In 1930, Joseph Sailing (34) and his wife Clara (26) owned a farm in Stock Twp., Noble County, Ohio where they lived with their children Eric L. (3 yrs 11 mos) and Alma E. (1 yr 1 mo.). Joseph Saling was employed as an oil and gas operator. Adjacent farms in the census belonged to Henry Snider and B. J. Warner.

His name appeared in The Zanesville Times Recorder on 12 Mar 1930 in a list of disabled veterans who failed to file claims for government relief.

Joseph and his brother Edgar owned the Saling Brothers Mill in Noble County.

Lawrence Henry Crock

Lawrence Crock was a resident of Monroe Co., OH at the time of his death. His obituary appeared in the Times Recorder (Zanesville, OH) newspaper on August 12, 1964. BARNESVILLE -- Lawrence H. Crock, 54, of Barnesville Route
3 near Miltonsburg died Tuesday in Barnesville General Hospital
after an illness of two weeks. A farmer, he was born Dec. 7, 1909, near Harriettsville, a son
of Louis and Louise Sherr Crock. He was a member of St. John's
Catholic Church at Miltonsburg. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Helen Crock; four daughters,
Mrs. Wilma Burkhart of Woodsfield Route 3, Mrs. Betty Doty of
Powhatan, Mrs. Hazel May of Alledonia and Linda Crock of the
home; a son, Robert Crock of Massillon; two sisters, Mrs. Grace
Hill and Mrs. Pearl Schott, both of canton; two brothers, Paul
Crock of Waterford and Gilbert Crock of Caldwell; and 15 grand-
children. Requiem high mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. (DST)
Friday at St. John's Catholic Church in Miltonsburg. Burial will
be in the church cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. at
the home where the body will be taken from Gardner Funeral
Home that afternoon.

BARNESVILLE - Helen Elizabeth Burkhart, 94, of Barnesville,
formerly of Woodsfield, died Sunday (Nov. 21, 2004) at Barnesville
Hospital, Barnesville. She was born July 18, 1910, in Fulda, daughter of the late Frank
and Elizabeth Blake Crum. Mrs. Burkhart was a homemaker and a
member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Catholic
Women’s Club, Miltonsburg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first
husband, Lawrence Crock; her second husband, Francis J. Burkhart;
a daughter, Betty Doty; four brothers, Carl, Edgar, Alfred and Bernard
Crum; a sister, Irene Knoll; and a grandson, Randy Doty. She leaves three daughters, Wilma Burkhart of Woodsfield, Hazel
May of Beallsville and Linda Swallie of Barnesville; a son, Robert
Crock of Massillon; four sisters, Cora Lindeman of North Canton,
Alberta Meister, Marie Crock and Viola Crum, all of Caldwell; 21
grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grand-
children. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. today at Watters
Funeral Home, 37501 State Route 78 west, Woodsfield, and from
10 a.m. until time of funeral liturgy at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St.
John the Baptist Catholic Church, Miltonsburg, with the Rev. Fr.
David Gaydosik and the Rev. Fr. Virgil Reischman officiating. Burial will follow in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Miltonsburg. Vigil services will be at 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.

WOODSFIELD - Francis J. Burkhart, 90, of 33473 Walter Ridge Road died Thursday
(March 14, 2002) at Barnesville Hospital in Barnesville.
He was born Dec. 28, 1911, in Calais, Ohio, to Clemence J. and Rebecca Stephens
Burkhart. He was a retired truck driver. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic
Church at Miltonsburg, Ohio. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a member
of Barnesville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2792 at Barnesville.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Crum Crock Burkhart, whom he married July 31, 1975;
three stepdaughters, Hazel May of Beallsville, Linda Swallie of Barnesville and Wilma Burkhart
of Woodsfield; one stepson, Robert Crock of Massillon; four sisters, Lilly Mercer of Barnesville,
Edna Tepley of East Lake, Ohio, Audrey Carpenter of Zanesville and Luzelda Stephens of St.
Clairsville; 20 stepgrandchildren; several stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandsons;
and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepdaughter, Betty Doty; one sister, Virginia
Kimble; and two brothers, Everett Burkhart and Joseph Burkhart.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Catholic
Church in Miltonsburg with Father David Gaydosik as celebrant. Burial is in St. John the Baptist
Catholic Cemetery with full military graveside services conducted by the Belmont Veterans
Council of the V.F.W.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Watters Funeral Home in Woodsfield.
Vigil services are at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Catholic church with the Ref. Fr. Finan officiating.

CARL J. CRUM
Following a three-week illness, Mr. Crum, 51, of 5822 Sunland st NE,
Louisville passed away on Sunday [15 Sep 1968]. He was a World War II
veteran, a self-employed insurance agent, and a member of St. Louis Catholic
Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary E.; four daughters, Janice Crum of Detroit,
Mich, Diana, Rita, and Theresa of the home; two sons, James of Akron and Gary
of the home; six sisters and one brother. Two brothers preceded him in death.
A Requiem High Mass was held Wednesday morning at St. Louis Church and
burial was in the church cemetery. Paquelet Funeral Home was in charge of the
arrangements.

CALDWELL - Carl Crum, 52, of Louisville near Canton, a former Noble
county resident, died Sunday afternoon (Sept. 15) in Akron City Hospital
following a short illness. He was born Oct. 7, 1915, in Noble County, a son of
the late Frank and Elizabeth Crum.
He is survived by his widow, the former Mary Burkhart; two sons, Gary
and James; four daughters, Diane, Rita, and Theresa, all of the home, and Janice
of Detroit, Mich.; six sisters, Mrs. Helen Crock of Woodsfield, Mrs. Irene Null
(sic) of Coldwater, Mrs. Cora Lindeman and Mrs. Alberta Meister, both of Canton,
Mrs. Marie Crock and Miss Viola Crum both of Caldwell; a brother, Bernard Crum
of Caldwell Route 4. Two brothers are deceased.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Paquelpets (sic) Funeral Home in
Louisville. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Louis Catholic Church
in Louisville.

CALDWELL - Engagement and approaching marriage of
Miss Mary Burkhart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Burkhart
of Burkhart Station, and Carl Crum, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Crum, Fulda, has been announced.
They will be married on Saturday morning, May 4 [1940]
in St. Joseph’s Catholic church at Burkhart. First banns were pub-
lished last Sunday in the St. Joseph church and Holy Rosary church,
Dayton.
A wedding dinner is being planned at the Burkhart home
following the ceremony and in the evening a dance will be given for
the couple in the Community hall at Fulda. Burns orchestra, of
Senecaville, will furnish music.

Obituary:

Mary E. Crum, age 90 of Knoxville, TN, passed away to be with the Lord,
Tuesday, February 19, 2008 following a brave battle with cancer. Mary was
born July 29, 1917 in Burkhart, Ohio to the late Nicholas and Mary Ann
(Haren) Burkhart. A former Louisville resident, Mary moved to Knoxville,
TN eleven years ago. Mary owed her longevity to living a simple life and
her faith in God. Among her many memories of Louisville she always
appreciated the Julliard Senior Center bus which often helped her, a widow,
to the grocery store.

Mary is survived by her children, Janice Spencer, Diana Mahady, James Crum,
Rita Spencer and Theresa Edwards; ten grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl Crum and son, Gary
Crum.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:00 a.m. in St.
Louis Catholic Church with Msgr. Ken Miller officiating. Interment will
follow in the parish cemetery. There will be no public calling hours. In
lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary's memory and
sent to 215 S. Mill Street, Louisville, Ohio 44641 c/o the Julliard Senior
Center. Arrangements are at the direction of the Paquelet-Falk Funeral
Home of Louisville.


Cora Mary Crum

On November 3, 1946 a wedding announcement appeared in The Zanesville (OH) Signal newspaper. Miss Cora Crum, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Crum of
Caldwell and William Lindeman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake
Lindeman of Canton were married Saturday morning, Oct.
12 at St. Mary's church in fulda. Rev. B. J. Mattes heard the
vows.

Cora Lindeman, age 91, of North Canton passed away
Friday October 22, 2010 in St. Luke's Lutheran Home sur-
rounded by her loving family. Born in Fulda, Ohio on
December 5, 1918 to the late Frank and Elizabeth (Blake)
Crum. She worked at Schaffer-Messerly Drug Store and
WT Grant company for several years before retirement.
She enjoyed fishing in Canada, bowling, knitting, playing
cards, and checkers. She was the undefeated checker
champion in the family. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Edgar,
Albert, Carl, and Bernard Crum and three sisters, Helen
Crock, Irene Noll, and Viola Crum. She is survived by her husband William E. Lindeman
of sixty four years, three daughters Joanne (Scott) Smart,
Beverly (Cliff) Hartzell, Shirley (Richard) Rogers; six grand-
children Jonathan (Meredith) South, Julie (Jeff) Wells,
Michael (Susan) South, Bob (Jamie) Smart, Amy Rogers,
Richard Rogers; and nine great grandchildren Justin, Alec,
Ali, Andrew, Chrtistopher, Paige, Robby, Tommy, and Joey.
She was named 'Big Mama' by her great grandchildren and
loved all of them with all of her heart. She is also survived by
two sisters, Marie Canel and Alberta Meister. The family would like to express their appreciation for the
care she recieved over the last five years from the Laurel
Valley Staff and especially Brenda, Remy, Barb, and Jana. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10a.m.
Wednesday in St. Pauls' Catholic Church, North Canton, Rev.
Fr. Christopher Henyk, celebrant. Burial will be in Sunset
Hills Memory Gardens. Calling hours will be Tuesday from

CALDWELL -- Emma F. Crum, 83, of Caldwell, died
Tuesday morning, March 8, 2005, at Summit Acres Nursing
Home, Caldwell.
She was born Dec. 13, 1912, in Monroe County, a
daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth Burkhart Schwallie.
She was a homemaker and member of St. Stephens Catholic
Church.
She leaves a daughter, Shirley (John) Vahala of Cald-
well; a son, Dale Crum of Caldwell; two grandsons, Anthony
Crum of Caldwell and Timothy Crum of Senecaville; a brother,
Anthony Schwallie of Canton; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death
by her husband, Bernard R. Crum, who died Sept. 22, 2000,
whom she married Oct. 2, 1948; an infant son, Joseph Crum;
a sister, Mildred Crum; six brothers, Edmund, Lawrence,
George, Raymond, Clarence and infant brother, Clemence
Schwallie.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Thursday, March 10, a the McVay-Perkins Funeral Home,
Caldwell, with Christian Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral
Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, March
11, 2005, at St. Stephens Catholic Church with Father Dale
Tornes officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery.
