FIRE DESTROYS HAY
Clarence Schell, manager of the local Standard Oil filling station,
lost a ton of hay Sunday in an unusual manner.
Many Noble county farmers took advantage of the good weather
Sunday and hauled in their hay, because of the rainy season the past
week and the necessity of saving the crops. Schell who works through
the week did likewise, and when he was bringing in his last load on
a trailer hitched to a tractor, he noticed as they came up the hill to his
farm home just out of Caldwell, the hay was rubbing the tire, and later
saw smoke coming from the load.
The fire department was called and succeeded in loosing the trailer
from the tractor and saving any of the buildings from becoming ignited.
The load of hay, the trailer, three tires and three tubes were destroyed by
the flames before they were brought under control.
