Edgar William Saling

Edgar William ''Bill'' Saling, age 85, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Friday, October 17, 2008, at Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell. He was born June 15, 1923, near Fulda, Noble County, Ohio, son of the late Felix and Clara Fogle Saling. He was a WWII Army veteran, having served in Okinawa, Japan, and he was formerly employed as a carpenter for R.C. Moore Lumber in Caldwell, and retired from Ruppel Construction in Caldwell. He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell, and he enjoyed deer hunting with his family, gardening, playing euchre, and watching baseball, especially the Cleveland Indians. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Rose Crum Saling, whom he married October 1, 1946, and who died February 24, 2005; one sister, Mary Evelyn Arnold; and four brothers, Bernard, Clem, Herman, and Gerald Saling. Surviving are his children, Robert (Sally) Saling, Rick (Carol) Saling, Judith (Roger) Thomas, and Linda (Jerry) Archer, all of Caldwell; one brother, Elmer Saling of Fulda; 4 sisters-in-law, Marge Saling, Rita Saling, Lucille Archer, and Joan Saling, all of Caldwell; nine grandchildren, Dayton (Michelle) Saling, Brenda (Doug) Witter, Jill Saling, Brad (Brenda) Estadt, Jennifer Carter, Tony (Niki) Archer, Brian (Carrie) Estadt, Adam Archer, and Amanda (Travis) Hlad; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Saturday, October 18, 2008, from 6-8PM and Sunday, October 19th from 4-9PM at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, 416 East Street, Caldwell, where a Christian Scripture service will be observed at 8:30PM. Funeral Litugy with Mass will be held Monday, October 20th at 10AM at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell with Rev. Fr. Wayne Morris as celebrant. A veterans graveside will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Caldwell conducted by the Noble County Veteran Services Organization.

CALDWELL -- Mary Rose Saling, 75, of Caldwell, died
Thursday evening, Feb. 24, 2005, at her residence.
Surviving are her husband, Edgar W. "Bill" Saling, whom
she married Oct. 1, 1946; two sons, Robert and Rick Saling
of Caldwell; two daughters, Judith Thomas and Linda Archer
of Caldwell; three sisters, Marjorie Saling, Louella Macenko
and Lucille "Boots" Archer of Caldwell; nine grandchildren;
11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Feb. 26,
at McVay-Perkins Funeral Home, Caldwell and 2 to 4 and 6
to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, with Christian scripture service at
7:30 p.m.
Funeral mass with liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Mon-
day, Feb. 28, 2005, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Caldwell,
with the Rev. Father Dale Tornes as celebrant. Burial will follow
in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Caldwell. The family requests mem-
orials be made to Hospice of Guernsey.

Mary Rose Saling, age 75, of Caldwell, Ohio, died Thursday,
Feb. 24, 2005, at her residence. She was born June 1, 1929,
in Caldwell, daughter of the late Roman and Edna Sorg Crum.
She was a retired employee of Caldwell Food Center, where
she was the frozen foods manager, and she was a member
of the St. Stephen Catholic Church, Caldwell, and its Catholic
Women's Club. Surviving are her husband, Edgar W. ''Bill'' Saling, whom
she married October 1, 1946; two sons, Robert (Sally) Saling
and Rick (Carol) Saling, both of Caldwell; two daughters, Mrs.
Roger (Judith) Thomas and Mrs. Jerry (Linda) Archer, both of
Caldwell; three sisters, Marjorie Saling, Louella Macenko, and
Lucille ''Boots'' Archer, all of Caldwell; nine grandchildren,

Louella I. Macenko, age 77, of Caldwell, passed away Friday (May 2, 2008) at the Summit Acres Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Caldwell. She was born January 10, 1931 in Noble County, OH a daughter to the late Roman and Edna Sorg Crum. Louella was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Caldwell, where she participated in the Catholic Women's Club. She was a loving homemaker for her family and enjoyed spending her time with them. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and sharing in their school activities. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a Sister Mary Rose Saling and Granddaughter Jane Arnold. Surviving are three daughters Diane (Luke) Arnold of Marietta, OH, Elaine Martin of Ossian, IN and Georgene (Jim) Mizik of Caldwell; one son Dan (Arlene) Macenko of Lower Salem; five grandchildren Angie (John) Sahlbom of Kettering, OH, Mike Arnold and Fiancee Amy Hill of Marietta, Jeremy Mizik of Caldwell, Alicia Mizik and Fiance Mike Foreman all of Caldwell and Marc (Kim) Macenko of Durham, NC; three great grandchildren Josh and Maggie Sahlbom and Matthew Macenko; two sisters Marge Saling and Lucille "Boots" Archer both of Caldwell. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and friends. Friends will be received Sunday (May 4, 2008) from 2 to 8 PM at the Chandler Funeral Home, 609 West Street, Caldwell, Ohio 43724 with a Vigil Service held at 7:30 pm. A Funeral Liturgy, with Mass, will be held at 10:00 AM Monday at St. Stephen's Catholic Church in Caldwell, with Rev. Father Wayne Morris Officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Caldwell.


Carlos Lee Archer

FORMER CALDWELL MAN INJURED IN COLLISION
Carlos L. Archer, 21, formerly of Caldwell, was
injured seriously, and a companion, Clyde R. Cranbe, 24,
of North Fairfield, O., was killed instantly in a truck acci-
dent Friday near Syracuse, N. Y. A third occupant of the
truck, driven by Cranbe, was badly hurt. He was John J.
McMahon, 23, of Boston.
Archer was taken to a Syracuse hospital, with
both legs fractured. He had been employed with a
Syracuse trucking firm for some time.
The accident happened when the big trailer
truck in which Archer and his companion were riding
collided with a small pick-up truck, the driver of which
was uninjured.

CALDWELL -- Carlos Archer was removed to his
home on Cumberland street Tuesday from Mt. Carmel
hospital, Columbus, where he has been receiving treat-
ment.

In the Southeaster Ohio Briefs column, the Zanesville Signal reported on 20 Jan 1954 (page 14):
CALDWELL -- Carlos Archer was removed from his
home near East Union on Sunday to Mt. Carmel hospital,
Columbus. Archer suffered serious injuries three years ago
in a tractor=trailer accident and has spent much time in Mt.
Carmel hospital for treatments. The trip was made in the
Murphy ambulance.

Carlos Archer was a resident of Caldwell, Noble County, Ohio at the time of his death.


Lucille A. Crum

HAS SURGERY ON EVE OF WEDDING
CALDWELL, O. - Miss Lucille Crum underwent
an emergency operation on the eve of her wedding date.
The corsages had been ordered and had arrived
and all plans completed for the marriage of Miss Crum of
the Olive community and Carlos Archer of Caldwell, on
Sunday at the St. Philomena Rectory here, but instead of
the wedding march on Sunday, Miss Crum was recuperating
in Good Samaritan hospital, Zanesville from an emergency
operation on Saturday night. She had been removed to the
hospital late Saturday evening.
Miss Crum is the daughter of Mrs. Edna Crum and
the wedding will be held at a later date.


Ralph O. Archer

In 1930, farmer Ralph O. Archer (31) and his wife Margaret B. (30) lived in Marion Twp., Noble County, Ohio with their children Ilene N. (8), Lolla F. (7), Myrtle L. (5), Carlos L. (2 yrs 9 mos), and John W. (1 yr).

Obituary:
CAMBRIDGE - Mrs. Margaret M. Archer, 77, of
Belle Valley, died at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday at Guernsey
Memorial Hospital. She had been in failing health for
several years.
She was born Nov. 10 1899 in Noble County
and was a member of the Belle Valley Methodist Church.
Her husband, Ralph Archer, died Oct. 18.
Surviving are three sons, Carlos Archer of Sarahs-
ville Rt. 1, and John and Marvin Archer, both of Kansas City,
Kan.; three daughters, Mrs. Eileen Davis of Stockport, Mrs.
Lucille Bates of Sarahsville Rt. 1 and Miss Nancy Archer of
Belle Valley; two sisters, Mrs. Louella McNerlin of Newcom-
erstown and Mrs. Hanna Meltor of Byesville; 24 grandchildren
and 26 great-grandchildren.
