John E. Cozzens

The obituary of John Cozzens appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 26 Nov 1970:
CALDWELL - John Cozzens, 58, of Cumberland, a retired
timber worker, died Tuesday (Nov. 24) in a Cambridge hospital
after an illness.
He was born in Noble County June 29, 1912, a son of Hezekiah
and Pearl Cozzens. His wife, Helen, died last October.
Mr. Cozzens was a veteran of World War II.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Clark of Mansfield,
Mrs. Mildred Dimmerling of Caldwell and Mrs. Shirley Goodwill of
Mansfield; a son, Dwain Cozzens of Mansfield; 14 grandchildren;
a brother, Charles Cozzens of Columbus; and two sisters, Mrs.
Sylvia Stevens of Marietta and Mrs. Gladys Scofeld of Huntington,
W. Va.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at McVay Funeral
Home here where services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday with Rev.
Lenley Addis officiating. Burial will be in Olive Cemetery.


Helen Bettinger

The following appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 4 Sep 1943:
DIVORCE ACTION
Helen Cozzens of 726 Monroe street, against John Cozzens
of Zanesville Rt. 4, extreme cruelty and gross neglect alleged.
According to the petition they were married in St. Mary’s W.Va,
June 21, 1933 and have three children. Thomas A. Joseph
represents the plaintiff.

On 29 Sep 1944, the Zanesville Times Recorder reported a continuance in the matter of the divorce action of Helen Cozzens against John Cozzens. The same paper reported on 24 Jul 1947 that the divorce was granted.

Helen Bettinger Cozzens’ obituary appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 15 Oct 1970:
CALDWELL - Mrs. Helen Bettinger Cozzens, 55, of Cumber-
land, died at 6 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 14) at Cambridge State
Hospital.
She was born Aug. 31, 1915 in Noble County, a son of Alex
and Ida Springer Bettinger.
Surviving are her husband, John Cozzens; a son, Dwain
Cozzens of Mansfield; three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Dimmer-
ling of Caldwell, Mrs. Shirley Goodwill and Mrs. Carolyn Clark,
both of Mansfield; 14 grandchildren; three brothers, Ray
Bettinger of Sarahsville, Gay Bettinger of Lower Salem Route
1 and Walter Bettinger of Caldwell; four sisters, Mrs. Alberta
Mallett of Caldwell Route 6, Mrs. Clara Gildow, of Caldwell
Route 2, Mrs. Beulah Hesson of Macksburg and Mrs. Katie
McCool of Cleveland.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at McVay Funeral
Home in Caldwell with Rev. Lenly Addis officiating. Burial will
be in Olive Cemetery here.
Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Friday at the funeral home.


Barbara Lee Cozzens

The obituary of Barbara Cozzens was published in the Zanesville Signal on 26 Aug 1945:
Funeral services for Barbara Lee Cozzens, one-year-old
daughter of John E. Cozzens, fireman 1-c and Mrs. Cozzens
of near Sonora, will be held at 2 o’clock this afternoon at the
Caldwell Baptist church with Rev. Mr. Doan officiating. Burial
will be in Olive cemetery.
The child died Thursday at Good Samaritan hospital. Her
father is serving in the South Pacific.
She leaves her parents; two sisters, Mildred and Shirley, and
a brother, Dwain of the home; the maternal grandparents, Mr.
and Mrs. Alex Bettinger of hear Caldwell, and the paternal
grandmother, Mrs. James Danford, also of near Caldwell.


Bonnie Jane Cozzens

Two year old Bonnie Jane Cozzens fell into a bucket of scalding water on the morning of July 3, 1951 at her home in rural Caldwell. She died the next evening in St. Francis Hospital in Cambridge.


Joy Charlene Cozzens

The obituary of Joy Cozzens appeared in the Zanesville Times Recorder on 22 Sep 1952:
COZZENS INFANT DIES IN HOSPITAL
CALDWELL, Sept. 21 - Graveside services are to be held in
Olive cemetery here Monday afternoon at 1 o’clock for Joy Char-
lene, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Cozzens of Route 1
who died at 11 a.m. Sunday in Marietta Memorial hospital
shortly after birth.
In addition to the parents, the child is survived by two sisters,
Mrs. Junior Dimmerling of Rt. 4, and Miss Carolyn, and a brother,
Duane, the latter two of the home; the grand parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Alex Bettinger, and Mr. and Mrs. James Danford of
Waterford.
Rev. Roy Wikander will conduct the services which are being
arranged by the McVay funeral home.
