Noll. He was
married to Helen Schehl in Fulda, Ohio on June 28, 1927.
He was superintendent of Coldwater School District from 1936 to 1953. He also taught
algebra and aeronautics in Coldwater. In 1938, he was instrumental in construction of the
new Coldwater High School. He later owned a Ford dealership in Newcomerstown and
McConnelsville for eight years. He was a licensed realtor in Ohio and West Virginia and
also taught algebra in Parkersburg in his later years. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic
Church in Coldwater, the Holy Name Society and the Coldwater K of C.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Paul, of Redlands, Calif.; a daughter, Mrs.
Bob (Phyllis) Harris of Ames, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Martha Noll of Coldwater, four brothers,,
Freeman of Pittsburgh, Harvey of Lower Burrell, Pa., Rinehart of Salem, Ohio, and Carroll of
Corvallis, Ore.; three sisters, Mrs. Elmer (Mary) Schoeppner of Coldwater, Mrs. Elmer
(Bernetta) Hartman of Salem, Ohio, and Clarabelle McKarahan of Pittsburgh, 15 grandchildren
and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, James, in 1991; one brother
and two sisters.
Friends were received from 2-9 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the Hogenkamp
Funeral Home in Coldwater. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m. at the Holy Trinity
Catholic Church.


Helen Philomena Schehl

CALDWELL - Miss Helen Schehl of near Berne and Perry Noll of Fulda
were united in marriage on Tuesday morning, June 28 in the Fulda Catholic
church by Rev. J. B. Oeink. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo
Schehl of Berne.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Noll are highly esteemed young people and will have
the felicitations and best wishes of their many friends. A reception and dance
were given in their honor Tuesday evening at the Schehl home with a large
number present.

Helen P. Noll, 93, West Plum Street, Coldwater, died Feb. 25, 2003, at The
Gardens at Celina. She was born Dec. 14, 1909, in Fulda, to Leo and Mary
Crum Schehl. On June 28, 1927, she married Perry Noll who died May 14,
1993. Surviving are a son, Paul (Bea) of Redlands, Calif.; a daughter, Phyllis (Bob)
Harris, Ames, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Martha Noll, Coldwater; a brother, Ed
Schehl, Coldwell; a sister, Bernetta Leonard, Canton; 15 grandchildren, 23
great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Deceased are a son, James, and four brothers, Clyde, Bill, Lawrence and Bob
Schehl. She was a homemaker and a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and St.
Annís Rosary Altar Sodality, Coldwater. Funeral Mass is 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, the Rev. Thomas Manne-
bach officiating. Burial will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery, Coldwater. Calling
is 2-8 p.m. Friday and 9-10 a.m. Saturday at Hogenkamp Funeral Home,
Coldwater.
