Rosetta A. Crum

Wedding annoucnement from The Zanesville Times Recorder (pg 9) 13 Jun 1939:
LOCAL COUPLE MARRIED AT BERNE CHURCH
The marriage of Mrs. Rosetta Crum Sullivan and George F. Gressel,
both of this city, took place at St. Michaels Catholic church in Berne
Saturday morning [17 Jun 1939] with pastor Rev. Fr. Donaldson officiating
and acting as celebrant of the nuptial mass which followed. The bride was
in white satin and wore a small hat of gardenias. Her bouquet was of white
roses and lilies of the valley.
Her attendant, Miss Mary Gressel, sister of the bridegroom, was in pink
and carried pink roses. Water Crum, brother of the bride, was best man. A
wedding breakfast followed at the home of the bride’s mother, Mrs. Anna
Crum, East Union, and among the guests were Mrs. Helen M. Gressel and
son Billy and daughter Theresa, Mrs. William Adams and Miss Loretta
Adams, all of this city.
Following a wedding trip Mr. and Mrs. Gressel will make their home in
this city where the former is employed by the Zanesville ??company.


Charles Sullivan

In 1920, Chas. Sullivan (27) owned a mortgaged farm in Center Twp., Noble County, Ohio. (The word Sarahsville was identified at the city on the top of the page, but was crossed out.) Charles was married, but his wife was not included among the members of the household. Living in the home were: Charles' son and daughter, Thelma (4) and Lester (2), step-daughter Barea Ople Sullivan (14) and step-son Friend W. Sullivan (9), and father Robert Hill (68). The actual relationship between the people in this home is unclear.


Raphael M. Crum

The following appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on Nov 12, 1946: Mr. and Mrs. Rayfield Crum, of Louisville, were guests here over the week-end. On their return they were accompanied by their sister-in-law, Mrs. Paul Heppner, of Malta, who will spend the week in Canton with her husband who is employed there.

The following appeared in The Zanesville )OH) Signal newspaper on November 6, 1936:
WEDDING DANCE
Announcement has been made of the approaching marriage of Miss Louella
Heppner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Heppner, Caldwell, to Raphael Crum,
Carlisle, Tuesday, Nov. 10. In honor of their marriage, a wedding dance will be
held that evening in the Cecelian hall at Carlisle. the couple will be united in
marriage Tuesday morning at the St. Philomena catholic church. Rev. Father
Mark Campbelle officiating. Immediately after the ceremony a wedding dinner
will be served at the bride's home.
The bride's sister, Mrs. Walter Warner, who was married two weeks ago
and is now making her home in Zanesville, will be one of the attendants.

Obituary:
Mrs. Louella M. Crum, age 59, of 4243 Broadway St. NE, Louisville
passed away at Aultman Hospital Friday morning [12 Apr 1974] following
an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raphael
Crum, who died Apr. 2, 1974.
Born in Caldwell, O., February 17, 1915, she lived in the Louisville area 38
years. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Patricia) Shepherd of Cuyahoga
Falls; two grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Verena Warner and Mrs. Dorothy
Fowler both of Caldwell, and Mrs. Wilma Fitzhugh of Canton; three brothers,
William Heppner of Caldwell and Wilfred Heppner of Louisville. One brother,
Paul, died in 1968.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday at 10 AM in St. Louis Catholic
Church with burial in the church cemetery. Friends called at the Paquelet Funeral
Home Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

ELIZABETH CRAFT, HERMAN CRUM WED AT FULDA
CALDWELL, O. - Miss Elizabeth Craft, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Craft, five miles east of Caldwell,
will exchange marriage vows with Herman Crum, son of Mrs.
Amelia Crum of Zanesville, before the altars of St. Mary's
Catholic church at Fulda Monday morning at 8:30 o’clock.
Rev. Fr. B. J. Mattes will read the ceremony.
Miss Norma Craft, sister of the bride, will be the
bridesmaid and Bernard Crum, brother of the bride (sic) will
act as best man.
Following the ceremony, a wedding dinner will be
served at the home of the bride’s parents, and a dance in honor
of the bride and groom will be held in St. Mary’s hall in Fulda
Monday evening.
Miss Craft was graduated from Sarahsville high school
in 1937 and has been employed in Zanesville. Mr. Crum attended
the Fulda high school and is employed as a mail carrier in Zanesville,
where they will reside.

Obituary:
Herman L. Crum, age 65, of 3251 Maplegrove Ave., NE, Louisville,
passed away Monday morning in Timken Mercy Medical Center
following an extended illness.
Born in Noble County, Feb. 21, 1917, he had lived in Louisville since
1941 and was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church. He worked for the
Fry brothers Trucking Co. for 12 years as a truck mechanic and was self-
employed the last 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Kraft) of the home; Mrs. Frank
(Shirley) Cosentino of Canton, Mrs. Roger (Marilyn) Stull of Minerva,
and Judith Ann Crum of the home; two sons, Lawrence of Louisville and
Jerald Crum of the home, two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Thompson of Los
Angeles California and Mrs. Wilma Hodge of San Juan Capistrano, Calif.;
three brothers, Delbert Crum of Caldwell, Bernard Crum of Louisville,
and Paul Crum of Massillon; four grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Louis
Church. Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends may call at the
Paquelet Funeral Home Thursday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.


Walter C. Thompson

The following appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH0 newspaper on July 25, 1950:
FINED $40
Walter C. Thompson, of 1064 Maysville avenue, who pleaded innocent to two charges of assault filed agained him by his divorced wife, Mrs. Pauline E. Thompson and Coy Anderson, 932 West Main street, was fined $20 and costs on each charge, and given 15 days in jail on his wife's charge. The jail sentence was suspended.


Walter C. Thompson's obituary appeared in The Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) on January 24, 2004
ZANESVILLE -- Prominent local business man, Walter C. Thompson, in the very early hours of Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, quietly left his earthly abode to meet his heavenly Lord.
He was born on Aug. 19, 1915, in Noble County, to Joseph and Christina Sorg Thompson and began his business career as a young man. Before he moved to Zanesville, he owned and operated a grocery store in Caldwell and ran routes for the Zanesville News. In 1946, after moving here, he founded Thompson Moving & Storage Co., which eventually became the largest moving and storage company in Southeastern Ohio. He operated this business until his retirement in 1978, at which time his son, Ron, continued to operate the business until 1993. At the same time Walter was a rural contract hauler for the U.S. Postal Department, and did this for 58 years.
He was a devout Catholic and a long-time member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. To show his care and concern for the church and its members, he gifted the church with an excellent sound system and also paid for its installation.
He is survived by two sons, Ronald J. (Jan Tanner) Thompson and Donald L. (Karen) Thompson; two daughters, Jo Ann (Pearl) Houser of Chillicothe and Di Ann (Lloyd) Douglas of Gahanna; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and by his long-time companion, Shirley Larimer.
He loved and enjoyed his family, his friends and his dogs, Midnight and Opie. He considered his dogs as "good friends" and mourned Midnight's death. He also enjoyed his membership at the Eagles Lodge reveling in the fellowship there.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Arthur Thompson and Roman Thompson; and two sisters, Effie Willis and Clara Journey.
His funeral arrangements are being handled by Hillis & Hardwick Funeral Home, 935 Forest Ave., where viewing hours will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday with Vigil services at 3:30 p.m.
The Mass of Resurrection shall be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 26, 2004, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church at the head of Main Street with Father Leo Connolly as celebrant.

The following wedding announcement appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper on July 11, 1936: MARRIAGE ANNOUNCEMENT Announcement has been made of the marriage of Walter Thompson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Thompson, south of here and Miss Pauline Crum, daughter of Mrs. Amelia Crum, near Fulda, which took place Saturday, June 27, in St. Alphonsus church, Wheeling, W. Va. Both Mr. and Mrs. Thompson are deservedly popular among their associates and are now receiving the felicitations of their many friends.

Wilhelmina M. Crum

From the Zanesville Signal's "Chit-Chat" column (pg 8) on 8 Jun 1945:
Miss Wilma Crum, a former employee at Good Samaritan
hospital, is spending a few days visiting relatives at Caldwell.
She will return here [Zanesville] Sunday and assume a new
position at the Ohio Bell Telephone company.

Paul Vincent Heppner

The following note appeared in the "Chit-Chat" column of The Zanesville Signal on 23 Feb 1945:
Mrs. Paul Hepner (sic) of Canton is spending several days at the home of her
uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Thomas of Calvert street. Mr. Hepner is
improving from an operation which he underwent at Good Samaritan hospital
Monday. Their children, Jerry and Donna Jean Hepner are spend several days
with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Hepner of Caldwell, and their son,
Eddie is visiting his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Raphael Crum at Canton.

Paul Heppner's obituary makes no reference to a son named Eddie. It is not known if Eddie and Benjamin are the same person, or if Eddie died before Paul.

GRAFTON - Paul V. Heppner, 51, of 1102 Novak Rd., died yesterday [8 Jul
1968] in Elyria Memorial Hospital, after being stricken in a field near his home,
apparently with a heart attack. He was born in Caldwell and had lived in the
Grafton area the past 15 years. Mr. Heppner had been an employee of the Duplex
Foundry Co., Elyria. He was a member of Grafton Assumption Church.
He is survived by his wife, Florence (Stanislawski); two sons, Jerry of Washington
and Benjamin of Stockport, one daughter, Mrs. Donna Jean Woodard of Stockport;
four grandchildren, his mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Heppner of Caldwell; two brothers,
William of Caldwell and Wilford of Louisville; five sisters, Mrs. Wilma Fitzhugh, Mrs.
Louella Crum, and Mrs. Virginia Wells, all of Louisville, and Mrs. Dorothy Fowler
and Mrs. Verena Warner of Caldwell.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Russell D. Fulton Funeral Home.
The Rev. Casmir R. Pilatowski will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home
tonight from 7 to 9 and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in St.
Mary’s Cemetery, Grafton.
